Hmmm...two lines have been changed between the old dub and the redub, which were originally CORRECT.

The first line from the Saban dub, was that Gohan comments on how Namek looks like the area on Earth in which he and Piccolo trained. It's been changed to Gohan and Krillin simply talking about how Namek looks a little like Earth.

The other line from the Saban dub, is when Vegeta emerges from his pod, and activates his Scouter to search for Frieza's energy signal. He finds Frieza, and judging by the two other large readings with Frieza, he concludes that Zarbon and Dodoria are with him. In the redub, Vegeta doesn't even mention Zarbon or Dodoria.

Heh, I noticed that, too.
I also noticed that when Bulma went into detail about how long it would take to find the Dragon Balls, her numbers were exactly right! These insignificant lines are probably the only lines FUNimation will actually translate. Hyuk hyuk.

*snort* :p

(I wonder if these were correct in the Saban dub...)

Ah, dubbed Frieza. Strangely enough, Frieza sounded more like the Frieza from the old dub in this episode rather than FUNI's Frieza.

Either way, this is the tone of Frieza I'm used to, so I've grown up with this tone of voice.

Nice to see those pink aliens get knocked out in one hit, at least TOEI had the sense to make them weaker than Gohan/Krillin. It would make no sense if those aliens were as strong as Radditz even.

By the way, a plot point important to these "fake Namek" episodes went untranslated in both the old dub and the redub.

When Bulma crashed the ship on the fake Namek and they all got knocked out, the reason the two aliens didn't just take the ship right then and there is because there was that awful "storm" or whatever in the sky, and it would've prevented a successful departure. (This same "storm" or phenomenon or whatever is also what sort of caused Bulma to crash.)

Of course in hind sight, the aliens never would've figured out how to pilot the ship anyway. So in the end, it doesn't really matter.

Um... Yeah, that was explained in tonight's episode. One of the aliens simply said, "We had planned to leave with your ship that night, but conditions weren't right. So we bit our time until they were."

Doesn't exactly explain the whirlpool storm in space or the signs that tell them when it'd be okay to take off. Not till later in the ep.

Something I've never understood about Dragonball Z is why are there so many human-looking aliens? I mean, yeah, Saiyans look kind of similar to humans, but they have tails and all have spiky black hair. But, some of Freeza's servants look exactly like humans. Like Recoom, for instance. I assume Recoom is an alien, but he doesn't look like an alien at all. He looks human. So, why are there so many aliens that look human?

CyberCubed

The same could be said for Star Trek, Star Wars, or any other sci-fi show.

It's much easier to draw human looking aliens rather than monster looking guys with 8 legs coming out of their torso.

Kui's name is pronounced differently in the redub than in the old Saban version, which one is more accurate to the original?

Kui's death was a bit too fast for my taste, but I suppose it doesn't matter much.

Once again, why does Frieza sound much more like the old Saban Frieza rather than FUNI's Frieza? I just brought out one of my VHS tapes of the old dub and the two Frieza's sound nearly identical. FUNI's Freiza used to talk much deeper, was this done intentional to make it match the beginning of Season 3?

I miss Zarbon's accent from the old dub, although this one is acceptable I suppose.

Vegeta: "See You In Hell Kui!"
THAT was the best line all season. Especially since the Saban line there was, "See you.... if I cross your NEW dimension!!"

The scripts and the acting seem to be getting better by the episode. The script for the past two or three episodes has been dead on for the most part, and the acting has improved as well, especially amongst Kuririn and Bulma. Sonny Strait in particular has stopped overreacting, and is now saying his lines naturally, and it's coming through quite well.

Sadly, I can't say the same for Zarbon and Dodoria. Chris Sabat takes the role of Zarbon again (after playing him in the Burdock special), and is apparently trying to take the role in a new direction, and he sounds horrible doing it. He sounds too much like an unraspy, pompous Vegeta, and it hurts my ears. Maybe it's just me, because I'm used to discovering his roles, and I'm used to his voices. Maybe the average fan won't notice. But I can't stand the stereotypical "rich boy" voice Sabat is giving Zarbon. I guess I can't expect him to sound like Paul Dobson, but c'mon...please. And as for Dodoria, I have no idea who's voicing him now, but whoever is is trying too hard to sound like a character voice, and he can't hold it.

And so, DBZ Uncut rolls along. I can see the scripts, the acting, and the music getting better episode by episode. We'll be riding high, loving how above par dubbed DBZ has become, and then BAM!!!!!

....we hit season 3.

Perhaps FUNI will redub the rest of the Freeza saga. They should, but it would be a bad idea if they copied their original dialogue exactly word for word. Does anybody still want to have Frieza's homosexual quote's such as "We could have been so good together" or "Whatever turns you on"? It's like they were making him gay as a joke.

If we're talking about FUNI's infamous Frieza lines:

"Having these balls..makes me want to caress them."

"Whatever turns you on, big boy."

"Vegeta, you and I could have been so good together."

"Ride 'em cowboy."

"I'll just have to make note of that. It might come in handy some day. Hahaha."

Two more line changes from the Saban dub that upset me in yesterday's episode:

In the Saban dub, Freeza tells Zarbon and Dodoria to not worry about Vegeta's power level, because if the two of them fight him together, they'll overpower him. FUNi removed this line in the redub.

Also in the Saban dub, after Kewie tricks Vegeta into thinking Freeza is behind him, he screams, "SAYONARA!!" as he tries to blast Vegeta into oblivion. I liked that line, but FUNi changed it to "IDIOT!!" in the redub.

Hey, it's Oolong and Puar! I almost totally forgot about them!

