Hi there. OK, I don't know if this topic has been adressed already, but I'm putting it in the Boomerang rather then general cause I want to limit this to a specific catagory:

I got this idea from watching an TV Land special where they counted down a list of top ten characters that you love to hate. In other words, characters that are clearly vicious, *****y, horrid to others....yet for some reason are so endearing you have to just love them every time they come on the screen. #1 was Louie De Palma from 'Taxi', and on the list was Alexis Colby, J.R. Ewing, George Jefferson, and Archie Bunker.

So then I thought, this can also apply to classic TV. I'm not gonna ask for a top ten list, but if there WERE, which Classic (note: Classic) cartoon charatcer would you vote for #1?

My vote: Alexandra Cabot (Josie And The Pussycats)

Alexandra tops this list cause she's could be the love child of J.R. Ewing and Alexis Carrington Colby. She's rich and spoiled, she's unbelieveably *****y, and like the book "Saturday Morning Fever" put it (a good book, but I recommend skip the chapter about Scooby) man-hungry by all means. Constantly after Josie's man, in everyone's face, making all kinds of mistakes then bragging she NEVER did. She couldn't stand the Pussycats, there was no real reason for to to BE there except as an unnessecary tag-along, always wanted to be the Lead Singer but never seeming to realize she was horrible, scheming to take Allan away from Josie, but often getting the band in trouble because of it, completely self-centered by all means...face it, Alexis was BASED on Alexandra.

Yet, Alexandra was somehow enduring (hey, she and Valerie were my favorite characters!). You can see that in some eps she DID care for her brother as she was seen sometimes defending him, even though she put him down herself. She may have just been lonely and craving attention which probably lead to her lust for Allan. (face it, she can do MUCH better than HIM!) It sems, if you look at some eps carefully she was trying to get attention when she was being ignored.
Face, it, Alexandra did add spice to the program. Without her, the show would have been bland. She and Sebastian DID provide comic relief! I always imagined a spinoff in which Valerie would see what dunderheads Josie and Melody were, quit the band to go solo, Alexandra would be HER manager, and it would kinda be a 'Thelma And Louise' deal. Now THAT'S a show! :)

So, to wrap up. Alexandra Cabot, #1 on my list of 'Classic TV Characters We Love To Hate!' As the T.V. Guide once put it while describing Alexis...she was man-hungry, *****y, self-centered..we loved her!

So, what would be your #1? Only rules are that is has to be a classic TV character, a main menber of the cast (no villian one-shot deals) and so horrible you just want to hate them...but they make the show, so you can't.
What's yours?

For me, it would be Dick Dastardly and Muttley of The Wacky Races. If these guys had any common sense, they would have stayed in their car and raced straight to the finish line and likely would have won the majority of the races since the Mean Machine looked like the only car fast enough to compete. But true to their rotten core, they get out every two minutes to pull off some form of cheat tactic in their numerous failed efforts to stop the other drivers as their diabolical deeds always manage to backfire on them. And as usual, they get left behind as the other racers finish well ahead of them, for the two always wound up in last place. The terrible twosome also starred in Dastardly and Muttley in their Flying Machines where they couldn't even catch one measley messenger pigeon no matter how many weird looking planes they created. Dastardly and Muttley were also featued in the Wacky Races redux titled Fender Bender 500 which was one of the cartoon series featued in an early morning live-action syndicated kids' show in the 90's called Wake, Rattle, and Roll. The race theme was the same, but the segments were about 5-6 minutes long and D&M raced against the more famous H-B stars like Yogi Bear and Boo Boo, Huckleberry Hound and Snaglepuss, QuickDraw McGraw and Baba Looey, Pixie and Dixie, Augie Doggie and Doggie Daddy, Top Cat and Choo Choo, and Winnie Witch and her black cat. The cheating twosome actually get their due in this series as they actually did win a couple of the races, though the prizes they were awarded left much to be desired. :p But of course, these shows certainly would not have been interesting without Dick and Muttley. :)

:cool:Fred Flintstone when he was battling with barney in the early episodes (though that caused the nominal first, SWIMMING POOL, intended for Sept.30,1960,to be replaced with FLINTSTONE FLYER!), and your choice of Alexandra Cabot was a good one.

How About Cosmo Spacely from The Jetsons!

He always fires George when things go bad, and then promises him a position as vice president (which he didn't get until 1990 in Jetsons: The Movie). This was a boss you didn't want to work for (ha, ha)

I used to despise Snagglepuss mostly because he was ridiculous, an embarassment to all large cats in the wild. I remember saying that if he were a real living creature and was seen on the street, he would've been beaten up in a flash.

Things are different now.

Yankee Doodle Piegon- I wish Dick Dastardly and Muttley would catch the piegion and eat him.

Yakky Doodle, annoying, whiny little duck who always had to be bailed out by a big mean bulldog. I always wanted to see Fibber Fox eat that stupid duck and felt sorry for the fox when he took a beating from that dog.

Scooby Doo. I mean everyone thought I was crazy for liking Pokemon, but where's the appeal in him?
