View Full Version : Xbox 360 -- no old saves, rumored date

IGN is reporting a Black Friday release date for the Xbox 360 (http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/647/647185p1.html). That seems like a profoundly bad idea, assuming IGN's article is accurate. Even if I'd pre-ordered the console (which I'm not), I still wouldn't bother fighting those crowds to get the 360 on day one as much as I want one.
Word is that in the new OXM, it's confirmed that it's not possible to carry over saved games from the Xbox to the Xbox 360. I'd read before that things like downloadable content couldn't be carried over, but I don't remember seeing the same about saved games explicitly. This is kind of a drag.

This is kind of a drag.
It's starting to sound like it's more worthwhile to keep your old XBOX than rely on the new one to play your stuff. Think of it as a cartridge-to-CD transition and not simply what it is (a DVD-to-DVD transition).
At this point you won't get much for your XBOX anyway, so it's going to be worth it just to keep it.

I know. I just have way too much stuff hooked up to my TV as it is, so I would've liked to have just three video game consoles hooked up instead of 4. :) I can still relegate the old Xbox to another TV in another room, but... I mean, it's not that big a deal, but it's still a mild disappointment.

You get at least 100 smackers if you trade in an XBox with 3 games at EB.
But still, I may want to keep my XBox after all and the price of the 360 is making me think twice

My initial thought was "wow, really?"
Then I remembered the cost of 360 and what new games are going to retail for and $100 won't go very far at all. It'll help, sure. But not enough to warrant getting rid of it.

EB's payments for used games are ridiculous. Half a year ago, me and my brother went in and traded Metroid Prime, Jak 2, Animal Crossing, F-Zero GX, and Zelda: Four Swords Adventures. We got about $25 total.

You got ripped off. You know they sold at least one of those for $25. So they profitted from your loss about five times over.
I would go in there and hurt people.

:(
Bang goes my Halo 2 save. Oh well, i wernt going to get a xbox 360 till H3 comes out anyway.

I would go in there and hurt people. A couple of them were sold for more while the others were sold for less than $20. Never trade in games like Metroid Prime after they have been out for awhile because chances are the value has dropped drastically, I believe we give $2 for it at Gamestop and sell it for $9.99.

Hahahaha, what does IGN know. Ask any retailer and they will tell you Microsoft is shipping the games on the 7th and the system on the 14th. That's when they'll launch, regardless of whatever street date Microsoft claims, thanks to Walmart, Kay Bee, and other stores that just don't care. Then EB will just start giving systems to preorder owners because they're the largest chain in the country and noone can touch them, then on Black Friday people will be lucky to get any systems at all.
As for the saves, the Xbox 360 is fully capable of supporting them. Microsoft is restricting that functionality so that modders do not have a backdoor into the system through Splinter Cell and MechAssault.
Also, I don't know what you mean by this comment:
Then I remembered the cost of 360 and what new games are going to retail for
What I heard was Microsoft decided against the 10 dollar hike of game prices, and that you would only see $59.99 on specific Microsoft published titles at most.

Wouldn't those stores get fined if they sell items before the date Microsoft sets?

Wouldn't those stores get fined if they sell items before the date Microsoft sets?If anyone should be fined it shouldn't be the ones who are breaking the date. The ones who deserve it the most are the managers that works at a major retailer who buy every console themselves, tell the pre orders to go home, and sell it for double or tripple in the back room to people that didn't pre order.

Well doesn't Game Stop own EB now?

Well doesn't Game Stop own EB now? Yes, they do. Gamestop bought out EB eariler this year and the merger will be finalized somtime next year, but as of now they opperate as seperate stores.
So technically Gamestop is the biggest chain of video game stores in the nation.
As for the street date no one has anything offical. What you see from Wal-Mart, EB, Gamestop, etc. is pure speculation right now. From what I have been told by MS reps and our district manager the system will likely launch around Nov. 14th-22nd and alot of games will be on shelves the week before and most will likely not have a street date. I expect an offical statement regarding the release date for the 360 in the next few weeks.

Well doesn't Game Stop own EB now?Yea,I don't like Gamestop either,do a search and you'll see why.:D
If you guys wanna sell your games, sell them on Half.com or eBay. Game stores tend to rip you off.
But if you can't, my best bet is Gamecrazy. From my trade-in experiences, they tend to be a lot more generous that GS or EB. Plus, if you get a member card, you'll get 20% more in store credit, and some really awesome deals on games.

True, very true,I trade in alot of my games at Slackers though because the nearest Gamecrazy is like 10 or so miles away.

All I know is that I'm going to make off like a bandit when I get a second hand X-box over Christmas and convert it to a Media Centre.
