I dunno if anyone here plays this game but I'll just make this thread if there are some people who play Maple Story.
Maple Story is a thriving game in Korea. However, in the English version it hasn't reached its full potential. It's a Massively Multiplayer RPG. There are always new patches coming out and new updates on it. Soon it will be be at the same height as the Korean version.
The graphics are pretty good. You get to explore different islands. So far there are only three that I know of. Maple Island, Victoria Island, and some other one I forgot the name of. You could explore different environments from the highlands to the forest from the city to the prairies.
I like the gameplay but it's pretty slow leveling up. You move around with the arrow keys and jump with the Alt button and attack with the Ctrl button. You press Z to pick up items. Explore and attack monsters. There are some interesting monsters throughout the game. I have only encontered evil snails, slimes, moving stumps, and evil mushrooms. Some may look cute, but some may look scary. Once you reach level 10 you could go to Victoria Island and pick the job you want to pursue. There are 4 paths that you could take: bowman, thief, magician, and warrior. They each have their pros and cons. Like the bowman and magician are easier to use to level up and attack quicker but they must keep their MP up. Warrior and thief are harder to level up because their weapons are not ranged (except for the theif when using shurikens). Warriors have good stamina and could withstand mighty blows from stronger monsters and they have a stronger attack. Through leveling up and requirements, you'll be able to have job advancements and create your character in a unique way. There are also quests you could complete and not always train and level up all the time. They require to have certain items be brought to a certain someone. In exchange for your items, that person would give you experience points and some other item like a silver shield.
The sound is so-so. I don't really pay attention to the music. The music changes depending on which place you go.
I made this thread sorta late because the signups for the game are now closed as of March 23, 2005. Sooner or later they will be opened up again. So just keep a a watch on the official website: www.mapleglobal.com (http://www.mapleglobal.com).
