View Full Version : Guys in make-up, thoughts?

I think it can be undeniably cute for some. A little touch of lip gloss, and blush and eye shadow perhaps. Oh, and nail polish.

And just to say, I'm a guy but I feel no shame in wishing to try on make-up. It's part of my femenineness you know, and I love it.

Being open minded is fabulous. ^.^

Er...It's not the kind of thing I would do. At all.

But last year in Biology this guy sat next to me wore makeup on occasion. He always had really long hair, and these strange boots. He was a nice guy, but kind of a weirdo all around. Especially with the kind of stuff he would talk about (like about how his house was haunted and stuff).

Of course, about half way through the year he stopped showing up for class altogether, even if he was in school.

Finally SOMEONE posted something with sense...Was that so hard everybody? Anyways, the reason for me, I'm Bisexual . So some of what makes me, isn't all "male type thoughts" and such, ok? It's not scary, it's just me.

I don't like makeup at all. I prefer that both guys and girls don't wear it.

And what does being bisexual have to do with being "all male thoughts" or not? Sexual lifestyle != gender identity.

Yeah. This might turn out to be a flamewar.

Well...I've never seen any guy wear make-up unless he's in a costume or a mime. So usually I think two words if a guy wears it casually: He's gay.

I've seen guys in make up and they never look quite right to me. Even with light amounts it seems over done and out of place. Needless to say, it's not something I would do.

Make-up is a lie.

Well, at least an exaggeration.

Women use it to amplify signals of youth, health and sexual vitality.
There may also signals of dominance or social standing among other female humans communicated through make-up, but as a guy that none of my business.
And of course there's some use for diversity, individuality. artistry maybe, or in the case of goths, contrariness.

Guys wearing make-up, well it's a free country. I don't think I would want to see it catch on though.

I think it's sending signals people aren't expecting to get from a guy, so it's bound to bother people.

I'm sure there may be subtle make-ups that could make my skin look more even or something and I would be better looking. But shaving every day is more bother then I like so I don't need to be making more trouble for myself.
But that's just how i see things.

Simply put- I rather like the idea of guys in drag (and/or wearing make-up). It's quirky.

'pparently girls on this forum think I'd be hot in a red dress. Damn straight.

I'm glad you asked! =) It's not something I would ever -ask- a guy to do if he didn't come up with it on his own, but I've gotta admit ... there's something oddly appealing to me about a guy who's wearing a little bit of mascara or eyeliner, or who's painted his nails. Aesthetically I guess it just looks nice to me, and beyond that - well, I don't know, I guess I've always been drawn to guys who aren't hung up on being tough and stereotypically "manly" - which is not at ALL to say that wearing makeup is the only way to demonstrate you're not hung up on being manly, of course - nonetheless, well, what can I say - I'm a bit odd and I guess I like that in my guys, too!

The only time I've ever seen males in makeup not doing standup was... well, goths.

It's not much different than crossdressing, which is unusual for the straight people here but not really something we haven't seen before, nor at all "shocking".

All male Hollywood actors also wear some makeup at some point during their careers, if not often. Heck, all actors in general, even theatre.

Personally, since I'm straight with relatively conservative sexual orientations, I'm not into it, but since I have dry skin I could see it being good if I have to look good in public. Okay, I don't really don't need the lipstick and the eye liner, though...:p

A guy wearing a little mascara can look pretty good, though he needs to be of the androgynous sort to pull it off, I think.

Eddie Izzard!!

What..? >_> <_< He wears women's clothes and loves the ladies. He's an executive transvestite!

"Of course, I couldn't tell the kids at school I was a transvestite. They's kill me with sticks. 'Why are we killing him with sticks?' 'I don't know, he said a word we didn't understand... and he won at Scrabble with it.'"

...

You can't land on the Moon and wind down the window and go, "Is this - Sea of Tranquility? Sea of Tranquility? Is this Sea of Tranquility? Sea of Tranquility? There's no one around!” But he had a sense of humor so he should have used it, ‘cause there was that lunar module there – a fixed camera, just fixed, not panning left or right, just stationary.

