Of course there are. Did anyone think this wasn't the case? I'm not sure what your point is.

Well considering the Mario-verse includes Donkey Kong, Wario, Yoshi, Luigi, Peach, Daisy, Bowser, Waluigi, Diddy Kong, Toad, etc....
You have to look at Mario like a sprawling web or tree. Each central game gives birth to a bunch of spinoffs. The good thing about Nintendo is that a lot of those spinoffs are actually GOOD.
I want more Mario core games just like everyone else. But I think the "spinoff crisis" is just another fabrication of a crowd looking for excuses to jump the Nintendo ship. If you're tired of the franchise and the company, just switch systems or loyalties already and quit whining.

Yeah I don't quite get it either. Can't the same be said for Sonic? I honestly don't know.
In any case, I've enjoyed most, if not all of those spin offs, so I'm not bothered.
You forgot Mario's Missing (SNES), by the way. I remember when that came out; I was still so young I couldn't yet read and yet when my brother and sister rented it, I was still able to progress a few steps with all the Question / Answers you had to go through.

Super Mario RPG is Mario and crew set in an RPG, it's a spin-off.
Mario vs Donkey Kong is a spinoff because it again features Mario and co. in a different setting other than a conventional platformer
Super Mario RPG is Mario and crew set in an RPG, it's a spin-off.
And most of that game was a platformer, your still runnin and jumping on platforms ,right ? so it dose count, I should know, I beat that entire game.

Mario's first game wasn't even a coventional Platformer, it was Donkey Kong, so that counts also.

Mario's first game wasn't even a coventional Platformer, it was Donkey Kong, so that counts also .Mario wasn't officialy mario, he was known as Jumpman
Out of notoriety later was Jumpman changed to Mario in Donkey Kong
During the SNES era was when Donkey Kong got back into the fold and was offcialy part of the Marioverse when SMK was made
Mario wasn't officialy mario, he was known as Jumpman
Its him ,he didn't have the name, but it was him and it is always considered his first game. Even Nintendo themsleves said that its Mario's first game.

Or Diaclone Convoy later becoming Optimus Prime
It was more or less the prototype

I'd actually call Yoshi's Island more of a spin-off game...yeah it was also labeled Super Mario World II, but it's gameplay mechanics and graphics style are nothing like the classic Mario platformers (just like Wario Land is also Super Mario Land III).
I think the only real spin-offs that anyone has a problem with is the Mario Party series, maybe the Gamecube Mario Kart, and how the baseball and upcoming soccer titles are one sport too many. Otherwise thats a surprisingly solid lineup of non-platforming titles.
And Mario Teaches Typing owns all other spin-offs.

it was also the same in the old DK cartoon as well...

Well, you've successfully demonstrated that it's a versatile franchise with tons of quality games spanning many genres.
Or were you attempting to go the "lol nintedno sux and this is whyy" route?

A franchise is usually better for a couple of decades under its belt. :)
(Of course, there are exceptions.)

(Of course, there are exceptions.)Well yeah Sonic ofcourse hasn't aged well at all...Heros being the latest incarnation is more or less a blunder, and the latest re-issue package was medicore
However I would more or less compare Mario Sunshine to Sonic Adventure 2, everything was more or less there, it's just that the driving spirit of the game wasn't.
I think the only other franchises that have kept going and staying around good quality are RPGs ones...

Mario Sunshine didn't really do anything new (besides the water-pack, which was interesting, but didn't add much). I think that's the main reason so many years of R&D are being put into the next 3-D Mario platformer; they want to really make it something special.
But it's pretty much the same way as Superman's first introduction portraying him as a villan

It was more or less the prototypeIt wasn't a protoype,he was who he was and is now, a hero. He just didn't have the same but it was his first game, it is always considred his first game .But if you don't believe that was his first game then you have to admit Mario Bros. was.
By the, way did you know that mario was really a viallin in the DK games?
Only in Donkey Kong 2

I think any franchise is allowed one or two "follow-up" games where small improvements are made to the gameplay but the overall feel remains the same...heck Mega Man, Tomb Raider, and Resident Evil all built their franchises on this foundation.
And Sonic Heroes fell flat about half the time, but it was definitely trying to keep things in the spirit of the originals...whereas Mario Baseball and Mario Party have just strayed into foreign territory.

I have played Mario Baseball, and I can honestly say that it is a fantastic game.
