WS premieres its newest, uh, cartoon. A mouse who's a terrible worker applies for jobs...or something.

Looks kinda weird but hey so did ATHF.

Enjoy.

It is kinda dull...but in it's own odd, crazy, TGTTM way...it's rather amusing. Animation aside (Beatdigga and Master Moron...if I don't hear you complaining about this show's animation...so help me!), some of mass running-overs got me to smile, especially the one with the mouse and his voice change.

That said...the chinchilla scared the crap out of me.

Also, did anyone else get a SGC2C vibe from that OP?

GMB
06-20-2005, 12:43 AM
The theme song is grand in it's utter idiocy, and was just about my favourite part of the episode.

The rest is laid-back non-sequitur humour that really seemed to show it's influence from ATHF and some of the later Space Ghost eps. That is to say, it started strong, was for the most part funny, but occasionally wore out its welcome, wallowed in weirdness for its own sake and started to drag far too much for an 11 minute program. I have a feeling the doper crowd the creators of ATHF claimed were their die-hard fanbase will absolutely love it so much they'll wanna marry it.

I don't know if the animation style will fly (and people thought Tom was primitive, huh?) but this was pretty funny in spots, didn't try too hard or rely overmuch on toilet and nerdgasm humour, and well. . .I didn't hate it. But I can't say I liked it in anything but a sense of morbid "drive slow past the car wreck" kinda way. It's so out there it sorta defies rating in any classic sense, but screw it, it was good enough for a B

EDIT: Felt some further explanation was in order. ;)

Man, I wish I was disappointed that it was bad. I wanted to like it, but the non-sequitors in this just didn't work for me. The animation didn't bug me at all, but I just found myself staring.

I dunno; maybe it'll get better, but I'm not particularly optimistic.

Y'know, I ususally enjoy Adult Swim stuff in one way or another. Sealab Seasons 3 & 4 got at least a few chuckles out of me, and I greatly enjoyed the voice acting of Wolf's Rain.

However, that was the most boring piece of garbage I've ever seen on SpikeTV. Not even a rabid squirrel-thingy and burning cardboard buildings could save this one.

Pretty much summed my thoughts up. I liked Skillet, maybe alone for his design, the opening looks somewhat cool, as for everything else, boring. Maybe the show is trying to be an American version of Milk-Chan? All I can say is please only last 6 episodes, because I don't see it getting better.

You know, you'd think that with a look so cheap and awful the writing would be good enough to compensate.

It wasn't.

Anybody who thinks that any of the other originals suck and want them gone, I hope you're happy. We now have 12 oz. Mouse, and it is far worse than anything else ever aired on Adult Swim. Even The Groovenians. This single show makes everything else look good by comparison.

There's only so far you can go with trying to save money WS, come on. Half the time I couldn't tell what something was. Okay, that's probally an exaggeration(is it?), but still...horrible-looking. However, I find it surprising I didn't think it flat out sucked. The interactions and dialouge kept me from not calling it off. Then again I was eating an A1 Thick & Hearty burger. So that made things better.

Still though...damn. Not great by any means.

A couple parts were funny, but I agree that it just couldn't keep the weirdness going and be funny at the same time, AND the beginning wasn't all that funny any way. And NOOOOO, screwing linear cause-and-effect and dropping "plot points" if they could even be called that is not funny and will cease to be at least interesting in later eps.....

Is this even going to be a show? According to the schedule its not going to be on later Sundays. Is this just the pilot and we're gettting the show later on, or is this just another random thing like Perfect Hair Forever (ironically getting enough ratings to go from random 1-time deal to a full fledged series-unless that's another joke too).

P.S.

