View Full Version : Joss Wheden hints at who he wants for Wonder Woman...

Joss made a hint at the Comiccon at who he would like as a possible WW. One of the stars of his show and upcoming movie Firefly...Morena Baccarin. Never even thought of her. She would work perfectly. And she is only 25. So they have plenty of time for sequels.

Plus she has the DC hero connection. Does the voice of Black Canary for the Justice League cartoon.

She looks too...puffy. Not fat. But she just has that kind of puffy quality to her. Not swollen by any means. Just not quite chiseled. Although Greek Godesses were always shown to be slightly puffy if not downright blubbery. I guess she's okay. But then again, I didn't like her job as Black Canary on JLU this past week. Nothing forceful about her voice. Too girly.

 This is the hardest role to cast...ever.

EDIT: I just had to add this. I showed the picture to my dad and he said and I quote: "Once you see her boobs and her...(making the thong lines on himself)...and her tiny little figure...she'll be fine". :o My god I don't think this movie could ever turn out right.

EDIT #2: I take it back. She isn't puffy. It's the make-up. She looks bad here. We need a picture of her smiling and a picture of her mad. Here she looks like some bored goth-chick, older sister supervising a sleepover party, or something.

EDIT#3: What ethnicity is she? Do y'all think she should cast a Greek woman in the role? I'd be impressed if they did...

I never thought of her, but . . . wow! Much better choice than that other girl who was rumored awhile back. Even though I'm not a Whedon fan beyond FIREFLY, I may start anticipating the WONDER WOMAN movie if it gets off the ground with Baccarin.

EDIT#3: What ethnicity is she? Do y'all think she should cast a Greek woman in the role? I'd be impressed if they did...I have no clue as to what her exact ethinticity is. According to her IMDB profile, she's Brazillian, so make of that what you will.

Frankly, I don't really care if they cast a Greek woman in the role. The most important thing, at least in my opinion, is that they cast someone with an exotic appearance... in other words, not a Caucasian. I think as long as whoever's cast in the role has a Greek kind of vibe, the actual ethinticity doesn't really matter.

That, and obviously, someone who can act well. I'm familar with this actresses' efforts on Serenity (she was good), but they really didn't offer any indication of whether or not she was Wonder Woman material.

Morena's definitely got a Greek-like appearance, at any rate. Hell, she'd have made a fantastic Elektra, come to think of it.

Morena never crossed my mind, despite her being an excellent potential choice. My only real issue with her is her ability to play a fierce warrior. Her Black Canary didn't come off as particularly warrior-like, but I've always seen Dinah as a no-talk, sexed-up character anyway.

There's also her height, as I have no idea how tall she is, and Wonder Woman is a very tall person. Not tall enough to be distracting or dwarf many male co-stars, but tall enough to be noticed.

I'll take back my whole "Just Greek, No Hispanic" comment because I really like the look of Morena Baccarin. She's very exotic. She's not the typical American blue eyed, black hair type that we see Wondie portrayed as. I think Baccarin could pass for greek. I do wish the final casting of Diana is someone older. Someone in their mid 20s. I see Baccarin more as a Troia than a Diana. The girl looks fierce though. I can see her as an amazonian but I'm not sure as the warrior princess.

Hmm, doesn't look like a bad choice at all to me.

Two things though (not objections or reservations; just initial impressions):
--She looks perhaps a tad youngish for Wonder Woman (who, after all, isn't called Wonder Girl ;) ).
--I don't think I've ever seen anything she's been in, so, how tall is she? Wonder Woman is supposed to be pretty statuesque.

Holy crapshoot.

If she's cast, my interest in this movie went from minimal to a giddy smile. A whole movie with her...

...I need to go buy those Firefly DVDs...

Pfft, my interest went from non-existant to rocketship-in-space with this thread alone.

Looks aside (and I think Morena is drop dead goregous), I think she'd make a wonderful Wonder Woman. Not only is she just an amazing actress, but (and laugh if you like), just thinking of her voice and I'm sold. Probably I sound off my rocker, but this is actually something that really concerns me. I keep seeing all this hype about Charisma Carpenter being cast and I want to cry so hard because I just can't have a girly voice attached to Diana. (I have a really girly voice, so don't think I'm flaming Charisma for hers because my own makes her sound like a 70-year-old woman with a chain-smoking habit.)

