This isn't an April Fool's Day thing, I just happened to learn about it very recently. It's a mod for Jedi Academy (Jedi Knight II 2, or Dark Forces II 3, or something) that will have every level from Dark Forces. Of course it'll have recreations of all the original weapons and everything, too. Everything. Even the cutscenes and music. Basically the only thing that seems to be missing is the Automap.

I played the demo a few days ago... Man, I was in gamer Heaven that day. They're doing an amazing job with this. The only area that's lacking is the cutscenes and a few of the voice acting parts, and a few bugs that'll probably be worked out later, but I can't complain. Besides, outside of the parts with characters talking, the cutscenes are really well-done, more than I would've expected. The briefings are redone too, in nice high-res 2D, and the voice-overs there actually sound professional.
And I can't tell you how pleased I am with the music. That's really important to me -- it just wouldn't be complete without it. It's still synthesized, of course, but it sounds great. (It doesn't run through your computer's MIDI, it's recorded from some professional-quality synthesizer.) It really takes me back to the days where LucasArts wasn't as lazy as they are now -- the days when they bothered making original scores for their Star Wars games instead of just taking the easy way out and ripping stuff from the movie soundtracks.
I'm somehow still getting stuck on Anoat city, though.