I can understand that they lost the excitement and passion to do SGC2C, becoming a chore that was always hard to write for anyway due to working with or working around the interviews, and hell, its a GOOD thing to do new things to keep the creativity going, they got bored with SGC2C and moved onto the other shows, many which start funny, and ones like ATHF STAY funny-

-but I kinda feel bad for ozMo and AS in general as many of the shows "jump the shark" or how some were never that good to begin with, and that the Tom/SGC2C crossover next Sun. looks infinitely better from a 30 second commercial compared to ozMo's entire 11 episode

All's not lost. We're getting new ATHF later on, an ATHF movie, Stroker and Hoop could get a boost in quality over its pilot like VB did in its second half, there's that huge ass thread with all the future comedy shows and pilots coming that I can't remember off top my head, and even though they get anime stinkers like WR, WHR, etc., the number of good, average, and mediocre anime is alot higher than that, like the current Sat. line-up. (Anime, good or bad, just needs a comedy for a ratings boost.) AS's non-FOX programming isn't doomed yet.

And yes I was a little bitter in writing that, even when looking on the bright side and finding alot of good and possibly-good stuff. AS's currently in a slump that it may or may not rise out of. The truth hurts.

Yeah, the animation did kind of bug me, but it's not as bad as Tom Goes to the Mayor, well, I mean, at least their mouths move on this show. And while the character designs might look like they were drawn by 5 year olds, at least they don't try to cast the ugliest people possible and then do their best to make them look even uglier like Tom Goes To the Mayor. But, enough with the Tom bashing.

I actually found this pretty funny. I really like how the Mouse doesn't give a damn about anything. He's kind of like a bad ass version of Master Shake. I liked the dialogue in the car.

"Aren't you driving."
"Not anymore"

The bar scene kind of dragged though. I really liked the part at the end where he tried shooting the shark and the Shark goes "bullet proof" and then the mouse goes "Oh, guess I'll take the job then."

That being said, the animation isn't nice to look at. I'm not sure if I'm going to enjoy watching this every week or not. I mean, while I was laughing out loud at scenes, I also found myself looking at the clock at other times. I kind of feel the way I do about this that I feel about Space Ghost. It's funny, but it's kind of boring at the same time. I mean, it sounds strange to say 12 Oz Mouse is boring when there's so many explosions and everything but I think part of it is just the animation style. It's just kind of boring to look at crappy little scribbles for 12 minutes. Anyway, this was better than Perfect Hair Forever and I look forward to seeing more episodes.

So, a psychotic mouse and his psychotic pet chincilla engage in non-sequiter banter with other characters who at least try to be sane. Throw in "a bit of the old ultra-violence" just for grins. And you got Oz.mo. From the preview I thought the animation, though primitive, had possibilities. But they weren't realized.

Comedies like ATHF and Tom work because of their characters. But the cast of Mouse was an unlikeable bunch. For me, 12 Oz. Mouse, Ep. 1, Sucked. The opening and ending were the best parts of the show. (^_*)

Prior to this, I said "I have zero expectation for this to be any good."

After it, I said "I'm disappointed. I wasted 12 minutes of my life watching that."

This is what happens when you have writers do the animation and the animators do the writing. I really felt that it made Tom's writing seem genius in comparison. It just went from one attempted joke to another without attempting to link it together at all.

However, I do agree. Skillet was, by far, the best thing on the show. I'd rather have him as the main character.

I've seen funnier episodes of Reign: The Conquerer. I've seen more interesting episodes of Witch Hunter Robin. This makes the entire run of Sealab seem gut-bustingly hilarious. Those are the comparrisons I've got, take your pick. This show had a good thrity second sketch and ran with it for eleven minutes. It felt like the whole thing was written in almost the same amount of time. And I'm not even going to complain about the animation, because it WAS about equal to other things on AS, and the character designs were about the only thing I didn't have a problem with.

Ugliest show ever on Adult Swim, and what's sad is that it doesn't completly have to do with the designs. I like the opening, and I liked when that chick turned into a dude because that joke was kind of clever and had effort put into it. Even that gag however which sounds funny on paper was ruined by how ugly this show is.

