Or maybe this will be like "Rounouni Hamtaro" a few years back, and they'll start Futurama after the commercial break. It'll be "Ghost in the Future" :D

Meh, decent ratings for the anime combo, though I wish GitS would consistently break 400K...

I hope it wins. Though they should've provided a half-hour Case Closed/Lupin choice.

I thought that was quite the interesting part. 18-34 isn't even the main demographic CN targets (now that Adult Swim is a "separate" network), yet it still ranks about #6 out of all cable networks!

I'd like to see the last shelter of classic animation on a mainstream network stay right where it is, where it can be appreciated by actual adults. Adult Swim bowing to the 12-17 demographic who boos this decision would quite possibly be their dumbest move, and I'll probably stop watching the block if they actually pull the shows just to appease those whiners, who don't even watch Adult Swim at 5 AM. I don't care if it sounds callous. I'm not losing a show of rare, some-unreleased cartoons, that's been off the air for 3 years, just so people can watch episodes of Case Closed that have only been off the air for 6 months and can be bought on DVD.

But that poll probably is a joke anyway so it doesn't matter.

I actually agree with that. Unfortunately I don't think not voting in the poll is going to help that happen. Hopefully the poll is just some idea they are trying and in that case hopefully they won't actually use the winner in that slot. Considering Popeye is pulling ratings as good as the late runs of the anime shows anyways, it isn't like they have any ratings issues to worry about by leaving the classics on in that slot (if they even care much about ratings at that hour).

What I'd most like to see happen is for them to revamp the last few hours of Adult Swim, instead of just continuing to rerun the first few hours. They could replace the night's second run of Trigun/Big O with Case Closed/Lupin/Gigantor, etc. and then leave the classics hour in place. That way everybody's happy (or at least more people).

just so people can watch episodes of Case Closed that have only been off the air for 6 months and can be bought on DVD.As you mentioned, it is not very likely Adult Swim would actually make any changes based off the poll. All Case Closed winning would do is merely be a sign of the amount of support the show has and maybe keep it fresh on people's minds, which is the only reason I want it to win, to get something out of an otherwise useless poll.

I want 5AM to remain classic cartoons as well.. but the episodes Adult Swim aired of Case Closed cannot be purchased on DVD (except the first 4 episodes), and FUNi has no plans to put those out on DVD anytime soon either.

But that poll probably is a joke anyway so it doesn't matter. You still can't buy DVDs of Case Closed episodes that ran on Adult Swim except the season one/volume one DVD that has been out for ages. But, it would be a shame to lose a classic animation block when all AS needs to do is to give the Trigun repeats a rest.

You can also expect to see Spike TV fall a bit later this year when they lose one of cable's highest rated programs to USA.I doubt those numbers would change. Those numbers probably start at 11, right when AS starts and Raw is over. Even with Adult Swim's rise in popularity and WWE's decline, Raw is still one of, if not the, highest rated shows on cable.

And how does Adult Swim beat Cartoon Network? Even with the split, they're still not on at the same time.

Or, being the dope I am, I just completely misinterpreted the whole thing which is quite likely.

From what I understand the ratings arent just 11-5. Its the average of all hours in which the station airs shows. Which would explain why CN and AS are on the same list. And if that is true Spike will take a big hit by the loss of Raw.

Zyzzybalubah
04-04-2005, 03:18 AM
Wow for the gigantic sized ratings that Sunday night! The question remains.... will these ratings remain consistent for the changes made this week? (2nd Family Guy removed with replacements of ATHF and Tom.) I hope so!

As for the poll, don't know if it will matter. I remember when Tecmo held a poll to see what system they should bring the new Ninja Gaiden title for and Gamecube was the winner... of course it didn't end up on there though. :p

Back on topic though, I wouldn't be as upset as others if the classic animated shows left but I think they should just stay just to have them on for the hardcore fans of those programs. Like others said, we don't need ALL the repeat airings. I don't think it would hurt if we got rid of a second Family Guy and Futurama airing in order to let to other shows have a shot on air (whether it's classic anime, possible short series anime that they could pick up, >>>>SPACE GHOST C2C<<<<, you name it.) If not, oh well.

