SmackDown! is well on the road to The Great American Bash where JBL will face SmackDown!’s final draft pick, Batista, for the World Heavyweight Championship. With the event only a couple of weeks away, what will SmackDown! Superstars both new and old do to ensure they are on the card?

Bracing for the Bash
July 14, 2005
The Great American Bash will be just 10 days away when SmackDown! arrives in Worcester, Mass.
Certainly, there’s plenty of contention between JBL and World Heavyweight Champion Batista as the two Superstars prepare for their showdown on July 24 at the pay-per-view.
In the meantime, Batista has his hands full in a Champion vs. Champion match-up with United States Champion Orlando Jordan this week.
Also, Christian takes on Booker T and the Mexicools will finally have an official match, taking on Paul London, Scotty 2 Hotty and Funaki in a six-man cruiserweight tag team battle.
Also, Eddie Guerrero has mentally tortured Rey Mysterio for two weeks now, constantly threatening to reveal a special secret that will apparently rock Mysterio’s family.
What’s next in this sordid story? Don’t miss SmackDown! on UPN this week (8/7) CT.

You'll have to wait until Saturday (7/16) for my opinion, as the Phillies game is pre-empting tonight's program to 5 PM that day in Philly.
They should bring back those Randy Orton health updates he used to do when he was hurt on RAW.

Hopefully we'll get to see Taker getting some revenge on Hassan tonight. In fact, I think I'll go look up the spoilers right now, and then I'll watch it in 1 1/2 hours when it comes on.

Paul London's backup against the Mexicools was Scotty 2 Hotty and Funaki? I miss Akio already. Poor Paul keeps getting hit with botched moves from off the top rope.
"At the Great American Bash, it's gonna be MNM versus The Road Warriors!"
"We can't do that, Joey."
"Why?"
"Because his partner is dead!"
Should I be ashamed at myself for LOLing at that?
Leave of absence for Hassan. Boo. They took all that media backlash for that? I was hoping for some sort of payoff from last weeks angle, like hints at a face turn for Daivari or a stable or something.

Well, we got a warning before Smackdown as a result of last week. Better than the crawl at least.
More creepy/good acting from Eddie. But it got a little worse when Eddie's family showed up. I just hope they don't turn on Rey at the Bash.
Hard to believe the best part of Smackdown was Melina calling Torrie old. http://67.18.37.14/html/emoticons/tongue.gif
And Road Warrior Animal showed up. Not surprised since he's Johnny Ace's brother. And is going to team up with Heidernich at the Bash. I guess they didn't learn anything from 2001 WCW.
And they canned the Dudleys for that. The worst part was the line about Hawk being dead. They crossed the line with that. http://67.18.37.14/html/emoticons/angry.gif
Of course they sidestepped the whole Hassan brohuha with his lawyer showing up. If a reporter was there instead of a lawyer, there could have been a double meaning.
You can catch a Hassan promo taped Tuesday at wwe.com. Actually one of Hassan's best promos to date.

