View Full Version : Are Breath of Fire 3 and 4 worth getting?

Out of curiosity, I already have 1 and 2 and I'm wondering if the other two games in the series are worthwhile.

Is there one that's better than the other? Or is one harder to find? Which one should I take preference in finding first?

Like I said in the remake thread: Breath of Fire III is my favorite of the entire series. The dragon gene system works perfect with Ryu's character. Also, there are several masters you can learn under to get certain skills and bonuses to level ups. No two Ryu's could be the same, theoretically, depending on how you level them up and with what masters. Breath of Fire III should be easy / cheap to find. IV on the other hand is still a good game and is mostly the same battle system as III, but the dragon gene system is gone and the master system has been nerfed. Go for Breath of Fire III.

...Or both, like me did.

If you liked the first 2 games, 3 and 4 are more of the same.

3 is the best one. 4 on the other hand is bad due to the fact that you're punished for using the dragons.

4 on the other hand is bad due to the fact that you're punished for using the dragons. Huh? I don't get it. I haven't played 4 in a while so tell me what that is the case and what happens if I use the dragons?

They are both good, but like everyone said III is the best in the series and is a must have for any RPG fan. IV is good, but a step down from III.

The dragons are the weakest in this version and the game is so easy you don't even have to bother leveling them up. Yet I'm told by others you got HP and AP taken off if you use them for too long in 4.

Breath Of Fire 3 looks kind of interesting but not as interesting as the Lunar Series (Especially "Silver Star Story Complete"). I never played either but I read about them. I may become a Lunar fan if I get the game, though.

any game that reaches that level I essentialy give up on purchasing...

However I reserved the Lunar game that is coming for the DS

Lunar SSSC shouldn't go for that much unless you are buying from ebay. I got mine after hitting every used game store in the city, and paid $40 cdn for it. That was last year.

It's probably pretty tough to find now, but still should be easier to find than Lunar 2 for PSX.

Thing is, it came in a boxset with a bunch of extras. (Map, Soundtrack CD, leather bound instruction manual...)

If you don't care about all that stuff, you might find just the game selling for cheaper.