Also way to go Space Ghost and Moxy!!! :D ;)

And if that is true Spike will take a big hit by the loss of Raw.What he said. Those are all total day averages. Adult Swim and Nick at Nite are sort of cheating because AS is on 7 hours a day, Nick at Nite's on 9, thus giving them a smaller number of hours to average together, while other networks like TNT or TBS are on 24 hours a day. (other exceptions include Spike TV being on 18 hours and Comedy Central being on 21 hours)

Court TV is following this trend too by doing a Nielsen split of their own. Unlike Adult Swim/Cartoon Network or Nickelodeon/Nick at Nite, whose splits made sense due to different target audiences, Court TV's split just seems retarded.

Frankly, I'm not a big fan of Popeye personally, but I absolutely love Toon Heads/The Bob Clampett show. I'd say 5 for Lupin and 5:30 for TH/Clampett. Two old-schools together for those who can appreciate it at the time.

BACK ON TOPIC:

Getting rid of the classics would be silly when they could always get rid of another repeat, like the 2nd airings of Inuyasha, Trigun, or Big O. HELL, they could replace all the 2nd airings with older WS shows and misc. anime.

HOW big of ratings does the 2nd airings of FG and Futurama at 2:00-3:00 get with insominacs anyway? For that matter, what's the ratings of the FIRST airing of Trigun, since they're comparing Popeye to it? I can see it doing better at 1:00 then something like WR or WHR, but that is not really saying much (Although CB has been around since Night 1, but then again that's a WS favorite.). I can see nostalgic adult insominacs and hard core animation fans staying up through the night by choice or forced to, or waking up at 5:00, but REALLY, how much ratings does 2:00-6:00 get? It DEFINATELY adds when looking at AS's 7 hour network ratings, but I think we can at least replace the 4:00-5:00 showings of TG and Big O and not "lose" any ratings but gain a little due to anime fans/nerds/whatever.

Exactly. ATHF is doing great at that slot, it just doesn't make any sense. Birdman is great and I love it, but as far as I know there's just not enough episodes of it. ATHF has enough episodes and has proven to be a fan favorite. Any chances of that show being able to go into the opening weekday hour (i.e. Futurama/ATHF or Family/ATHF?) I don't know how successful SGC2C would be (couldn't be that bad) but they have more than enough episodes to air on weeknights!

It's possible that it got poor ratings. Yes, it sounds stupid, because it's so early in the morning and such, but maybe AS wanted to at least get a little bit better then abysmal for those slots. Who knows, really.

Well, I wonder what ratings Time Squad and Captain Planet got in the 18-34 demographics? You know, as much as I wanted Case Closed back, I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do with a 5 in the morning airing...

couldn't they have just put Lupin on over popeye and left that last half hour open to classic fans? In all honesty, I'd of loved to watch some classic Warner Brothers animation and learn up on the trivia and stories behind those cartoons. I LOVE TOONHEADS. =/

but nope. CC again. Wee...that means I can get to sleep earlier and not miss Japanese class. Cool.

Did anyone else notice the short bespectacled jacket and bow-tie wearing Japanese detective pig Motto chasing the Phantom during one of the recent Clampett shorts? Heh, was that a foreshadowing of the unfortunate change in schedule?

WHY CAN'T THEY GET RID OF THE FREAKING ENCORE AIRINGS, MOVE THE 5AM Block to 2AM, AND THEN AIR THREE HOURS OF OTHER PROGRAMMING, INCLUDING CLASSICS?

Jesus Christ.
Who cares? No one's up.

Who cares? No one's up.
So why not air differing programming rather than those stupid encores?

The situation isn't now or will it be in the future up for disclosure either on the forums or via PM. It was a matter that was handled between LFV and the moderation staff and as per all former members we are not at liberty to discuss it any further. At this point I am really going to have to draw the line on further disccusion about this, please let's all just drop the topic.

All that said, LFV was awesome member and a valued poster here, so it goes without saying that he will be missed. Thanks, gotcha!

So long LivingFruitVirus. Keep it real.