Ugh, even if you hate Tom don't compare it to this, Tom has some effort in the writing and visually isn't as ugly as this.

I give this a S for suck.

Demonic Raven

Argh..........so horrible. Definitely one of the the worst things Adult Swim as ever aired. Up there with Ripping Friends and what have you....

Anyway, there were very few parts I found funny. Something in the "car" to be exact. But that's about it.

The animation......I can't stand it. I don't mind Tom that much, but 12 Oz Mouse is a pure example of when bad animation just gets in the way of enjoyment. It's too awful.

What were they thinking? What in God's green Earth possessed them into thinking that a crappily drawn cartoon about a crappily drawn mouse would make a great cartoon? It's like they hired 4/5 year old kids design the show too.
And I thought TGTTM was bad. (From the previews, I thought those were storyboard anamatics)

Well, I'm officialy subscribing as a fan.

I didn't mind the animation/art so much but it bothers me in the same way O'Grady bothers me... I mean, it looks like they could have spent less money on not making the art so purposefully bad. AS forgets that the trick to Home Movies' and Space Ghost's terrible animation was that it was the best they could do... after seeing what AS can do, there's just no charm in this.

"Not drunk enough!"

I think that would be the mission statement for the show. Pitched, green-lighted, written, produced, acted, animated and aired while everyone involved was drunk off their ass.
Not even stoners could appreciate this. It could only be appreciated by the drunks who put it together and people who like to laugh at drunks at bars. The thing is, you either eventually sober up or realize how pathetic it is to laugh at drunks in bars.

This show is just aggervating that it's on T.V and it fills me with rage that is beyond human understanding. And that, friends, was the greatest joke of all.

Seriously, though, my personal reaction wasn't too strong either way. I was expecting to really love it, which I didn't, but I didn't feel the seathing hatred that so many here (expectedly) felt. The animation doesn't bug me, but like Strawberry Jam said, it's not charming, either. The writing felt amusingly laid back in some parts and lazy in others. I didn't laugh uproariously, I didn't sit there in bored silence. It all evens out to a neutral opinion in the end.

Don't know if anyone else noticed this, but the bartender appeared to have reversed writing floating in him in the bar scene. Perhaps this show was drawn on the back of the script.

Just watched my tape of this.

Now to be clear, animation quality doesn't mean much to me. I've had sock puppets make me laugh. I've had clipart make me laugh. The Interweb has tons of low quality crap that have made me flinch somewhere deep inside my hateful self at the very least. I can watch spanish language tv and chuckle. I've got seriously low standards.

But I have never ever watched something that was trying to be comedy that made me so utterly joyless and empty inside for a full 11 minutes.

I'm in awe. This was so miserable that it just has to be art. Or maybe a cruel joke from a hyperactive retard?

All the drugs in Keith Richard's locker could not make the corner of my mouth curl up in anything other than a hateful sneer.

Really... if you figure a 300000 people spent 11 minutes watching this hunk of bloody stool, that's over 50000 man hours utterly wasted. This wasn't just bad television, it's a certifiable crime against humanity.

There are some pilots that just should NOT be aired on television. This show doesn't even qualify as moving storyboards.

The best I could've given this was a C, and that's if every joke had been spot on (a rarity for any comedy). There was a spark or two, but nothing catchy.

This show is the dumbest thing from CN/AS since getting rid of the Looney Tunes cartoons. But it like I tell my friend when he saw PHF or was it Squidbillies, whatever show it was I told him that " Hey it's Adult Swim, they'll greenlight anything, like TGTTM." He said "Point well made." This had it moments, now only if the actors can act. And I found it funny when the this week on AS.com Bump said the final thing was and Why 12oz. M Rules/Sucks on the message boards.

Whats the difference between ATHF and the shows that are ATHF-like?

1. ATHF actually tries with its animation and as a result it looks decent.
2. ATHF doesn't deliver diologue at a snails pace.
3. ATHF sort of makes sense.