Hey, it's Bulma's mother! How old is she anyway, she looks young...? I love her voice in the dub, it's hilarious.

The scene with Roshi and Goku talking about Namek, Frieza, and Vegeta right in front of the Doctor and Nurse was pretty funny as well.

Chi Chi has a pretty rough marraige. Goku runs off to another planet as soon as he's healed and doesn't even say goodbye to her! Chi Chi has every right to be annoyed by Goku's constant disappearing acts.

Anyone ever wonder why Roshi never acts perverted when Chi Chi is around? He's always making the moves on Bulma and random girls here and there, but he's never done anything like that to Chi Chi.

It's either out of respect to Goku, or the fact that Roshi is scared out of his mind of Chi Chi.

Ah, I've never seen those episodes uncut, so now I see I was missing quite a bit.

I wonder if CN would bother to buy Seasons 3-6 uncut from FUNI. They're already dubbed uncut on the DVDs, but CN has only the cut tapes. The episode "Gohan Attacks" was never aired on CN due to it being too violent. That's probably the only episode FUNI skipped themselves.

Do you think Nappa could have beaten Kui, or Dodoria, or Zarbon?Kui, Dodoria, and Zarbon were all stronger than Vegeta was on Earth, and Vegeta on Earth was over 4x more powerful than Nappa, so I'd say no.

Hell, Krillin and Gohan don't get stronger than Dodoria and Zarbon (well, except maybe when Gohan gets angry) until the end of the saga.

This episode demonstrates one of the few times Goku uses his brains instead of brawn. It was pretty clever of him to tell Dr. Briefs to search for and repair his ship at the time his son, Kuririn, and Buruma went off in space, so it can be ready for him once he recovers.

BTW, did they keep his reaction to space? Something like "It got dark all of sudden!"

The episode "Gohan Attacks" was never aired on CN due to it being too violent. That's probably the only episode FUNI skipped themselves.Actually "Gohan Attacks" aired. "Piccolo the Super Namek" did not. It's kind of confusing, since "Piccolo The Super Namek" I believe was the uncut version of "Gohan Attacks" or something like that, but the episode title "Gohan Attacks" was used while "Piccolo the Super Namek" was not.

Kui, Dodoria, and Zarbon were all stronger than Vegeta was on Earth, and Vegeta on Earth was over 4x more powerful than Nappa, so I'd say no.Actually I would say Nappa at his Maxiumum was around 6,00 Vegeata was 3 times stronger since he was 18,000. That meant he was even with Kui at his max, but would of gotten his ass handed to him when fighting Dodoria or Zarbon at the time.

Hell, Krillin and Gohan don't get stronger than Dodoria and Zarbon (well, except maybe when Gohan gets angry) until the end of the saga. From what I read...

The Guru powerup only makes them around 15,000 or something so even at the end of the Saga they aren't stronger then Dodoria or Zarbon. When Gohan gets healed at the beginning of the "Captain Ginyu" Arc I believe he's stronger then that though. He defintley when he gets re-healed in the middle of the Freeza fight.

Not much was edited in this episode.

Next week will be a different story. :D

What is that supposed to mean? Voice actors are what bring cartoons to life!Go to a voice actor panel or autograph session at an anime convention.

Not really...in real life training in 2 times earth's gravity would probably kill you...No, it wouldn't. Well, not right away it wouldn't. It would be extremely hard to move, but it wouldn't kill you right away.

At 2x yet. If you upped it slightly, it would be the same as working out with a weight belt.

Ah, who am I kidding? I sweat like a pig after an hour of Taekwondo.

Very enjoyable episode, as it pretty much sets the stage for Freeza's scheming with a sort of "Day in the life of killing Nameks". And it also convinetely sets up Dodoria as a threat for the next few eps.

Uh, to be techincal

Few does not equal 2.

As for the whole gravity thing, I think if you were really at handling different times of pressures it wouldn't be a problem to work in 2 times gravity. But I can't be totally sure on that until someone invents an actual gravity machine and we have tests of how a person does in it or something.

Thinking back to the Ocean cast, and what the Namekian village elder sounded like, I now realize it was Don Brown who originally voiced him.

Did Vegeta use his "I'd rather have chopped Kui!" line? That was actually pretty funny considering what creature Kui is! :D

No. But one of Freeza's henchmen said "Aww, hell...".

Aren't you watching anymore?

What is Kui supposed to be anyway? Some sort of amphibian or something?

Looks like we're only getting three episodes of DBZ next week. :crying:

Why would that be, Mr. Ravage?

Why would that be, Mr. Ravage? The Thursday DBZ is kicked off temporarily for the Zatch Bell clip show special.

Why would that be, Mr. Ravage?

Anyway, remember the part when, (highlight to read) Vegeta used his power against that Freiza crony, and killed him without a scratch on him afterwords? That was sweet. In my opininon, at least.

Oh yeah, that's right. You mean the thing where they showed the whole season in an hour? Yeah.

More accurately, the THIRD OF FOUR RERUNS of the Zatch recap special.

I wish they didn't pick a DBZ timeslot for a recap special of Zatch Bell that has already aired twice.

I finally got see these episodes the other day, they were kinda of slow and nothing really happened, I forgot how quick the battles are in this saga. I think the best part of this week was the fight between the nameks and Frieza, other than that it was just average week of DBZ.

Let me correct that statement for you. More accurately, the THIRD OF FIVE RERUNS of the Zatch recap special.

Friday night's Zatch/ Duck Dodgers slot is also devoted to the special, and then Miguzi Saturday has it after this showing.
