Figured this would be a good place to ask. Lately, I've been getting strange lines at the top of my monitor. They seem to mesh with the icons placed up there. I thought it was a monitor refresh problem, but that didn't solve anything.
My monitor is a few years old, though, and constantly on, so I'm guessing that it's just a sign to get a new monitor. I actually don't mind that, I'm only hoping that it isn't a more serious problem, like my hard drive thinking about taking a dirt nap. Any suggestions?

PC Tech here: See if your monitor VGA wire didn't dislodge a bit from your PC, if its not the case, It can very well be your monitor. The other thing is your video/graphics card. It can become bad from the heat or just the age.
BTW what monitor do you have, a CRT or a LCD TFT Active Matrix.

"Could it be... Satan?"
It could also be interference from another item, but I don't think that could cause a permanent line across the top. Solar is pretty much right.
Also, he said the monitor was a few years old and LCD's were very expensive a few years back, so my guess is it's a CRT.

I don't know, but I can tell you that the video card is a GeForce card.

I don't know, but I can tell you that the video card is a GeForce card. A CRT monitor is a tv sized monitor, an LCD TFT Active Matrix is a flat panel monitor. As for the videocard, it doesn't matter if its Nvidia GeForce or ATI Radeon, they all brake.