However the show showed some promise, specifically bringing boxguy to a porno and "man power." Other than that it was poop art as a style choice (just shoot me) and the same tired beer/sex/violence humor that didn't work in later Space Ghost, Sealab, Brak, later Aqua Teens, and most of the greenlighted pilots.

edit: Oh and I'm no expert but I'm pretty sure the voice acting would qualify as "crappy."

It could be hilarious if they could write some meaningfull dialogue, slow the action down, but add more content. I really like the animation style.

For instance 12oz Mouse goes to the movies etc, and instead of randomly blowing it up he would stay there the whole time making wise ass comments to people.

For randomness to be funny it has to be unexpected, if you know something is going to happen it won't get the shock reaction or the laugh. So maybe try to make it formulaic then slapping few wtf momments in there here and there. I mean the 12oz didn't do anything I didn't expect him to do by the time he blew up the porno set.

"Dude, 12 Oz. Mouse was so bad that it made (insert previously greenlit series that suffered from much the same reaction) seem like (insert current, generally well-liked series)!"

"12 Oz. Mouse was like watching (insert asinine internet anecdote about drugs or something, I dunno)!"

Finaly caught it off of my tape that I recorded. It was pretty meh. Not good, but not as bad as other people make it out to be. The opening was great, and I chuckled a couple of times during the show. You know dispite all the hatred of this show, I'm going to watch it next week anyways...

Why?

Because I have 11 minutes to kill....and much like Halebop, I fear I may miss somthing spectacular if I even do so much as blink...
Don't take this as me trying to tell you how to spend your time cause I'm not, I'm just saying:

.........................................................You could spend the 11 mintues you have to kill watching something better and if you are fearing you may miss something spectacular, just go sit outside and look at the stars for 11 mintues, if you don't you might miss a shooting star which migh only last a second but will be far better then the show and a better use of time.

I don't know if you have bad eyesight but I can see stars just fine without a telescope and shooting stars. Maybe you just live in a city or something where it's hard to see stars without a telescope.

Words cannot describe how painful this show was to watch. I gave it a chance and I'm realllllllllllllllllllllllllly sorry that I did. I hope this was a really bad joke becaues this show is the worst thing to ever be aired on T.V to date.

May I suggest looking at the stars or the sun as opposed to:
Watching any of AS
Watching any TV

This show made me a sad panda. I wanted to like it I really did but every passing minute I realized more and more how bad it was. And this is coming from a guy that loved Perfect Hair forever and Tom goes to the Mayor.

I give it a 3.0. I don't really care for the animations a whole lot but I perfer them over the TGTTM. Some of the jokes are funny, and I personally thought skillet is extremely funny.

This is basically my thoughts during the show...........

1. WOW that's an awesome opening! I see where the love of explosions comes from on ATHF.
2. This is the crappiest looking thing I have ever seen aired on television.
3. This is kind of funny as a joke...the non-sensical parts are..........non-sensical.
4. Laugh at the screaming sidekick
5. Shock that only 5 minutes have passed.
6. Unfathomable boredom the rest of the time.
7. Semi-redeeming speech by the shark boss that shows there was some sort of a plot to the episode.

I don't believe this is an actual tv show in production.
I think Maillero made this with about 5 bucks, played it around the office, they thought it was funny, decided to air it almost as a joke.

I mean with 96 episodes of squidbillies they can't possibly be focusing on this can they?????

Oh I know
Hence my fear of future 12oz mouse episodes getting made.
(Especially since Squidbilles was promoted 2 years ago and in that time we've only seen 34% of an actual episode. And the concept has changed 4 times. And they've most likely scrapped the whole thing

Boy I sure do miss Sealab. I guess that I will have to rely on DVD's and re airings of it to actually watch a show that MADE SENSE. This was utter crap. I just sat there staring at the tv for 11 minutes. The Squidbillies half finished pilot was 1000 times better than this garbage. Just because AS puts it out, doesn't mean that it is great.

