From comingsoon.net...

TheArnoldFans.com (http://www.thearnoldfans.com/news/871.htm) is reporting they have confirmed an earlier report (http://www.superherohype.com/news/sincitynews.php?id=2917) that Sin City director Robert Rodriguez has been tapped by Warner Bros (http://www.comingsoon.net/news/topnews.php?id=9394#). Pictures to helm a new version of Conan. The studio is no longer going with Conan the Barbarian director John Milius for the project. Milius was developing a film (http://www.comingsoon.net/news/topnews.php?id=9394#) titled King Conan: Crown of Iron.

The site adds that if Rodriguez can get Arnold Schwarzenegger (http://www.comingsoon.net/news/topnews.php?id=9394#) to star in the film, the project would still be "King Conan" but would have a new script. If Schwarzenegger is not available, you can expect an all new Conan.

Rodriguez has also directed the "Spy Kids" trilogy, Desperado, From Dusk Till Dawn and Once Upon a Time in Mexico (http://www.comingsoon.net/news/topnews.php?id=9394#). This summer he's bringing The Adventures of Shark Boy & Lava Girl in 3-D (http://www.comingsoon.net/films.php?id=7476) to the big screen (http://www.comingsoon.net/news/topnews.php?id=9394#), for which you can now view the trailer at Moviefone (http://movies.channel.aol.com/movie/main.adp?tab=main&mid=19470).
This goes with an earlier report this week from IGN Filmforce about John Milius...

Writer-director John Milius recently appeared on G4TV (http://www.g4tv.com/attackoftheshow/features/51562/Ten_Minutes_with_John_Milius.html) to discuss his stab at writing the video game Medal of Honor: European Assault (http://cube.ign.com/objects/694/694970.html). At the end of the interview, Milius was asked about the long-in-development sequel, King Conan: Crown of Iron (http://filmforce.ign.com/moremovies/objects/34116.html). Here's what he had to say about its status:

"Well, King Conan is pretty well on hold. Warner Brothers decided they're going to do their own version of whatever they want to do with Conan," Milius explained.

"They've sort of put it in deep, deep freeze. I don't know. You'll have to talk to Warner Brothers and ask them what their wisdom is. They'll probably do an animated, kid-friendly Conan."

Thanks to Comics2Film (http://www.comics2film.com/FanFrame.php?f_id=12877) for the heads-up!

Man, it seems like forever since all this new Conan movie talk has gone on. But when it comes right down to it, the main reason it hasn't gotten made already has been because of Schwarzenegger. Not because he didn't want to because he did want to do it, but because well, timing has never been good for him lately.

I don't know where Rodriguez is going to find an actor that was built like Arnold back in the day and be able to act believeably. Granted Arnold wasn't the best actor at the early time in his career, but it was enough to be sold. I don't know why I have this feeling though that a certain WWE wrestler (Triple H) is going to be asked to do it. He was considered at one point according to him when John Milius was going to do it. If not playing Conan himself, Triple H or The Rock was talked about to play Conan's son. They both have movie credits to their names now. The Rock in starring roles and Triple H in Blade: Trinity. Granted him and Ryan Reynolds stole that movie for me.

At least Dark Horse Comics Conan comic is really good. For those wanting their Conan fix, it's the best way.

I suppose it will probably go to the Rock if they can't get Arnold. The Scorpion King did $140 million, and there's a "changing of the guard" scene in The Rundown between Arnold and the Rock.

It doesn't sound too promising. I was fine without Arnold, but to not have John Milius do it, when it's pretty evident he's keen on doing King Conan.. just doesn't sit well with me.

I think they should get someone with acting chops to do it. Arnold is not a TERRIBLE actor, but he's become too kitschy. They should get an unknown. They don't even need to get a really bulky actor to do it, just somewhat who's muscular and fit, like Barry Windsor Smith or Neal Adams drew him.

I've been interested in seeing a new Conan movie, but I'd like to see one that gets respected for once.
