Hmmm, interesting, but did anyone actually doubt that there was a military installation on Groom Lake? I thought most people accepted that as a fact. Still, awesome pics!

I know why they are allowing this to stay, but I won't get into it.

The Area 51 stuff is cool, but the link to Google's satellite system is even more neat. I had no idea Google had such extensive satellite photography resources. It's a great way to kill some time.

Google's satellite system is so extensive, you'll be able to locate any place on Earth within a few years. In fact, you'd be suprised what you can zoom in and out on now -- for example, switch to Satellite mode, zoom out all the way, and try going across the Atlantic or Pacific Oceans. Yep, the rest of the planet is there! It's just not in Map mode yet. :) (Map mode is still U.S. only, but Google is working on changing that. It'll take several years of hard work though before the rest of the planet is mapped out in the detail that the U.S. is.)
I don't think the U.S. military is going to bother to force Google Maps to take out the Area 51 satellite photos. First, they're already all over the Internet anyway, and second, even zoomed in at a maximum, they don't reveal any secrets -- just buildings and airstrips. (Yawn.) Besides, everyone knows that a big gray area on any road map means "government installation." So, nothing new is revealed through Google Maps.

Technology is getting pretty scary. Next thing you know they are going to have satilites capable of looking through your roof. :P

The scary thing is..Area 51 is a cover-up of its own, even though it exists...*smirks, and teleports away*

Hehe, I've heard that as well! This story goes something like this: Area 51 was, at one time, the top-secret U.S. military installation; but, as word got out about its existence in the 1970's, the U.S. military built a new top-secret installation in rural central Utah, and moved all their operations there; they only let Area 51 simmer the public interest as a red herring now. :D If that's the case, then the buildings and airstrips in those satellite photos are bare, and have been cleaned out, since the 1970's most likely. The U.S. government, smartly, continues to hire a private security force to guard an abandoned installation, to keep the public looking at the wrong place. Brilliant! :p And very likely true, IMO. Why else would a private security force be guarding a top-secret U.S. government installation?
Using Google Satellite Maps again, go to Utah, then start searching SW of the Salt Lake City metro area, on the Utah/Nevada border...

Believe it or not... it's actually in Oregon. Or at least 1 base is there, there might be another in Utah. I've never been there so I can't say.

Searchable satellite image maps have been around before, right? I mean, I know I was looking around on sites like these for payphones on request by AIs from the future back in September/October, and used sites like this. Granted, Google's images are much nicer, but I don't think this guy has found anything actually exciting. If there was actually anything amazing to be found, I think someone would've done it awhile ago.
Like, those green circle things? Those show up all over then you try to look around my hometown of Yakima, WA. I'm not sure what the heck they are, but they're nothing special. They seem to show up when they don't have good images of that area.
EDIT: Also, the guy knows these aren't realtime, right?

You can't make this stuff up!

Yeah that's exactly what they are. Funny thing is a lot of conspiracy theorists see those on satelite images and go nuts speculating as to what they are...like OMG FLYING SAUCERS!
Too bad the truth is much much much more mundane.

Heh many still refuse to beleave that roswell really was just a protype weatherballon project....even though they gave all the information to the project to the public back in the 90's...

I would think its obvious that the images are a little older or whenever they re-shoot I guess maybe every year or so. This is mostly just a joke/fluff kind of thing. He doesn't strike me as a tinfoil hatter.

True, but the navigation system isn't as cool. And Terraserver isn't in color... at least, not to the best of my recollection. I admittedly haven't used it since sophomore year in high school, so my memory may be a bit faulty.
I thought Area 51 was a McDonald's.:confused:No, the McDonalds came afterwards.

I was actually late to my axon that day! Luckily another member of the local group got there in time, and let her know I showed up. Melissa wasn't too happy with me, though. :p
