Wow, this has been a rough couple of weeks.

First I had to go to NJ because of estate-related problems (an executrix failing to perform her duties under the law)

then when I got back home, a Lightning strike blew out half of my tech.

I Lost:

1 P4 2.8Ghz Computer
2 Modem Cards
1 Surge "Protector" (I thought that a surge protector is supposed to protect things from surges.)
2 Satellite recievers
1 Satellite LNBN
1 Telephone
2 seperate telephone lines (Verizon is still working on those.)

and the light fixture inside of my refirgerator (How it damaged the light fixture but not the compressor is beyond me, but I'm happy it still runs.)

So this is really the first day in about three weeks that I've ben able to get a stable internet connection from home.... unfortunately it's over a modem.

so.... what'd I miss?

so.... what'd I miss? I live in a private house and it was hit by lightning at some point. Fortunately I had a huge lightninig surge protector. The surge fried the surge protector (and about 20 15amp fuses inside it) but my pc was fine. :D. I just had to replace a $50 surge protector.
Surge protectors vary by strength. I had a lightning protector. It had 20 15amp fuses in it. it was very powerfull.

Yeah, I should probably pick up a surge protector of some sort, but I never do.

Anyway, you should be able to get your insurance to pay for everything. Just a little heads-up, a friend of mine lost his home-built computer, which ran him about $1000, to lightning. His insurance said they would pay for it, and he went out and bought a brand new $3500 Alienware. He got the check in shortly after.

In conclusion, insurance companies don't know the difference between prices of home and company built computers. You should be able to go state of the art and have them cover it without problems. I just hope you have insurance.
