View Full Version : Nudity in God Of War: Taboo Finally Broken?

First of all, I've played God Of War. My gosh, this is the sickest game ever! Destructive fighting moves, some wicked ideas like the temple at the back of a Titan, & so on. But what's really interesting it's that the game has topless women! And there's all that good gameplay to back that up!
So have we done it? Have we finally broken the taboo of putting nudity in console gaming? Will other console games follow GoW's footsteps? Or are we still way behind?
Exploitative or not, I admire the creators for having the balls for putting nude women in the GoW, a console game of all places! After years of the lack of it in M-Rated games like Fear Effect, we finally get to see some in a console game.

I really don't see what's wrong with nudity in a M rated game.
If it was E rated, then that's a different story.

Yeah, it's not as if 5 year-olds are going to be playing this (that is if their parents actually look and care at the guidance labels... mine don't). If it's in an M rated game, then it's OK. Although there'll probably be people against it, complaining that it'll warp the minds of those who play it and stuff...

I admire the creators for having the balls for putting nude women in the GoWI am conflicted by your choice of sexual diction!
But anyway, I don't think this is a first for an M-rated game.

It really depends on the context of the nudity. If it's of a sexual nature then it's probably in there just for shock and erm...a reason to keep playing.
It's really no big deal anymore--as sad as that is...

Lots of Greek art depitcs topless women, so I'm willing to accept this as part of the surrealitiy.
Also, I need to buy this game.

God of War's nudity for the most part is for historical accuracy since most Greek women walked around topless and Davids Jaffe also said he wanted the monsters to appear more like wild animals hince why you seee Medussa's with exposed breasts. Originally the cyclops was going to have a penis, but that was ultimately taken off.
My only gripe with God of War is that it ends and when it ends you are left wanting more, but there is a teaser trailer for a sequel that you unlock. :D

Most ancient Greek women didn't walk around topless.

Most ancient Greek women didn't walk around topless. Some even cut off their right breast so they could shoot a bow and arrow better

I'm pretty sure that comes from a myth about the amazon.

So why are you presenting it as if it was a fact when it is a myth?

I didn't even know it was taboo. Shining Force II had nudity, but it was 16-bit so you couldn't really make out much.

Past M-rated console games like GTA3, Fear Effect, Dead To Rights and so on never depict nudity (if some does, mostly covered strategically covered by things like long hair & so on) so this should be a big deal.
Is nudity worse than the violence...Think about it...Adult nudity, seen by adults, or near adults...is that really worse than the violence in these games? Which is worse? Which Taboo should rally never be broken...?

It's sad to think of parents who would be fine with the level of violence in that game but get pissed off by artistic nudidty.

But anyway, I don't think this is a first for an M-rated game.Yea,in one point in "GTA: Vice City" a lady has nother but paint (or tattoo's) over,well...,you get the point,Vice city has a topless woman, and its M- rated,so this isn't a first. That being said,my mom knows about the nudity, and probably wants me to get rid of Vice city, good for her as my copy is scratched to the poing it wont work, and with "San Andreas" I dont plan on getting Vice city again.:D

Ouch... that must've hurt.:D
Anyway, like other people have said, this isn't the first time it's happened, nor is it just for shock value, so I don't see any controversy, or a huge problem Although soccer moms will probably complain, but then again they're soccer moms- they'll find reasons to complain about any M-rated game. This isn't like BMX XXX (or whatever it was called) which was based entirely after nudity and crude humor. Then again, most people say that game sucked (I never played it), and it bombed, too.

Eh I don't really see it as a big deal. To me it's no diffrent thang having nudity in an R rated movie. A game like GOW is violent and for adults and if they decide to put nudity in thats fine. Even though it's funny to think back to the Valkyrie Wild controversy and BMX XXX and the stinks people raised about those.

It is no big deal....nudity in Europe, has been accepted for years, they are very conscious about the unnecessary violence in films, entertainment, etc...Maybe we here in the U.S.A. got it wrong. You can have a great action game, without all the ugly and graffic gore and violence....
Sure. some violence, but to the extent that it exists? Is it necessary? Yea, it is just a game, but many are addicted to these games, and like the computer, an individual needs control and discipline to deal with it correctly

Leisure Suit larry, Magna cum Laude had toplessness and a nude man wearing a sock (guess where)
BMX XXX sucked so hard! I stopped playing after I glitched the game and fell thru the floor twice in the course of 10 minutes.

I guess the standards in graphics are decent enough to make nutidy not look daft now (BMX XXX not included, that was a pile of ****).

This thread reminds me of that episode of South Park when the boys are playing with ninja weapons and Kenny throws a throwing star in Butters' eye.
At the end, the town isn't in an uproar over the violence, but rather over the fact that, toward the end of the episode, Cartman walked across the town auction stage naked.
"Dude, I guess grownups don't care about violence when there's sex stuff to worry about!" :anime:

Well, it is a GREAT step in the right direction in terms of creative freedom...and I like boobies :). In all seriousness, this is a very progressive game and will pave the way for more creative freedom in games.
