Well according to the Detroit Free Press, Eminem has announced that after he's done with his world tour in September being concluded in Dublin, Ireland, he's not going to make anymore solo albums or do any tours. This is kind of shocking that he's retiring.

This is kind of shocking that he's retiring. Not really, his last two albums were awful. I stopped liking him after I tired of Lose Yourself, which was the only song I liked on 8 Mile. The movie got such bad reviews that even though I was a fan of his at the time I didn't spend money to see it. And that Triumph duo was a disaster.

It's clear Marshal is absolutley aware that he needs to take a break, his being a father has also softened him up more
That being said, I liked "Encore", in that it was slightly more above "Eminmen Show", although I do like that also, it had to be the most blatantly childish album of any rap artist since Vanilla Ice, you could easily have a five year old sing along to "Without Me", did he write half of those tracks whilst watching Halie play on her scooter? The only track I hated on that album was "Dads' Gone Crazy", the instant rappers use thier daughters in tamer tracks...that's crossing the line.

Didn't he already pull this stunt once?

Yay! Eminem is retiring! Maybe people got sick of his white rap and he finally decided to call quits!

I liked "Encore", in that it was slightly more above "Eminmen Show".Eminem Show is the best hip hop album ever. Encore didn't have any good new songs. And Without Me is the song that made me his fan. Everyone listened to that. After the movie he went downhill. I especially didn't like how unpatriotic he turned since the war started.

What are you talking about??
This is great news, i posted this on other boards and we all agreed that the retirement was good but unfortunately that means he will now be able to produce horryble beat after horryble beat.

Encore is my least favorite Eminem album. "Just lose it", was by far his worst single IMO. The rest of the singles didn't do much for me either. For some reason, I can't see Em completely retiring. I predict within a couple of years or so, he'll make a comeback album.

I'm afraid many of you might be attached to the "Slim Shady" Triumph/Moby-bashing, insenstive bastard persona that Eminem sold since the beginning of his career. I'll admit, I have a soft spot for songs like "The Real Slim Shady," "My Name Is," and "Without Me." (I can't stand "Just Lose It" and I'm not a big fan of "*** Like that")
But I respect Eminem for songs like "Stan," "Mosh," and "Like Toy Soldiers." If people would only listen to his serious stuff, they'd realize he's a more valuable artist than the slew of gangster rappers out there focused on libido and tough-guy attitude. Eminem incorporates these themes too, it's the nature of the beast, but he introduces other, more interesting ones that other rappers can barely imitate (though they're starting to try).
Eminem's been crude, ignorant, and trashy, but he's not without his merits. If he wants to rest and remove himself from the public eye, he certainly has the right, but I hope he produces some worthy successors (because he will definitely continue producing on his labels). I definitely hope that the likes of Lil' Jon and others don't flood the market. There's a place for them in the rap community, but not to dominate.

Encore is what got me to stop listening to new Em. It just doesn't hold up the other 3 albums, so I suppose I'm mostly indifferent to this rumour, regardless of what ultimately develops.

Whether he retires or not, I'll still continue to listen to Eyedea and Atmosphere instead.
I did like the beats to some of Eminem's mainstream songs. I just didn't get all hyped about his lyrics like everyone else.

(Although, to be fair, I have a soft spot for Eminem. The Marshall Mathers LP still impresses me.)

You realize that hip-hop isn't limited to just black people?

You know who stole black music? Elvis.
Eminem? Not so much.
Actually I think they both did(em and elvis).
But the good white rappers like Aesop Rock and Vinnie Paz make you think its for the better musically and not just financially

....That bordered on racist.
I don't like it when people keep trying to emphasize race preference in a specific music genre. I'm not one of those people who believes in a "colorless" society where everyone is blind to everyone else's culture. Hip-hop has definitely had a unique impact on the black community (at least in America), but it's not "black music." People of all races and backgrounds have the right and the ability to try their hand at the genre. Eminem and Elvis did not "steal" the culture, they admired it and pursued a career in it. Whether or not their skin color improved their commercial success, they still produced some quality music, in my opinion.