SmackDown! had a much better feeling being in a their own arena this week. RAW’s stepbrother was really able to be out on their on this week and it was better for them.
Man, now Eddie’s wife Vickie is on things?! This thing is obviously huge. I just hope it’s something more than the obvious. Losing to Rey Mysterio all those times has clearly mess with Eddie’s head.
The six-man match between The Mexicools and the cruiserweights WWE didn’t fire was pretty good. You can always find some good action whenever two or more cruiserweights are garthered. Juvi really clocked London is the face with the 450. Everyone seems to move their opponent too close to the corner to execute those very dangerous moves.
After seeing his interview with Josh I think Batista could be a big benefit to SmackDown! He’s a legimate competitor and a strong champion and even though I believe it was a calculated move by WWE to send all the WCW championships to SmackDown! and get the final WWF championship to RAW, the legitmacy of the World Heavyweight Championship being the RAW title should help out the show.
Good to see Candice Michelle make her first SmackDown! apperance. I liked how they had Christian talk with her to kind of transition her over from RAW. Now if they would just include Sylvain Grenier. Maybe he and Candice could be a couple. Women like French right?
The part of Sable at this year’s Great American Bash will be played by Melina. Except this time I think the match might actually work. It’ll be a lot more fun to watch, that’s for sure. :D I like-a the Melina.
Road Warrior Animal!! I think he could have used a tanktop, but it was still a rush to see the former World Tag Team Champion make an appearance on SmackDown! I think Heidenreich started to hold him back before Animal actually started running towards MNM though. It should be an interesting match with hopefully Mercury & Nitro gaining some more legitimacy.
Each week when Cole & Tazz say that “The Great American Bash is brought to you by WWE.com” I can’t help but think of how it pretty much means that they couldn’t get anyone to sponsor it.
I know that Hardcore Holly is by no means a pleasant individual, but the crowd reaction he gets to basically have no storyline or major feud is tremendous. His match with Eddie cannot to attributed to him being the first Superstar the fans saw like when he is a part of the Velocity taping.
Ya know, I like Holly’s kick to mid-section a lot more before Cole had to scream about how it was a “completely legal” kick to the gut, every friggin time.
Seeing the commercial for Hogan’s apperance on RAW to answer Michaels’ challenge just made me think about how SD! almost never even mentions their PPV until the RAW one before it has taken place and here RAW is already building up to SummerSlam. It’s probably the second biggest even of the year, but still… Double standards abound.
Things did not turn out so well for Mr. Thomas Whitney Esquire. I find it interesting that the usually phantom Undertaker made an appearance on SmackDown! and now we won’t see Hassan next week. It boggles the mind. Plus, the Hassan reaction on WWE.com (http://www.wwe.com/content/media/video/494698/776716/hassanresponds?view=wvx&speed=300&dynwvx=) was a lot better than the lawyer.
What Christian did to Booker was the ultimate example of not being able to get out of the starting block. It was right of Nick Patrick to allow Booker T to somewhat gain his bearings—for all the good it did him.
I liked how JBL brought up how Batista could have faced him at WrestleMania if he had made the jump to SmackDown! The events leading up to the choice were done by Triple H, but the interest should still be there.
The main event match was more or less a glorified handicap match and I look forward to seeing Batista gain his revenge next week. JBL may not be ready for an angry, cornered animal.

I still like her from the GoDaddy.com ads.

From what I read, UPN refused to show Hassan the next few weeks due to the terrorist bombings and last weeks storyline, so the WWE had to give him a leave of abscence until Great American Bash.
I actually found myself enjoying Smackdown! this week. The storylines were good, and they were able to develop the PPV and develop their characters. The draft lottery may have taken Smackdown!'s biggest stars, but I think they'll have a more entertaining show because of the stars they got from RAW, and I believe that will fully be the case if this weeks show is anything of what's to come.

