Points off for allusions to physical spousal abuse.
Bad form Seth Green, bad form.
Then gets points for the "Darkest Sketch" part.

Holy crap.
I know this is going to make me sound like a complete scumbag, but seeing domestic violence on TV is phenomenal. Jim Norton has talked about how he's been censored several times by Comedy Central with regards to wifebeating and it's great that Cartoon Network actually has a pair and let that air.

I still don't know if I was supposed to laugh at that first bit. I mostly sat down, my mouth hanging half-open, a blank expression on my face while chuckling nervously. But the "Darkest Sketch Ever" bit loosened me up and had me giggling like a schoolgirl.
Oh no...not the Bloopers.
Two things:
1. The schtick of physically bad things happening to people, especially during the Bloopers segment, is already starting to feel formulaic. I'm loving the show so far, but that's bad.
2. I think this episode broke all taboo a comedy show can have on Cartoon Network without unbleeping profanity.
Rating: C+
EDIT: Raised the grade upon remembering the Villians Stuck In Traffic and the Airplane bits.

good quick shots - fat guy reaching for ice cream, guy jumping over car, flying is the safest form of travel "stop hitting yourself" & why did the chicken cross the road, happy birthday to you *bam!*
good longs ones - toothfairy ending #1 & #3 "darkest sketch!", evil doers stuck in traffic! "you missed the kids", the sports bloopers!

I was cracking up at the "Tooth Fairy kills a wifebeater/gets killed by a wifebeater" sketch ("DISNEYLAND!"), and the Luthor/Skeletor/Mumm-Ra/Cobra Commander sketch.
NickWhiz1
03-20-2005, 11:44 PM
I liked this one better than last week.
Highlights for me:
*Tooth fairy visit w/alternate endings
*Villains carpooling, then running into the respective superheroes
*Sports bloopers
The spousal abuse sketch was decent, though the ending #4 friggin rocked.
Loved the airplane sketch and its ending.
Everything in the villian sketch friggin rocked, especially the heroes being jerks and Cobra Commander being Cobra Commander. Points off for the horrible Mum-Ra impression, though.
Bloopers was MUCH funnier this time around, especiall the Today Show and the Sports Bloopers.

The Tooth Fairy sketch started out pretty funny (and probably deserved that "Darkest Sketch Ever" award) but the various alternate endings stretched the joke too thin and killed it. The Carpooling Villain sketch was yawn-inducing, and the Bloopers bit wasn't any funnier than the first. Not the best episode.

I missed the beginning of the episode, so in order to give a complete grade, I must watch the encore airing. But from what I did see, it had me ROFL. Good stuff.

I didn't really enjoy the Tooth Fairy sketch but I loved the Super Villian Car Pool sketch.

Carpool bit was the best, the darkest sketch part was funny too. Bloopers was a little stupid, though.

I liked last week's episode but this was just boring. They still need to learn when to STOP; tooth fairy was funny for awhile, but by alternate ending #3, they'd lost it. A few chuckles, otherwise boring.
I also have a personal hatred of the bloopers sketches for no rational reason.

This is the weakest episode so far (for me at least). Nothing particularly hilarious and a good deal of the sketches were fairly predictable, you sorta know what's going to happen before it happens.

03-20-2005, 11:49 PM
While not as good as the last two episodes it was alright. The Tooth Fairy bit should have ended after the first ending, The Villian carpool was great save for the horrible Mum-Ra impression and the Bloopers were the weakest part of the show save for Spidey hitting the window.

It's that big a deal? I was annoyed when they called it the "darkest sketch in television history" because I didn't find it remotely dark enough to warrant such an arrogant claim. Abuse and murder in a humorous cartoon seems to be passe in almost every other context, is it really that much different if one ficticious animated character happens to be married to the other?

The Darkest Sketch and Bloopers parts weren't too good, but I did like the pole vault blooper. The carpool sketch was the best one, and I also liked the fat kid with sundae and the need to destroy the elementary school.

