What was the word that Mugin said when he said "Send the toughest ****?"

Did the original translation have this much language in it? This is a lot of profanity for the first 8 minutes of the show.

Seiken Izumi

Strange...subbed version doesn't have any swearing in that line..

Mugen's line when he was talking outside was a "bull****" though...

I'm going to call Mugen's boss "Evil Frasier" from now on.

And I have no idea what 2 out of 4 of those language edits were either.

Geneon is adding swears where there aren't any to make it seem more mature I guess.

Send the toughest mofo/biyatch I'm guessing one or the other is the swear.

EDIT: The sub line is "you better get someone damn strong."

When Mugen was leaving he basically said an abbreviation of "mother ****er".

EDIT: Damn I'm slow tonight.

When Mugen was leaving he basically said an abbreviation of "mother ****er".
Well, in the subs, Mugen does tend to use "mofo"...

Mugens reason for coming back because no one chased him was good and Fuu's bizzare dice rolling was pretty funny. I guess this was the best episode yet

Nice way to censor the swears

nice the first time but over and over and over and I'd rather have the old mute or bleep :(

This was the best episode so far. Lots of cool and exciting stuff.

Woah, that seemed a little...fast. Maybe it's because the sped-up ED killed the mood. Oh well, so ends an alright two parter. Better ones are ahead.

Well....that was a rip-off ending...
I don't see how, even though the kid didn't die, and the father killed himself instead.

Lots of edits........lots of deaths.

The story was interesting, and the fights are awesome streaks of brilliance. The end of the episode was messed up though...

Still, overall enjoyable. 9/10.

Good episode, each of the characters are developing nicely. Fuu is pretty inventive, and Jin had some nice scenes. Fighting was amazing as always. I liked the characters in this two parter, as well. Better then the other one shots had been.

Pretty strong conclusion to a very excellent two-parter.

Liked the general feel of the episode, and I believe that this show holds a great deal of potential for even better things to come over the rest of the series.

I enjoyed Fuu's antics with her customer, as well as her ... overzealous ... dice throwing.

Solid episode all around.

Was that an instant death just before it ended?

A good episode no complaints from me. Editing out language with the scratching sound of a record creative sensoring I suppose. I give the episode an A.

Despite the first three episode's having left me somewhat cold, I'm glad I gave a somewhat uncharacteristic fourth chance. I think this is the first episode that I really liked. The story seemed more full and focused in this episode. The scene wherein Sosuke killed the thug was nicely played, it really hit home how out of his depth the kid was. The dice rolling scene was good too, especially Fuu's impressive, and presumably (within the context of the show) improvised, performance.

The ending was a little strange, I'll admit, but the way the scene played out just felt right to me.

**** out of *****

The way Fuu wore her outfit in the dice rolling reminded me of Auron from FFX.

Wasnt that a traditional way to wear an outfit for a certain type of person in Japan?

Edit: Found it. The design is sort of based on a ronin.

The edit sound was ok but I'd think it would be incredibly funny if for one episode they completely dubed out all of Mugin's dialog with it.

Good episode, and it started off with a nice fight. I thought Mugen's reaction after getting interrupted with his fight with Jin was great. He was really freaking out when those guys were about to kill those two. And the rest the episode was good, wrapping up the two parter.

I give Hellhounds for Hire (part 2) a B+.

Nice episode. We get to witness more creative edits...lots of them this time. I felt that this episode was stronger than the first part from last week. The ending...I was like, "wha...?" I gave it an A-.

The way Fuu wore her outfit in the dice rolling reminded me of Auron from FFX. I think Fuu's bare arm was more practical than symbolic here, never gamble with anyone wearing long loose sleeves.

So, whenever a character reveals that he feels bad for some past mistake, does that mean that Mugen will end up killing him? I wonder if that was the most “realistic” sword duel that has been shown so far in the series.

Dang, they had to edit "mofoe" out? That line always cracks me up.
They did leave one swear word in(sh*t), but the reason being is because Mugen whispers it, and the Yakuza boss with the glasses starts talking over him.

Even tho Sousuke's voice annoys the living hell outta me, this 2-parter seems to be one of the most entertaining from the series.

But the upcoming episodes are sure to be a lot better than this one ;)

Not necessarily. It doesn't become a thing if that's what you're asking.

May deaths occur, and yet it looks like some blood was edited out. It was good to see the Champloo gang get back together at the end of the episode though. I'll defintley keep watching.

Nevermind. Now I can.

I never really saw anything wrong with mofo. I guess since it's spelled out form means the same and all that, that's what got it scratch'd. Still seems kinda weird though.

Not bad. Definantly the best episode so far if only because of Fuu's amazing dice roll. The ending seemed pretty pointless to me, though, with Mugen killing that other bodyguard. It felt like a "we need another fight in the last ten seconds, let's kill someone else off" moment to me.

I'll put this series third behind Inuyasha and PA, at least for now.

It's because the bodyguard wanted to die, I thought it was a rather nice ending to that character. Instead of the normal cliche ending where the bodyguard would join back up with the kid, the bodyguard made ammends for his choice by getting killed by Mugen.

I wasn't crazy about part 1--it had some good moments but seemed buried under far too many cliches, manufactured situations and characters I didn't really care or was able to invest very much interest into.

One of the thing I've been enjoying about the show thus far was it's willingess not to follow the dull, stilted, action-deficient style of more classic samurai movies and, liberated from having to be historically correct, could pump up the action and pacing with more energy than you'd see in a garden-variety chambara flick. Unfortunately, the Part 1 went against that and slowed everything down far too much for my taste.

Part 2 begins with some long-wished-for frenetic action with more Mugen/Jin fighting, but having to drag around this plot just leadened the first half of this episode. The problem I found was that Fuu Mugen and Jin were basically supporting characters reduced to constantly reacting to whichever character they were paired off with. Part 1 at least tried to put this in a larger context, but this time it just felt like it was padded out with so. . .much. . .talking. . .about. . .obligation.

It seems like this could have been done in one part with only one character involving one of our trio. With them paired off one to one, unfortunately, everything got bogged down, and I kept waiting for the episode to kick into high gear, and it never really seemed to. The fight at the end was OK and had some nice touches, but it felt like an afterthought.

Both parts ended up being pretty blah for me, even visually, which even in slower points in other episodes I'd been able to enjoy. It wasn't outright awful or anything, but this two-parter felt far too conventional for a show so trangressive and interesting. It wasn't bad enough to hate, it just left me cold and indiffrent. Perhaps next week's will get things back on track B-

I actually just bought all three DVDs released so far for Samurai Champloo. But not to overdo it, I'll be watching the episodes as they are shown on Adult Swim, but unedited on DVD. ;) The episode was decent, but Hellhounds for Hire just didn't have that same impact the first two episodes had. Nonetheless, Mugen's laid-back, sort of badass attitude kept me smiling, and the action scenes still kept me excited.

So all in all I give Hellhounds for Hire (Part 2) a B+.

Champloo is a good series, one that keeps holding my interest because of its fascinating characters. Hellhounds for Hire worked because of them. Fuu still remains my favorite of the 3 principles, and is probably the most underrated. (^_*)

Between crazy little Fuu, the son trying everything to save his sister (or was it mother... I forget), and Mugen finding creative ways to slice people up, this was an enjoyable little romp.

"Hellhounds for Hire, Part 2" earned an 8.5.
