The full list of shorts being included on the upcoming Mickey Mouse and Silly Symphonies DVDs can be seen on this site (along with a list of extras on the Snow White and Dumbo DVDs):

The only one on the Mickey DVD I see being edited is "Pluto's Judgement Day" (to remove the scene with the "Uncle Tom" cat in Pluto's nightmare).

"Cookie Carnival" and "Woodland Cafe" most likely will have scenes missing too...

I highly doubt any will be censored, since Disney put Toot Whistle Plunk and Boom uncut on the Fantasia 2000 DVD.

And that short is usually edited for TV.

Also, past videos of Pluto's Judgement Day were uncut (Scary Tales for example)

Let's hope the Disney Company got some psychiatric help for their compulsive censoring. (censormania?)

Which titles are B&W or CinemaScope?

None of the Silly Symphonies were filmed in CinemaScope. On the Silly Symphonies DVD, the following are in black & white:
Mother Goose Melodies
The Skeleon Dance
The China Plate
Egyptian Melodies
The Ugly Duckling (1931)
Birds Of A Feather
The Busy Beavers
Just Dogs

This DVD and the Mickey Mouse one look promising. Hopefully, they'll be successful and inspire other studios to release their animated libraries.

In a Disney animation newsgroup, someone mentioned that the crows in "Dumbo" had other scenes in the movie, and that they popped up throughout the story to comment on the happenings like a Greek chorus. Has anyone else ever heard this?

What about "Mickey's Trailer"? Can't have the kiddies trying to make popcorn like Goofy does.

Yes I heard of this too. Apparently the Laserdisc release and recent videotape releases have these moments cut out. I checked them both, and verified it (although I'm not exactly sure of what I'm looking for except extra crow animation). Plus, in a few days I'll also check the very old OLD first video release of Dumbo as well (the one that came out in about 1983 in the white blister case). There's a video store near where I live that still has a lot of those original Disney releases for rent (they even had the original 1983 release of "Fun and Fancy Free" in the white blister case too!! ... Even though a couple of years back it was billed then on the cover of the video and DVD as the "first time on video". Maybe the caption should really read "first time D*sn*y lies about a feature release on its cover to entice more people to buy it" :p

That's the first I've ever heard of it. Has this been mentioned anywhere besides some guy on the Disney newsgroup? I've read *a lot* of nutty stuff on Internet before, and would be more inclined to believe this if it was mentioned somewhere by somebody like Leonard Maltin or Jerry Beck.

I agree with you Jon about pretty ridiculous stories being propagated on the internet, but I don't participate in any other newsgroups besides this one.... And I have to have read that from one of my limited sources I refer to on a regular basis....(that narrows it down to a select three or four.... Jerry's Page, Jon's page, an animation magazine, or report in some other film source). However, as I said, I'm not even sure of what I would be looking for- this could have been hearsay based on original storyboard art or something.... maybe it was never intended to have been animated at all, but someone mistook it for a removed scene-

After I check that older Dumbo release, I'll repost again- by then the only way to prove this supposition's validity would be to hear from someone who owns the original film print itself

Disapointment again...I was hoping that "HELLS BELLS" would make the volume set.

I would've liked to see "Mother Goose Goes Hollywood" on the Silly Symphony set and some stuff after 1938 on the Mickey one, such as the uncut versions of "Mickey's Surprise Party", "Mickey's Birthday Party", and "Symphony Hour".....:D

I have seen the original 1983 video. It does not have any extra scenes with the black crows...that guy is lying.

It wouldn't make much sense to cut only some of the Crow scenes. If Disney really had a problem with them, they'd be cut out completely. And I think the film is too well known for them to pull a stunt like that. I'm betting that the Dumbo DVD will be uncut. As for the "Treasures" DVDs... I'm not so confident. Hardly anyone would notice if there were cuts made to a random Silly Symphony from 70 years ago. I probably wouldn't notice myself. The only way to be certain is for someone to buy a copy who knows those cartoons like the back of their hand, and see what they have to say.
