Cookie Jar Entertainment has posted a tiny clip of the new flash version of Gerald McBoing Boing (http://www.cinar.com/EN/video_Gerald1.htm) coming to Cartoon Network soon. Anyone not familiar with the character can check this entry (http://www.toonopedia.com/gerald.htm) in the toonopedia. Basically he was a UPA character from a 1957 series that lacked the ability to speak and just made sound effects with his voice. I'm interested in seeing how this new series turns out. When you ditch voice actors, interesting things happen (i.e. Samurai Jack).

Gerald is looking as cute as ever. He kinna reminds me of Michael Winslow (the human sound-effects machine in the 'Police Academy' movies.)

I remember that character. I liked it that he just said sound effects instead of real words. I can recalled an old episode where a doctor tries to get Gerald to speak and at the end, Gerald was able to talk by talking through a telephone.

Well anybody not familiar with Gerald McBoingBoing and wants to see some of his old cartoons, they r available on DVD. Believe it or not, theyre part of the special features on the Hellboy DVD, along with an animated rendition of Poe's "The Tell-Tale Heart". If ur interested go rent it.

Cute, but I just don't see how they could find enough unique story plots for even one whole season with such a unique condition. They will probably use many of the old episode ideas from the original run. But if this resurrection doesn't pick up many young fans other than the older followers of the cartoon, it won't do well. Although it has uniqueness on it's side, and children will watch mostly anything unique, e.g. HHPAY.
I hope the character's misfortune doesn't alienate many viewers, but then it wouldn't be good if the only reason they watched was sympathy.

Well I don't think Gerald will be the only character. For example, Pikachu only says "pika pika" but he's in a lot of episodes of Pokemon. No doubt they'll use a narrator or other characters to guide the story.
