I'm finally trying to use these spoiler tags, but since it's my first time I might not get it right, so in addition to what's in the thread title, here's a warning that I might touch on spoilers. Also, it runs on a bit long, so bear with me.

Now.

I've recently finished reading the summaries on Inuyasha World, and I realize that the manga has gone on from there, but I haven't read summaries of that yet. I had some questions that couldn't wait for me to read manga summaries. This is for readers of the manga and those who consider themselves experts on Rumiko Takahashi's writings.

First, at what point does the manga pick up from the end of the anime?

The final battle against Naraku. Everyone is there - the Inu group, Koga and his wolves, Sesshy & his entourage, Kikyo, everyone else from the series who has been of any help to the good guys or who had anything against Naraku. Kagome finds herself in close quarters with Kikyo, matching her sacred arrow for sacred arrow. There's demonic carnage on an epic scale.

At one point Naraku almost kilss Sesshomaru, when Tenseiga pulses, and Sesshy vanishes like when Inu discovered the wind scar. He finds himself carried far away, to the village of the demon slayers.

Close to the graves, Tenseiga starts going crazy, moving Sesshy to use its full power to resurrect the villagers. Or he might be where Miroku & Sango buried her father and the other slayers, and he resurrects them. They almost attack him, but Kirara and / or Shippou, who were caught up in Tenseiga's pulse, explain things and lead them to the battle.

At the battle, of course Naraku ultimately loses; and Inu, Miroku, and Sango all have their moments of personal revenge. Ditto Kikyo, I guess; as she and Kagome deliver the final blows with sacred arrows, purifying the whole Shikon jewel.

After the battle, on Rin's intercession, Sesshy uses the Tenseiga to save Kohaku's life. Now finally fully alive he is, however, very remorseful over what he's done under Naraku's influence. While he's thankful that his father and the others have been revived, he makes it clear that he can't go back to the village with them; he must go wherever the road will take him and do whatever good he can do until he has atoned for what he has done. And Kanna - now without her sister - goes with him.

Maybe Midoriko makes an appearance and tells Kikyo that it is time to return to the dead. Somehow, Kikyo is made emotionally able to accept her fate and to bid farewell to her beloved without seeking to take him to Hell with her.

Midoriko has also brought someone from the afterlife: Inu's & Sesshy's father - whose name might be Inutaisho but I think that started in a fanfic - and his wife, Inu's mother. He has a bone to pick with his elder son over the Unmother incident. He forces Sesshy to challenge Inu to one last fight, and then to take whatever punishment Inu dishes out on him, until Inu's mother calls a halt to it. Inutaisho - or whatever his name is - then forces a peace on his sons, binding them to stand by each other for as long as they shall live.

Their job done, the parents leave with Midoriko. Wrapping up other long-runing threads, Sesshy leaves for his Western Lordship, with Rin, Jaken & Ah-Un in tow. Rin will be with him forever, reincarnations and everything. Inu will check in with them later.

Also, Sango introduces Miroku to her father. A bit overwhelmed, Miroku nevertheless reaffirms his pledge to marry Sango. He will live in the slayers village, and the two of them will have 10-20 children. They will also be a dynamite team when it comes to dealing with whatever demons or other difficulties arise.

This just leaves Inu & Kagome. Midoriko makes it clear that now that the Shikon jewel is complete, Kagome no longer has a place in the past. Her continuing to be there will mess things up, not only in her time, but with her incarnation in this time (Rin, perhaps?). She must return to her time and never come back. Tearful good-byes are exchanged with Shippou and her other friends, and then InuYasha escorts her back through the well and to her room, where she goes to sleep. When she awakens, all of this will have seemed a dream to her. Her friends and family will continue to talk about that rude boyfriend of hers from time to time, but she'll have no idea what they mean.
But before the jewel vanished, a pure wish was made on it: that somehow, Kagome and InuYasha would find each other again.

So other than furnishing fodder for several fanfics (if only I could write in that style!), just how far off am I?