I think I'm gonna give up on this show, it's just not funny. The fairy sketch wasn't even good to begin with and then they just end up dragging it on forever. And the quick ones were just completely devoid of anything resembling funny. The show just seems to try too hard with referencing other shows and the "Haha, did you get that? Hey, look at what we're parodying! Funny, right? HAHA?" type humor.
I give Toyz in the Hood an F+.

Not the best, but probably somewhere in the top three.
The tooth fairy one was the best, hands down. Best part being "DISNEYLAND". Very funny.
The carpooling super villians and bloopers was funny at some parts, kind of stupid at others.
Overall...okay. 8/10

Loved the toothfairy scene. That plus finding the Mr. Rogers blooper hysterical probably proves that I have a morbid sense of humor.
Car pool was great. Loved Skelator. Mum-ra was really bad though. A for effort though.
Pole-vault short was funny, too. :anime:

Car pool rocked*so i'm a 80's toon nerd* well cept for the Mumm-Ra impression, CC and Skeletor were pretty good though, Luthor was alright.
Toothfairy was WTF hehehehehe.
Bloopers was alright, best part WAS Spidey hitting the window.

I was a little suprise to see the host of the blooper segment back seeing as he hunged himself but it was an awesome episode esp. the part with the villians, "He did have a teleporter."
Almost forgot to comment on the latest Robot Chicken.. I missed the first part so I'll have to catch the encore. I did like the tiny scene of the zombie sticking the straw in the dude's head for a late night drink, and the carpool scene with Skeletor, Mumm-ra, Cobra Commander & Lex Luthor.. "IT'S COMMON COURTESY!" .. And poor Spidey and the rest of the guys getting distracted by Katie and hitting the building. :p

Good stuff. Highlights for me were Darkest Sketch, Cobra Commander and crew stuck in traffic, and the nerd trying to get the sundae (thanks again, Robot Chicken). Bloopers were not as good as last time.
Tied for second best episode. I'll say B+.

The Toothfairy bit was only so-so funny the first time. By the third time it was just mean-spirited. Not dark, just mean-spirited.
Villains on the roadway bit was very funny. Always knew Skeletor was a gasbag.
Bloopers were an ok note to end the show on.

Where have you ever seen anything like that on a comedy show before? I think the difference between a husband beating his wife and then shooting her is that it's realistic, it really happens. It had an air of realism to it. Now, when Cartman killed a bunch of hippies with a drill on South Park last week...that's a lot less likely to happen in real life, so they can easily get away with it. It's the same mentality with showing lasers on Toonami but not showing guns. It's far less likely to be killed by a laser than it is to be killed by a gun.
Anyway, my favorite of the three endings was #1, with #3 a close second. Some of the bloopers were funny, like the kid being clobbered. Some parts of the traffic sketch were funny. I didn't find the airplane sketch that funny. Not the greatest episode but still pretty funny.

Comments on the main sketches:
Tooth Fairy: Funny concept, but the third ending (save for the "darkest sketch" celebration) kinda dragged on (and it would have been funnier if it was the mother who was the survivor in this ordeal).
Airplane Bit: The main part was boring, but the bit where it crashes when a kid asks a chicken why it crosses the road was funny.
Supervillains: Somewhere in between when it comes to the first viewing (although it may improve come the second viewing). Highlights were Lex Luthor vs. the kids and Skeletor letting out a fart.
Bloopers: The original bloopers bit was funnier, although there were some highlights with the Today Show bloopers and some of the sports bloopers. Weakest part of the segment: the Al Gore bit (sorry, but that bit is nowhere as funny as the other bits).
Freedom Fighter
03-21-2005, 03:23 AM
Liked: The villains in traffic skit. I think it really picked up once the heroes appeared, especially when they stole their parking space! Kudos to Lex Luthor and Cobra Commander, thumbs down for Mumm-ra and... whomever the other guy was.
Eh...: The toothfairy bit with the three endings. Dragged on a bit too long, and maybe it's just me, but coming in and declaring 'Darkest Sketch Ever' kinda killed what ever momentum the joke/skit had.
Disliked: The sports bloopers. You've seen one, you've seen them all. Except the guy who got impaled by his pole vault stick. Which was less than funny.
This week's episode: 5 out of 10. Hmmm... I think I'm also going to be one of the ones to bow out at this point. After five episodes, I came in wanting to laugh... and I haven't laughed nearly enough. If somewhere down the line Seth Green and company can make this more ha-ha funny instead of stupid funny, maybe I'll consider watching again.
Until then, I'm leaving my portion of Robot Chicken back on the road where I found it.