So he could've been there saying, "Hi, people on the Moon. As you can see, the Sea of Tranquility here, there's the mountains in the distance, there's the Earth! There, you're looking back up at yourselves there. Over to my right, I can see a (bleep)ing monster! There's a monster behind me! ( screaming ) Oh no, help! Get off my leg!" Buzz Aldrin in a monster outfit ( growling ) Neil doing a close-up with… "He's got me, Houston. The monster's got me! He wants cash! He's got my hand up behind my back. I think he knows jiu-jitsu! He wants cash for the release of my life. Send a million… - two million dollars, leave it in a bag by the Sea of Tranquility. I don't know, the North Shore! What the (bleep)ing ‘ell...?" Oh, it would have worked, wouldn't it?:D

All male Hollywood actors also wear some makeup at some point during their careers, if not often. Heck, all actors in general, even theatre. Not just actors, also politicians, news anchors, models, musicians, and a host of other careers. Wearing make-up is definitely not something that matches my sensibilities, but when you think about it, it's not all that uncommon.

I usually find make up off putting on anyone. I do like it in the goofy, quirky, or fun crossdressing sense.:gir:

Simply put- I rather like the idea of guys in drag (and/or wearing make-up). It's quirky. Damn straight. (Total serious) Why? Is it the drag? Guys just don't have the build to make female clothes look good. There are signal areas that girl clothes are meant to display that guys just don't have.

Or is it the willingness to "display"? There are guy clothes that do that but we end up looking like "Euro Trash". We will do nearly anything for the right attention. ;)

Goth is the only makeup I'd ever consider, though with my personality, I'd make a very strange Goth
(Really considering how to say this) Guys deal with eachother with a certian amount of aggressiveness, it's almost impossible to ignore it. Of course "war paint" is makeup of sorts. Anything feminine most likely puts us at a disadvantage

(sorry if this is rambling)

My best friend in high-school wore eye-liner to school one day. Personally, I thought it looked stupid on him, but everyone else said that it made him look "fierce". So, I guess that I'm no judge of that sort of thing...

(Total serious) Why? Interesting question... not sure I have a good enough answer. I don't really know why. Why do some people find brown eyes more attractive than blue? (or vice versa) Actually, I think it is sort of the awkwardness of it. The abnormality. And of course, it's not just guys wearing drag in general that's attractive. It does look better on some, more than others (as with near everything).

I've heard there are guys that can look good in jeans made for the ladies. As for make-up, I would like to also try something new, and i think it'd be a fun thing. I mean, my fave FF villain has on make-up too. (Kuja)

Also it's not a bad thing for a guy to be openly femenistic. Infact I applaud those that do, because it shows you're not a close minded fool like many guys can be..No offense to guys on here, just saying.

Besides, the idea makes me happpy. I'm Bisexual, so I happen to enjoy femenistic activities, what are you going to do, brand me as "Weird" for it?

I sure hope not, but let's stick to topic

Hey Sam, any colors you'd say universally are good, and any tips? Oh, and I could use some explanations on some things, any help would be most wonderful! Thanks all!

EDIT : The questions refer to all girls actually, hehe.

I've never worn makeup but I did dress as a pretty bishounen from the anime Gravitation at Otakon last year. I have to admit....it was fun.

I think the best part had to be my friend (now gf) going shopping with me to find a pair of tight girl's pants and a wig. Heh, good times.

And honestly I would love to try it again. I'm bi too so I'm open to trying almost anything once. Variety makes things interesting.

Personally I'm not attracted to men wearing make-up. But I did have a homosexual guy friend in high school who did wear make up (such as eyeliner, lip gloss, maybe a little powder here and there). I have also seen many goths who wore make-up as well.

I cannot STAND guys with make up on. It looks ridiculous as it is on women. I mean, WHAT is the point of putting up an artificial, fake, unreal face to the world when you KNOW it is a LIE!No matter how many ounces of power you cake on your face, at the end of teh day it HAS to come off. And you WILL be forced to look at your TRUE,REAL self in the mirror again. It will NOT make you more beautiful, nor will it make you more attractive. If you hide yourself behind layers of cosmetics...I can only wonder what else is there that is hidden?

Only two types of men may wear make-up:
KISS
Barbarians

other than that, it just doesn't look right, KISS makes it look good to rock out on, Barbarians paint stripes and emblems on their face and body to assist in scaring the hell out of defenceless villagers as they plunder what little they have...

Thank you for the good laugh.

And to contribute to this thread, I use to wear black fingernail polish.. don't, really, anymore, but that's all the make-up I wore.

I don't think guys wearing make-up are hot or cute or whatever.
Just a bit weirder than me... which is an accomplishment in my book. :anime:
