If you've ever been curious as to what the real Battle of the Planets/G-Force/Eagle Riders was really like, check out this month's issue of NewType USA (a fanmag devoted mostly to Japanese anime), which features a DVD with an episode of Gatchaman in both English and Japanese, which features the original theme songs for the show, title card, etc. etc., and most importantly...NO 7-Zark-7! The entire series has been promised by ADV Films, including 20 "Never Before Seen in America!" episodes.

I've seen the sample episode at least three times since I bought it yesterday, and I'm just about ready to buy the entire Collection 1 box set...and not just for the Alex Ross cover art!;)

P.S. Before you say "Hey! This belongs in The Anime Forum, ya dumb broad!" Keep in mind that Battle of the Planets was once part of Boomerang's "BoomerAction" lineup. (When last I looked, BotP is currently running on The Anime Network.)

You mean G-Force?

I actually prefer Battle Of The Planets to Gatchaman (although I prefer Gatchaman to G-Force and Eagle Riders). There is a charm and gentle simplicity to Battle (and a kickarse soundtrack) which I really enjoy. I find the characters are far more charismatic as well.

Some complain that Botp was a confusing mish mash of stories (thanks to their editing of the original) but quite often, the original form of Gatchaman makes as little to no sense in some scenes.. so don't be fooled into thinking that Gatchaman will always bring coherancy to the it's editing American sister!

Gatchaman may have been old, and some of the stories a bit hokey (Cobra has nothing on Galactor when it comes to weird schemes) but the original Gatch can in no way be considered less coherent than Battle of the Planets, with its constant mention of outer space even in the most obvious of places, tattered togethered fight scenes, and of course, the ever-present lies of 7-Zark-7.

I'll give you the music though. That's what happens when you spend over a million on sound and vocals.

Preview? Forget about that and go buy the box set already. It's Gatchtastic!

I never said it was less coherant as Battle Of The Planets, just not as coherant as one would hope after seeing it's American sibling.

Personally, I don't think BotP is as incoherant as many suggests and in fact, I've read (and agreed) with many standpoints that the premise and struggle of Battle Of The Planets - believe this or not - makes more sense than Gatchaman...

But maybe that's for another thread. I love both, but I generally enjoy watching an episode of Battle Of The Planets more than Gatch. Yes I'm in the minority on this, I wouldn't attempt to suggest otherwise.

*dive into the thread*

Well, i thought I'd never see the day when someone else other than me made a Gatchaman-related thread around here!!!

As you can see by my avatar, i am a G-Force fan primarily since it was the incarnation that introduced me to Gatchaman 10 years ago, when CN gave the shelved '80's dub of Gatchaman its first-ever run.

But only with 12 episodes out the door I'm afraid to say that ADV's new Gatchaman dub has supplanted all previous dubs (with the voice acting being a preference of each Gatch fan, deciding whether they like the BotP,G-Force or ADV Gatch VA's) I think ADV's VA's are great, and get the job done. But IMO, no VA cast will be as appropiate for Gatchaman as the original Japanese cast.

Like I've mentinoed in previous threads, the time is ripe for G-Force to come home, back to Turner territory. In other words, to come to Boomerang. The airing rights to G-Force are currently held by ADV's Anime Network, which has the airing rights to all 3 English dubs of Gatchaman (why bother when soon they're going to be airing their own dub? Not like anyone is gonna go back to BotP or G-Force after watching it.). G-Force was replaced by BotP last October when it made its jump from Boomerang (only airing 20 out of its 85 episodes on Boomerang) and hasn't been on the air whatsover (except for Time Warner Cable's Anime Network On-Demand lineup) ever since. G-Force too was yanked without all of its episodes being aired. Now ADV Gatch is set to debut on AN very soon, most likely replacing BotP.

Right now, Boomerang's scheduling is a complete mess and has been so ever since the beginning of the year when they scrapped its comparably organized scheduling. If they were to bring back a full-fledged Boomeraction (or other action-show block) on Boom then I'd like G-Force to be in the fold. Though i wonder if ADV will allow 2 different dubs of the same show to be aired on TV simultaneously. Also makes me wonder whether they are trying to effectively kill any chances of BotP or G-Force ever airing on TV again. Which would be a HUGE blow to the G-Force dub considering there isn't a market (or fanbase for that matter, I'm probably one of the handful) for it to be released on home video (only 13 of its 85 eps were released on DVD, and most likely it'll remain that way) when there's already 2 dubs competing against each other (BotP Vs. ADV Gatch). The last hope to see G-Force in its entirety is on the air. To this day i still cross my fingers, hoping to see this dub just once in its entirety, something that i was too young to appreciate back in '95.
