As you may or may not know, I practice martial arts. Two weeks ago, after a long practice session, my right elbow started hurting. I shruged it off for a day or two, but it continued to hurt. Everyday it got (and still does get) worse. I asked a friend off mine who is a doctor, and he said it was tennis elbow or "epicondalidis" (I probably spelled it wrong). He told me that I should finnish what I had planed for the month (two demos and my testing), and stop useing my right arm for anything. I can still teach, and use my left arm and legs, but I was just starting to learn how to use a Bo staff. Plus, I can't use my sword, or practice forms.

It is killing me that I can't practice what I love doing to my full extent. I can only pray that my elbow quits hurting soon. Even if the tennis elbow stops, I can't practice like I previously did, or it will start again.

So, has anyone else here had to quit doing something you love for long periods of time?

Yes, tennis elbow, and currently a leg problem...The tennis elbow is simply a nerve, which will heal over a long period of time, perphaps months, if allowed to.. Since I am older, the nerve in my leg will take longer, but it too will heal if I do the correct exercizes, and do not reinjure it..I miss my fast walking in the walking center, as much as you miss the martial arts.( I can stiill walk slowly with some minor pain, doc said ok) .believe me..I understand what you are feeling, let the arm heal, please..if you do not..you may cause severe injury...your doctor is right..good luck Stuart

I haven't played video games for four months. Does that count?

Had to give up playing the French Horn after high school. Couldn't justify renting or buying one (I'd rented one from the school) as I wasn't going to pursue a music career (I was never good enough for that anyway).

I miss making music though. I listen for a French Horn in every orchestral piece I ever hear now.

Not anything in particular. Well, it kind of hard to stop doing something you love when you don't know if you love anything in the first place.

For a while, yes. Going blind will do that to you...

But then, I said to Heck with that attitude. Why give up the things I love like computing, toons, writing, Hot Wheels, DVD's, and daily life just becuse my eyes are messed up?
