Nice attention to detail in the animation - notice how the cloud shadows alter the daylight while Motoko and Togusa are on the roof talking.

Alright! A complex episode, just what I've been waiting for.
They finally acknowledge that the Laughing Man phrase is from Catcher in the Rye. Bout time...

Did Togusa die!? How come the people walking by just ignored him?
The action at the end was good, and this whole thing with the incurable disease is interesting enough. Poor Togusa though!

As for Togusa: Is he dead? I hate to say this, but while I like most of the characters, him, Batou, and the Tachikawas actually gave you a REASON to like them! We NEED him!

Oh man, that last scene was something. Great episode. I completely missed last week's episode so it was nice seeing another "Complex" episode. I loved the scene when Togasa jumped out of the window. That was krazy! Anyway, there is NO way Togasa died. That would be even crazier than people jumping out of windows. 5 stars

Why do they always pick on Togusa? Why not Batou or the Major? They could try ruining that new set of jeans she's acquired.

I know what you mean. It's probably cause he's the closest to being human. :crying:

...Did they just kill off Togusa? Argh! I'll be so angry if that's the case. He's (literally and figuratively) the most human character on the show.
But, besides that, interesting episode. I like how they're building on the J.D Salinger references, instead of randomly throwing the quotes out there as something "kewl."

We don't even know if he's dead yet. Oh wow, what if they had to cyberize him so he'd survive. That'd be pretty interesting. I wonder how Togusa would react to that....

Eh Togysa still has cyberisations, but not cyborg limbs and body parts like Batou or the Major...
He was also shot in the chest and remember, they got organ pigs

Yeah, that's what I meant. It's unfortunate that nobody is giving him a hand.
Does anybody else think that his wife seems kind of....artificial? I mean, just watching the today's episode and the past episodes....I get this feeling that she might be but then the question of her having her son comes into play.

True, but it's usually never a good sign when a show directly cuts from a mortally wounded character to their adoring spouse and/or children...

I know that but still, her character personality just seems so artificial. She hasn't really shown much.

Don't count Togusa out just yet, he's just down for the time being (Note: I haven't seen the whole series yet, but based on what Togusa went through in the original manga, I have a feeling he'll pull through!).
In response to Artimus Gigan's comment on people's reactions in a big city, think of the incident in NYC in 1967 where a young woman was knifed to death in front of 30+ people who watched from their apartments. Common in group psychology; people freeze, thinking someone else is going to do something (in the case of our young victim, the witnesses did nothing, thinking that someone else had already summoned the police). That or people don't want to get involved. Which is why Togusa lay on the sidewalk bleeding to death while nobody assisted him. Although, I'm also going to assume that the Major and Aramaki both recieved his call for assistance and the camera pulled away before the paramedics arrived.

I think Togusa is very lucky to be married to Michelle Ruff. It's nice to see a character that their head on their shoulders and she cares a lot for Togusa. She also has some intelligence if she can help with the case work like that. Nice job Togusa, we have a winner.
Oh by the way what does the Cerebral Sclerosis treatment have to do with the Laughing Man? As usual I need Ghost in the Shell 101.

Watch each and every episode form now on... scratch that, watch the re-runs too... In fact, rewatch all the 'complex' episodes you've recorded/have on dvd, over and over.
The true story of GitS SAC 1 is being told as you watch... You mustn't miss any!
Just remember that Cerebral Sclerosis is a disease that occurs ONLY to cyborgs (to be exact, those with cyber-brain implants)... And that there is no real cure that people know of...

Ah man, Togusa sure gets hurt a lot in this series:sweat: . A good episode, which got real intense towards the end. And I really feel sorry for that woman that appeared for like 3 seconds and ended up getting holes through her body. Gah, I dunno why, but that scene really stood out for me; I guess it was the way it was animated, not like one of those "strike a pose" scenes when some one gets shot.
Anyway, I give Re-view a B+.

Oh yeah, I know what you're talking about. That scene was sad. It seemed pretty much realistic to me in a sort of way.

You know what I like about this show? The characters' chins move when they talk. I notice on a lot of anime their mouths move without their chins moving. That's impossible. This show has it right.

I really hope he's not dead. Like others, I find him the most relatable because he is the most human. It's hard to relate to someone like the major, she has such a cold personality for the most part.
And aren't they like the police ... why wasn't there anyone there on back-up? The major knew of his plan, it would have been nice if she tagged along in the background, use her invisibility trick.
Also, wondering about the laughing man's connection with the sunflower foundation ... does he have cyber brain sclerosis?

