View Full Version : Need Help Converting Audio Files
OK, so I just downloaded this audio file, only I can't listen to it. Apparently it's in the .wv format, which will only work on something called a "Wave Player," but all I can find on it are source codes and filters that don't work. Is there any way to convert .wv files to .wav or .mp3 files?

Maybe it's actually this sort of .wv file?
I can't get any of the .exe files to open for more than a split second and WinAmp (Why'd they have to use Winamp only? Making me download it again...) STILL won't play the files, even though I installed the plugin.

Download it from http://www.wavpack.com/downloads.html
The reason the exe files won't run but for a second is because it's a command-line program. Download the graphical frontend from http://members.home.nl/w.speek/wavpack.htm (http://members.home.nl/w.speek/wavpack.htm)
OK, I download all that crap, but now I can't open the damn files! WinAmp can't open it, various converters can't open them, and neither can that frontend thingy. I tried repairing the files, I tried fiddling with the properties, but nothing works.
For the love of...why can't these people just use .wav or .mp3 files like normal people!?

I never had to use a .wv, and I'm glad I haven't yet because I'm sure it isn't good. (That's the impression that I get.)
The file could be corrupted. It happens once in a while. I'd get a second .wv file and try that out.
I think working at the command line would be easiest.
At the risk of being joe-obvious, remember to use wvunpack to un-pack the .wv file. It's basically a zipped audio format.
wvunpack xxx.wv xxx.wav
With proper path included as well as names.
If you have everything installed you can create your own .wv by simply...
wavpack xxx.wav xxx.wv
Other options, try another player.
It looks like foobar2000 may work.
I'd try it myself before recommending, but as it turns out I haven't used my windows instillation for so long I kinda forgot the passwords. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v421/Aquadementia/doh.gif
Actually, it looks like wavpack is available for my system, and............................ a quick search and I couldn't find a .wv file, but I did make my own and then decompressed it with no problems.
After much, much, much tinkering, I finally managed to get these damn things converted into .wav files.
And, of course, I misread the original title when I went to download it, so it turns out I already HAD the audio file before this thing even began. -_-
