I've read that Gadget worked for Interpol. Why couldn't they say that he worked for Interpol on the show?

I've also read that Gadget used to be a policeman and after a freak banana peel accident he was rebuilt and had thousands of gadgets put into him. Is this the real origin?

I don't think the show even explained why he got those attachments. Also he worked for the Metro City Police.

As for the origin you read I doubt it's real since I saw another website that states he fell down a staircase.

Anyone know if the live-action movie bothered explaining Gadget's origin?

Yeah it did. I watched it a long time ago but in the movie he use to work nights as a security gaurd aka:rent a cop for this cybornetic/robotics company.

I think (because I watched the movie a long time ago) he tried to stop some robbers stealing from the company but something happened and he got shot numerous times and almost died, ran over numerous times and almost died, got hit by a truck and almost died, blown up and almost died, set on fire and almost died or all of the above...and he almos...died.

But whatever happend his body was beyond fixing, like what happened to Robocop, so the company he'd worked for fixed him by letting him be the first subject of their experiemnt: to become the first cybernetic...human? Or watever a half robot/human is.

FYI, Scorpio_G's explanation of the movie is A LOT funnier and interesting than watching the movie itself, which was like having a small child use your nether regions as a punching bag for about 75 minutes, which was the running time of this THEATRICAL live action film.

I'd imagine the original series Inspector Gadget was also a reference/parody to the 70's TV series the Six Million Dollar Man, though guess its immediate cartoon predecessor might've been "the Robonic Stooges" (sp?) from that 70's "Skatebirds" series...

Never saw the movie... not sure if I want to (even if Rupert Everett's in it)...

IMO the movie is okay. It's not that great mind you and I wouldnt of payed 9 dollers to watch it. It's good for a lazy afternoon on a Saturday or Sunday and if your interested in writing Inspector Gadget fanfics loosely based off the movie. At least it explained how he got his abilities in the first place.

Wow! someone actually thought my response was funny and I wasnt even trying to be funny at all. Well this topic wins a little tidbit I learned a few days ago on some E! Biography:

Did you know that Linsay Lohan, the girl who's playing the lead role in the new Herbie movie was originally planned to play Penny in the first IG movie? What happened you asked? After working on The Parent Trap she worked shortly on a sitcom pilot in NYC until she was asked to move to LA after the pilot gained sucess which was around the same time when disney offered her the Penny role. However, she and her mom refused to move cross country and she decided to take a break from acting and work in school more. It's so wierd when you think what could have been different.:)
