Welcome to the fourth week of the Namek Saga on Dragonball Z Uncut! These unedited versions of the series are now being shown weekdays. This show is TV-PG unlike the cut version which was TV-Y7. Even though many of you have seen DBZ many times, this threads is meant to give everyone a fresh look at the series as it was intended to be shown. Tuesday through Thursday have been put under spoiler tags due to them spoiling the outcome of the previous episode.
Monday: Gohan and Krillin...The Hunted
Dodoria finishes off the last Namekian fighter and retrieves the fifth Dragon Ball. Meanwhile, Frieza's goons threaten a helpless Namekian child named Dende. Krillin and Gohan rescue him, with Dodoria in pursuit. On his space pod, Goku trains at an increased gravity level.
Tuesday: The Prince Fights Back
Vegeta catches Dodoria in his search for Gohan and Krillin, and attacks. In an attempt to save his life, Dodoria reveals that Frieza was responsible for the destructino of the Saiyan home planet (also called Vegeta). Vegeta destroys Dodoria in return, and begins his own quest for the Dragon Balls. Meanwhile, Gohan and Krillin reunite with Bulma and learn that Goku will soon arrive on Namek.
Wednesday: Unexpected Problem
Goku runs into trouble when his space pod begins to drift towards a star. Goku has to think fast in order to avoid getting bumped up. Back on Namek, Vegeta beats Frieza to the sixth Dragon Ball and hides it in a lake.
Thursday: Not airing.
Lets kick it up a notch with excitement for Dragonball Z!

Poor Cargo.
Glad to finally see how he got killed, rather than Dodoria saying, "Your brother might have gotten away but you won't!"
How did the old dub show the Elder die? I know they didn't show Dodoria snap his neck, but I forgot how they edited it.
Pretty good music in this episode, especially during the chase scene in the sky, It filled the intense moments of the ep with a feeling of dread.
Funny thing, Goku has been in EVERY episode of DBZ so far since the beginning. Even if he only gets 30 seconds of screentime, TOEI made sure that Goku is in every single episode, up to this point anyway. Obviously later on in the series Goku isn't in every ep, but right now he was.

Yeah, then later Krillen and Gohan say "We'll take you back to your family." or some crap like that to Dende, implying that he's still alive. The Saban version didn't even send the elder to the next dimension, and instead edited it to make it seem like he survived the attack.
By the way, was I the only one confused by the fight with Dodoria? Weren't there only three fighter Nameks? Yet it seemed like Dodoria killed four. One he shoved his hand through, one he elbowed, one he shot with his mouth beam, and one he clobbered into a mountain.

Is anyone else confused by that scene where Freeza blinks and destroys the mountain? In the dub, they make it seem as if Freeza is showing Zarbon how powerful he is, which is rediculous. Freeza doesn't need to remind Zarbon of that.
In the Japanese version, in what is perhaps a "personal" moment with Freeza most people don't see, he says the mountain is blocking his view, and destroys it simply so he can see the scenery behind it.

In my opinion, it is a subtle way of Freeza showing off his power to Zarbon, without actually saying anything. Of course, the Saban dub dumbed it down. But that's my opinion, you can interpret this how you want.

Nuh uh. Home For Infinite Losers has that title.
Cargo's death being shown finally gives us the understanding how evil and ruthless Freeza and his minions really are! Unlike in the old Saban version where Freeza fired a "warning shot".
I also thought that mountain scene was weird.
Which leaves us with this question: if Freeza had enough power to destroy an entire mountain in the blink of an eye, how come he didn't use that power during his fight with Goku or Vegeta?

I laughed inside. I actually thought the orginal dub was funnier because Frieza refers to Dodoria as "Mr. Dodoria." Also, in the original dub (the Canadian one), Gohan refers to Dodoria as a "Big, pink piece of putty," or something like this.

Ahh, Gohan rescues Dende.
I would like to think that the two became close friends (perhaps Gohan's best, save for Kuririn; Piccolo is more of a father-figure). Gohan saved Dende's life, and in return, he becomes the demi-Saiya-jin's personal healer. Not an exclusive one, but...
Dende has healed Gohan in every canonical Saga since his 1st appearance, more times than the other characters

I wasn't able to watch DBZ last week, but I see Frieza has his same granny voice, only it sounds slightly different.
Dodoria was pretty cruel to the nameks in this eps with how he brutally killed them (especially with how he killed Cargo). I don't recall Toei showing how they killed Dende's brother back when it was airing on Toonami. Glad that Gohan saved Dende in the nick of time.

Nappa could destroy mountains without firing energy. Though, he had to move his fingers.
Thats the thing, he had to work harder and it was a powerful attack, frieza just did it by looking at it and blinking his eyes.

Ever notice how many villains in DBZ are short lived from their first appearance?
Kui is in 2 episodes and he dies, Dodoria was in like 3 or 4 episodes before he dies. Besides the "main" villains of each saga, the henchmen tend to not last very long.
Lots of good stuff in this episode, Krillin/Gohan/Dende fly toward the cave, we get a Bulma bathtub scene, a humourous Goku eating scene, Vegeta destroys the last scouter and explains how much stronger he has gotten after his defeat on Earth, and of course Dodoria explains how Planet Vegeta was destroyed before Vegeta kills him.
This episode makes me want to watch the Bardock special again. Good thing I have that special on DVD! Wheeee.

This episode was pretty good actually. What I like about the filler story is it wasn't stretched out over the whole episode.
The first two acts were Krillin/Gohan hiding from Vegeta and finding out from Bulma that Goku was on his way, and the final act dealt with Vegeta coming upon a Namek village.
Goku's story was pretty short, which is why it was fun to watch and didn't ruin the episode. This is how filler should be done, not entire episode filler like some other episodes had.
Vegeta saying, "Bang" was my favorite line in all the redub so far, I don't know why, but it was awesome. Chris Sabat really impressed me in this episode as Vegeta, he sounds really different than even his Cell or Buu saga voice.

It won't be. The idea behind the redub was to finally release the first two seasons uncut, make FUNImation lots of money, and to have the voices consistent throughout all of DBZ.

Mark my words. If this release is successful then FUNimation will re-dub season 3. If that's successful then they'll do season 4 and so on. This is their cash cow and their going to milk it til they day their liscense expires. Not that there's anything wrong with that really. It could give us a chance to see these episodes uncut on CN for the first time.
Besides, this is the first time that DBZ has had a 5.1 dub released. They could promote the next seasons in a similar way thay did this one as having the voices we know and love (a few voices have since been replaced from season 3 and 4 as well like nappa and raditz), an updated script that omits bad contradictory dialogue like the Red Ribbon Army flashback with Gero at ther head in season 4, a new 5.1 dub, and including all episode previews for every episode perhaps including the Japanese audio and angle for them for the first time though I do think that was just Toei's fault as they stupidly gave FUNimation previews with no sound whatsoever (this is why dragon ball has no episode previews).

Eh, I can see a small (very small) chance of Season 3 being redubbed...but Season 4? That would just be ridiculous, and a complete waste of time and money that could be spent dubbing other shows. FUNimation's cash cow may be Dragonball, but there's no way they're going to redub the entire series again just to make a little extra money.
People already bought those seasons on DVD, they have the dub and the Japanese version on the same disc. These people aren't going to buy a redub of Season 4 that will probably be exactly the same as their original dub. Where's the incentive?
As for Season 3 I wouldn't count on it, but there's a 10% chance I suppose since it's directly continued from Season 2.

As for Season 3 I wouldn't count on it, but there's a 10% chance I suppose since it's directly continued from Season 2.
Maybe if FUNi releases season 4 in a thin-pack boxset...