Well, looks like I still don't have the hang of spoiler tags. Quick, how do they go again?

Spoiler tags are " [ spoiler ] " at the beginning and " [ /spoiler ] " at the end.

ALSO, there is NO space between the words "spoiler" and "/spoiler" and the brackets, aka the " [ ] ". When you write the word and its bracket as one word, then the effect kicks in after you post.

Rumor has it Rumiko is ending the series at 500 chapters. I have no proof that this is the case, since it was an off-hand comment, but that's what I've heard.

the only thing I've heard about that is that she said she plans to make it at least 500 chapters, which she said when Chapter 400 came out.

So other than furnishing fodder for several fanfics (if only I could write in that style!), just how far off am I?Very. The only thing you even got even remotely right was Midoriko, and only that she appears again and is involved with Kikyou.
The anime ended at chapter 356, in volume 36 of the manga. This Wednesday, chapter 424 of the manga will be released. If you want up-to-date manga summaries, you can read them at IY Companion (http://furinkan.com/iycompanion/manga/index.html).

Your also right in that your projected ending could be a meta-fanfic providing fodder for other fanworks. But as a projection of the manga's post-anime course you aren't even close, as a previous poster noted. You need to be following the manga since the anime ended. You can go to the Adult Swim boards where there is an ongoing thread in the Action folder with IY manga info, chapter summaries and discussions. (^_*)

So seeing that I'm already on the Adult Swim boards, how do I get there?

The anime "ended", but in more of a "that's enough episodes for now" way than a "let's finish up the series" way. Without spoiling anything, let's just say that the anime ending didn't resolve anything.

Or, if you don't feel like reading through backlogs of a couple hundred chapters to get yourself current, you can just look at this (http://www.inu-papa.com/inuyashagoya/fanart/mspaint-iysumm4.gif) and get all the important stuff in 20 seconds... provided you can even make heads or tails of it. XD

The anime's ending was crap. It left you off in the middle of the series without ever giving any sense of closure. Maybe they should pull a Hellsing and finish it in OVA format, this way there are no fillers to worry about.

My theory has always been that the creators of the anime got tired of continually having to come up with filler episodes, and decided to give the show a rest while waiting for Rumiko to finally finish the manga. Given the popularity of "Inuyasha," odds are that they'll wrap things up in a second series, or maybe in movies or OAVs.

As far as the eventual ending, I always thought the logical ending would be for Inuyasha to chose Kikyo (either going directly with her to the grave as was her original plan, or perhaps Kikyo being truly revived by the Tenseiga and she and Inuyasha choosing to live out their days in the Warring States era. Heartbroken Kagome returns to the modern era for good, only to run into Inuyasha's reincarnation.... (If you think about it, Kagome isn't being all that reasonable in remaining firmly committed to her own era, but still expecting Inuyasha to remain committed to her and yet not follow her home and make a nuisance of himself in the modern era--what does she expect him to do, anyway? Right now, through no doing of his own, Inuyasha finds himself stuck in an era in which neither Kikyo or Kagome truly belongs.)

Then again, I've kinda wished that Takahashi would drop a third incarnation of Kikyo/Kagome down the well, just to spice things up. Plus, the fact she somehow has the memories of both Kikyo and Kagome, plus some irritating quirks and eccentricities, is enough to drive both girls up a wall....

Judging by the fourth movie DVD, I have a feeling that the animated series may be over for good. Maybe I'm just reading too much into it. The epilogue that was added to the DVD release ended with text stating "The End", which none of the previous movies did. Also, one of the extras on the DVD was a clip show where Inuyasha and Kagome narrated a summary of the manga beyond where the TV series, basically implying "go read the comics from now on, because that's all you're going to get".

they all kill themselves in the end, once they realize they spent 500 episodes walking around in circles and getting beat up numerous times and accomplished absolutely nothing. Either that or Kagome finally grows a brain and brings back a semi-automatic rifle from the future and shots Naraku in the head. The biggest spoiler - you just wasted like a month of your life.

I think they should wrap it up in one theatrical film.