And, while this seems to be more important to others than me, I think she'd look marvelous in the part. 'Course, makeup is an amazing thing, so I think too much emphasis is sometimes placed on this.

Well there are FOUR DVDs in the set...so he's not actually wrong. ;) And it was 14 episodes, counting the two-hour pilot. 11 aired, and 3 un-aired.

Erm, yeah, what she said. :D

I did originally have "DVD" but there are more than one in it. So I put the "s" and now here we are.

Hm...I don't know about this one. She looks like she'd be a better Hawkgirl or Black Canary to me rather than a Wonder Woman........*reads post* oh....she does Black Canary. Cool...

Not really feeling her for the role of Wonder Woman but it could work I guess.

Indeed. She is electric.

She looks the part. Not hiring her because she's not not a certain nationality is a little silly. It (sort of) worked with Jennifer Garner as Elektra, aside from the odd dodgy bit of acting from her.

So, as someone who's never expressed interest in Firefly, and has yet to hear of the lady before now, tell me, what's she like at acting?

Well, I've only seen her in Firefly and Justice League Unlimited. In Firefly, she played Inara, a companion (see also: legally trained prostitute) who was renting a spare shuttle on the captain's ship. Basically, she was very cryptic, sultry, sexy, insightful, intelligent, and secretly very religious. She rarely joined in any of the action, as she was usually off meeting a client. Whenever she did get thrown into the fray, she was typically better at manipulating and analyzing antagonists than shooting them.

Then there's Black Canary on Justice League Unlimited. There, she was sexy, flirty, tough, somewhat blunt, and a little manipulative.

She's been very good at the characters I've seen her play so far, but none of them have been anything like Wonder Woman.

She went to Juliard. That alone should say something. I'd say how great and all she is...but I'm biased, so it's probably not worth the effort.

I was thinking if Joss went to his stable of actresses she'd be up there on the list.

Aside from looking the part, she is a good actress, has a great voice, and is tall if I remember Firefly correctly. A good pick.

May I play devil's advocate for a bit? I do agree to a certain degree that when casting for these type of movies, nationality shouldn't come to play and that actors should be chosen by their talent not by their "look". When casting for these movies it's all about the "look". Nationality, sex appeal, charisma, and etc. are factors that big screen execs take into consideration. Do they always get it right? No but that's a different chat for another thread. Casting *big* named characters like Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman is very tricky. Producers just can't take the risk like they took w/ MCD as Kingpin in Daredevil (which MCD completely rocked in!). Those characters have a certain look movie goers and their comic based fans are expecting to see. Would have the Spider-Man movies worked if Peter Parker was cast outside of his race? I highly doubt it. I think sticking w/ the blue eyed, olive skinned look is the best way to go because Wonder Woman is such an iconic figure. Now I'm not knocking Morena Baccarin. I think she's a beautiful & talented young lady and if given the chance could greatly portray Diana but there's the little creator and "director" in me saying that Joss and Co should just play it safe for the moment. Now like I said.... if Joss does a WW 2 I would really like to see Baccarin as Wondergirl a.k.a. Donna Troy ;)

I think she's the best choice I've seen so far. In fact, I'm surprised no one mentioned her before.

Just give her blue contacts and let her build some muscle and I think we have a winner!

And on the whole "she's too young!" agrument, I'd rather have too young than too old. Plus she's young enough that she could, if the film was successful, do sequels.

After seeing the first post I didn't think she looked right. But, after seeing Dr. Midnight's pics, I think she's PERFECT. Of course, I feel like it's kind of wrong to say she'd be a good choice based on looks alone...but...who cares?

Dude, I haven't seen Firefly in a LONG while because my set happens to be in Seattle for some odd reason, but your description of Inara just reminded of how Mal likes to tease her and refers to her as their "ambassador" when they need someone with good diplomatic skills on some occassions. I can see her bringing some character and intrigue in WW where the JL version lacks, because all those characteristics you described of Inara, Morena really brought on the show. But I hope Joss looks at other people before casting Morena, but if he does, she's fine by me most definitely.

No way. NO. WAY. She looks as good a Wonder Woman as Barnie makes a good Batman (although... that WOULD be kinda surreal...) When I see a Wonder Woman movie I wanna see an AMAZON who could rip my head off and use it as a fruit dish, not some pretty little thing with a cute smile.

This is so wrong in so many ways.