The animation of this show made me think of what would result if you took Don Hertzfeldt, extracted the talent, beat him severely about the head, fed him crack, and then stuck a pencil in his hand.

Unfortunately, the writing was even worse.

I think its funny how Williams Street producers run with these "great ideas" and let them fall in the animation process. This isn't a cartoon, its a radio show with drawings. Seriously, it worked for Space Ghost becuase the dialogue was clever. It works for Aqua Teens because it stole the long pauses of silence from Space Ghost. Please give up on these crappy looking shows! I know you drew it in this style to make it unique and possibly as an anti-thesis to some of the lush animation in movies, but this isn't well done. Its not even trying. The writing is terrible, and the visuals are worse. The best thing about 12oz Mouse is the title. BLAMMED! 0pts

I thought it was okay, for a pilot. It didn't bore me and it caused a chuckle or two. It has some potential.

But not if they don't change the art style (yeah, right, "style"), and fast. It's crap. I guess they're trying to make some sort of point about "limited animation", but it is simply ugly, careless, lacking effort, and confusing. Sometimes you can't even tell where the characters are or what they're doing, and I don't see any way that can help the show or make it "unique", aside from the "uniqueness" of being something that nobody else would do because everybody else knows better. It's just plain bad. Can't they just, like, sit down for an hour and think up some unique -- though still crude -- designs? It's just bland and indistinguishable now.

Watching it a second time, and this time I actually enjoyed it. I have no idea why, honestly, but I couldn't stop laughing at that damn drugged out blue peanut cop-thing.

And I swear I wasn't drunk.

Did anyone else find it creepy in the first meeting between the shark and the mouse, that the clock slowly starts sliding diagonally down the wall?? 0_o;;;;;
. . . I liked the shark guy. "His name is Rectangley. You will recognise him by his rectangleyness." (or something to that effect). Shark guy is all I liked. Skitter gave me nightmares.

I will give this show two praises:
1) Skillet's schizophrenic nature... that was funny!
2*) It didn't bore me to death or make me groan.

* = in actuality, it did nothing for me

Sometimes I think my funny bone is broken because I don't watch all that many comedy shows. Even the few I do watch, I rarely laugh all the way through every week. 12 Oz. Mouse doesn't have bad material... it just has no material. Even though I already know about Williams Street's penchant for low-budget animation and tried to keep an open mind... you know what this show made me think?

Gee, maybe I should ask Williams Street for a job as an animator, because, despite the fact I have NO experience whatsoever, I can, at bare minimum, draw what this particular show calls 'standard animation.'

I loved ATHF. I watched Robot Chicken for a time, which had some laughs. I don't watch TGttM, but the one episode I did see of it a few weeks ago I at least laughed at the sheer stupidity of it. 12 Oz. Mouse doesn't make me laugh because it's funny. It doesn't make me laugh because it makes fun of pop culture. And it doesn't make me laugh because it's stupid. What does that leave?

Nothing. Including me... I'm flying the coop.

This gets a generous 4 out of 10, but in all reality, I am abandoning this show before the series comes around. For a show with a headbanging opening theme and random explosions, both which I would normally praise a show for, 12 Oz. Mouse is just plain disappointing. This is the first AS original that I have seen no potential whatsoever. Sealab had something, so did Brak, and Tom and Chicken. Mouse gave me nothing, so I'm not giving anything back in return.

Seriously, if this got the greenlight, they should just greenlight a Toon Zone's Adult Swim Forum show.
The entire show can be screenshots of some of the more ludicrous and rediculous posts, with voice actors overlaying it. God knows these smileys on the right are a lot better animated than that "show" was. And some of the fights the forum members have gotten into have gotten more laughs out of me than this.

I have to go with the "This isn't insultingly bad, but it has nothing to hold my interest" opinion. My guess is that the creators wanted to do something so out there and bizarre that people would like it by that alone, only so far it hasn't worked out that way.