:crying: :crying: :crying: :crying: :crying: :crying: :crying: :crying: :crying: :crying: :crying: :crying: If you know me, Togusa is my favorite character, and I've never been so depressed!!! I HAD TEARS IN MY EYES!!! :crying: :crying: :crying:
Okay, so I've cried a little now. I'm telling you, they pick on Togusa because he's human and he's the weakest and most prone to getting hurt, and everyone likes him so he gets hurt first!!! I find it interesting how everyone is taking a liking to this show now that he is in trouble and yet even thought the episode was all informational it was awesome! Now we know a lot more about the laughing man and it's starting to make more sense, with a price to pay.
I'm telling you, the way Togusa got shot wasn't fair. THANK GOD he didn't make any noise, or he would have been dead for sure. I seriously thought he was gonna die jumping out that window, that must have hurt hitting the guardrail. AND THEN he dropped to the ground!!!! I TOTALLY was upset when nobody helped him, but I really think the Major is gonna get to him in time or the paramedics will.
MY THEORY is Togusa will be in the hospital and the Major and Chief will catch up to him, and he'll be sorta looked at with sympathy for an episode, and I bet his wife will get the news too, I hope she meets the major XD I think they just added the "family" effect by showing Togusa's wife and kids when he's "dying" in the street. Drama.
OMG no kidding about his wife though, I mean the potato scene freaked me out, I seriously thought she was just like LIFE IS ALL DANDY or something..yea.
SIGH anyway it was a good episode with info and stuff like that, and a cool convo with Togusa and Major and yay we are getting somewhere! POOR TOGUSA THOUGH!! :crying: :crying: :crying: :crying: Don't worry I'll be okay!

Curiouser and curiouser. It's like X-files both in the conspiracies and in the fact that for every 1 question they come close to answering, they just get tossed 5 more questions in return.
10/10
Poor Togusa:sad: , it just sucks to be normal sometimes. Hope the Major and the others get to him before he bleeds out.

Complex and Re-View:
1. That filer lady sounds like Wendee Lee....
2. The Major seemed to be more "upfront" in this ep.... :D
3. Heh, no bystander helps bleeding Togusa. That's a much likely occurrence in Japan, where they don't get involved in other's business.

As a matter of fact, that was Wendee Lee :) I was listening to Karasume from Witch Hunter Robin, and it was her. It's funny, cuz three of the voices their are on here too. Amon is Togusa, (Crispin Freeman) Doujima is Togusa's Wife, (Michelle Ruff) and Karasume was the lady in the file place. (Wendee Lee) Crazy eh?

Finally saw the ep on the DVD.
AHAH!!!!! So the laughingman's true motives come into play.
Basically, I think this happened (I'll spoiler it if I hit it right on the money. Someone spoiler-reply me
Despite the vaccine's success, the micromachine companies are all in cahoots to keep it under wraps so that they can promote micromachine treatments as the be-all end all cure for Cyberbrain schlorosys. Not sure how the Laughing man completely connects, but he obviously knows the truth and used his blackmailing scheme to try to con them into confessing.

Unspoilered.
Still doesn't explain who he(LM) is and whats his exact connection in the matter. Patient?? Employee/former Employee of a micro machine company?? who knows?
At least we know his motives: using his skills to reveal the truth about the coverup

That's because most anime has about twice the budget of Space Ghost Coast to Coast. GitS has more than double that budget.

I just find it funny that even though it has been proven print media still exists, I still see it as an inconvenience that Togusa had to search through binders with paper information in them, stored in one box among thousands, only identifiable with a barcode that screams 'futuristic Dewey Decimal system.' All just to find out if there was a connection between the Sunflower Society and the Laughing Man.
Just an observation I wanted to make, since I'm kinda late this week and everything else I wanted to say has been said. To death (somebody help Togusa, for crying out loud!).
8 out of 10 for "Re-view."

The clip of a man holding another person hostage during a news broadcast. The "truth" that he kept demanding might be the vaccine's success. Possibly he also wanted to reveal how one of the board members was taking it even though they denied its use. Interesting.

It takes some time to get it all, really. Not all the facts are on the table still. But it makes sense: they've been wondering on the LM's true motives for a while. This ep pretty much brings it out into the open.
I sure as heck hopr they don't kill of Togusa. He is the mulletman!! :p

Mulletman eh? LOL XD Well he IS the best looking guy on the show in my opinion XD I always fall for the long haired part-weak sympathetic type  ANYWAY I doubt he's dead, and only two more days till we find out :) :) :) ALSO I really think Aoi is the LM, I don't really know, but it is possible he has lived tons of years in a shell, or he could just have that disease and be super smart, or really there are numerous possibilities. Just "why" is the only thing we don't really know!
