Just curious as to why CN doesn't show the old 80's show like GI Joe, Thundercats, He-man, Transformers G-1, She Ra.....and so on.

Do they show them at odd hours or have they just stopped showing these shows all together? If they did, then why did they stop showing them?

Sorry if this is a stupid question but I was just wondering....

Well, after CN became a "competitive kids channel" last June, shows that were 5 years or older went down the drain, because little kids don't like old cartoons. It all has to do with getting enough ratings for the network.

Technically, the only shows you listed that CN has the righs to are G.I. Joe and Thundercats.

Anyway, yea, it's mostly about ratings (and to generate interest in Boomerang). When Robotech came back to the weekday lineup during the TOM1 era, the ratings bombed.

Tis a shame, but those execs in big suits push older stuff back to make way for new (and arguably better) toons to have time on their channels. It's not just for CN, it's for every channel who wants to compete in ratings wars.

Yeah I guess I kind of figured that was what happened? But didn't they used to show them in the middle of the nite?

Who has the rights to Transformers G1?

I'd just like to see Thundercats again, I haven't seen that in years.

G.I. Joe used to be on the final Toonami Midnight Run, and then on SVES. but now it's on Boomerang's Boomeraction block.

Hasbro does, just like anything and everything Transformers.

There's a 3-disc Boxset coming this year.

The main reason they don't show these older shows are numbers. If an old show did very well in ratings, they'd rerun it into infinity, no questions asked. The problem is that Cartoon Network has a harder time competiting for advertising dollars when their offerings are old looking, lack product promotion, and mainly cater to an audience's taste ten+ years beyond the intended demographic. The only good thing about all this is that most shows are becoming avaliable on DVD, so you'll never have to miss them too much.

I always like to think that bringing in new shows actually helps things in the long run. Imagine if you were a kid, and all of the shows you watched were the ones your parents watched, we'd never get new stuff. Imagine Cartoon Network without ever having Dexter or Powerpuff Girls.

That cool news on the Thundercat box set, I didn't know about that

It would look pretty bad next to all the shows on cartoon network right now. Time has not treated that show well visually, or pretty much any of the cartoons from the 80s.

kinda sad, my little bro who grew up watching pokemon and all the other butchered anime half the time, finally discovered tiny toons, invader zim, and talespin.

Fvck 80s cartoons. 30s through 50s cartoons are the true classics.

CN knows that ignorant little kids hate 80's shows. Kids today want retarded stupid J-pop shows...(guess what show I hate!)

Evil CN! They should show what they think is bad for business! How dare they look out for their best interests!

You could also add the fact the majority of the 80's toons mentioned in the subject title are based on toys and action figures. CN and Boomerang certainly don't want to be known for advertising those that are pretty much outdated. And also these shows got pretty much ridiculed on VH1's "I Love the 80's" and other bad nostalga trip shows. :o