Kind of a middle-of-the-road show this week. Alot of stuff was happening, but not a whole lot of it felt important.
-I don't know what to make of this whole storyline between Eddie and Rey. I'm more of an action/match person, so I'm usually not big on overblown storylines. I guess as long as the match itself is good, they could say they were feuding over the last piece of pizza for all I care. Less talky, more fighty. I will say that I did laugh pretty hard when it all went backstage. Hardcore Holly tells Eddie "not in front of your kids" about the argument, then seconds later shoves their father against a car knocking him down in front of them. Isn't that a little worse than arguing? The line "leave before I get hurt" was pretty great, too.
-WWE presents the entire Cruiserweight Division (minus Nunzio) in one match. Mexicools versus London and the Velocity jobbers was fairly entertaining, if not a little short. With the recent firing of Billy Kidman, I guess Juventud took it upon himself to provide the botched top-rope-move role for the company. That was legit nasty, and London is lucky he wasn't seriously injured. Hopefully next week they'll announce a Cruiserweight match for Great American Bash, since I don't even remember the last time London got to defend the belt in a match (that wasn't interrupted).
-Less said about a Bra & Panties match at PPV the better. When I see things like this, I can't help but wonder how WWE has any female fans at all. I'm really curious, does it not bug the girls who watch wrestling to see this kind of thing all the time? Maybe it's just me, but I'd take a 15 minute Trish/Victoria match in full ring gear any day of the week. If I want to objectify women, I can watch Playboy TV :D
-Ugh, Heidenreich. Akio and Charlie Haas are released, but this guy gets to keep his job? I know he's semi-over with the crowd, but there's just no cosmic justice. And then to team up with Animal? They must really wanna push those DVD sales up. I can't believe they let Johnny Nitro say what he did, that was extremely harsh. Not really looking forward to the PPV match, but I guess MNM needed an opponent fast.
-Eddie and Holly had a pretty decent match. Like Penguin said, I have no idea how Holly is so over. I know they add in crowd reaction noise all the time to the show, but most of that response really was for Sparky Plugg. I'm in no way a fan of Bob Holly's, but maybe WWE should take advantage of that in some way (he would have made a way better U.S. Champion than Orlando). Match was going along nicely until Eddie got into Tonya Harding mode. I laughed at the end picturing Hardcore Holly laying on the mat holding his knee, crying and repeating "Why? Why? Why?".
-That Undertaker entrance gets longer every time he omes out. This is no joke or embelished in any way, but when his music came on I got up and went to the kitchen. I opened the fridge, got out the Sunny D, made myself a screwdriver, put everything away, and went back to watch the show. I swear, no kidding, when I sat down he was just barely taking his hat off. I'm sorry, that's ridiculous that an entrance gets the same amount of time as some matches.
-Have I mentioned lately how awesome Christian is? From his great backstage talk with the Barbie earlier in the night, to totally owning Booker T, the guy is greatness. I couldn't believe it, not only did he get a win(after what seems like forever), but he finally got to hit the Unprettier! Seriously, when was the last time he actually hit that move? It's been one of my favorite signature moves in all of the WWE since way back in the TLC days, and it's hit so rarely that I mark out every time he really lands it.
-Main event was pretty bland and predictable. Nice to see Orlando actually wrestle a match since he, you know, has a belt. I guess since Cena never defended the US Title, he thinks he doesn't have to either. Batista looked pretty good, but I'm still a little hesitant about the PPV match. Bradshaw isn't the best worker in the world, and Batista has never had a really good match unless he's working with somebody who makes him look good (Triple H, Benoit). Hopefully the PPV match won't be a trainwreck.
*** of of ***** from me. Could have been better, but it easily could have been worse.

Does anyone have ANY idea what the heck Eddie Guerrero said that got bleeped out? It was like 20 syllables. Was it a Spanish profanity of some sort?
I'm never going to be able to hear Muhammad Hassan's theme song the same way again after seeing this: http://muhammadhassan.ytmnd.com
Ha ha, I love how in the match card promo for Great American Bash, everyone's portrait is inside a star-shaped border where you can't really see below the neck -- except for the contestants in the Bra & Panties match.
JBL's staples, AAAH! OOOH! Cringe cringe cringe!

Finally got to see it today (7/16). Well, I gave it three stars. Did that lawyer look a lot like Steven Richards in his "Right To Censor" days?

Well, I gave it three stars. Did that lawyer look a lot like Steven Richards in his "Right To Censor" days?I don't really think so. Steven's hair was a lot shorter and it wasn't wet. He looked more like Dr. Jonathan Crane from Batman Begins (http://forums.toonzone.net/showthread.php?t=143296) than Steven Richards (I did dig up a picture of Stevie for you which is attached to my post, for some reason WWF put the bright blue background behind him). Does anyone know where we might have seen Thomas Whitney Esquire before? Looking at his picture again he seemed kind of familar.

They just aired the segment again on the WWE Experience. It was some Spanish words (profanities?) Maybe UPN thought he was cursing and bleeped out his tirade.