Two great skits, but not much around them. The domestic violence was hilarious, especially the first and second endings and what the father says during the third one. Not the darkest sketch ever, though. I saw a darker sketch recently on Mad TV.
The villians in traffic thing was classic, probably the the best long sketch yet. "You missed the kids."

Tell that to the Sealab people.
A meh episode more than anything. I failed to let out anything more than few chuckles, and those were at the supervillian carpool. The tooth fairy scene was just more disturbing than anything.

This episode in my opinion is probable the worst so far. It wasn't really as funny as the last 4 episodes. The tooth fairy skit was kinda funny, but it dragged on for too long. I liked the villan car pool and the Bloopers skit was alright as well, but compared to the past episodes this episode phails in comparisson. I even liked episode 2 better. Here's my list of the best episode so far to the worst.
1. Gold Dust Gasoline!
2. Plastic Buffet
3. The Nutcracker Sweet
4. Junk in The Trunk
5. Toyz in the Hood

The Carpool sketch was the funniest out of the whole lot, the Tooth fairy kinda of ran a little too long(though I would have liked to see an ending with the mom), and most of the blooopers were okay.:D

Eh. Weakest episode so far. Carpool was funny but everything else......eh. Cept for Al Roker hitting the window. Took me a couple seconds to realize it was him.
Also, this Jesus stuff is getting REALLY retarded. How high and mighty can you be that you keep this "omg can't say Jesus name in vain!!" kick up for so god damn long? I know CN is in bible country and all (and I'm in the same city) but having to bleep it out of "Thank you Jesus!" makes it look like there's some kind of Christian agenda going on at S&P. They really have a bunch of ****ing ********* in that department.

This reminded me a lot of the first episode and not just because of the Bloopers end sketch, but also because it was inconsistent. It was good, but it could have standed to be better. After all, it's only 10-15 minutes long.
The Tooth Fairy sketch with the different endings did go a little too long for me, but I applaud CN for actually showing domestic violence (a self-proclaimed "comedy killer") while other channels (as one person said, Comedy Central) would be too chicken to air. The "darkest sketch" ending was unexpected and why did they give the kid a check?
The Bloopers sketch didn't stretch as long as it did the first time, so that's a plus.
All in all, a weak effort, but if it can go up from there, then...good luck to them.

A pretty okay episode of RC this week. The pacing still needs some work though, as some of the segments are still running a bit too overly long (The Tooth fairy segment was about a scene too long for me). You know, this wasn't one of the episodes listed in the original episode synopsises. Wonder what's with that?
Highlights: First part of the Tooth Fairy segment, the pilot and copilot fighting, Luthor's teleportor putting him into the kids's car, The Today Show bloopers and some of the sport bloopers.
Grade: 2.25 Stars Out of 5 Stars.

Yes, they do.
However, this is different. If people can't see the difference, well, I don't know what to tell them.
I liked the carpooling villains the best. I almost feel bad about laughing at women getting beaten, but the The tooth fairy sketch was pretty funny.

Dude I'm tired of hearing how the fairy sketch was so horrible and uncool. What's uncool is the fact that u can't appreciate somone had the balls to do it. Another good episode. The "Darkest Sketch Ever" got old after the 2nd alternate ending (thank God they added the twist at the end, otherwise I would've hated the sketch entirely). The other sketches stayed strong, and the villains in traffic was hysterical. I wasn't to sure about the "Bloopers!" sketch at the end, but this one was funnier (although the host committing suicide at the end was still unfunny).
Cheers to Cartoon Network for pushing boundaries. 4/5
Oh, and did anybody catch Scarlett Johansson (my favorite actress) on tonight's episode? Does anybody know when another of her appearances, a sketch called "Pimp My Sister", will air?

I honestly don't understand why so many of you are complaining about the "domestic abuse" sketch. For one, you never actually SEE anything, you only hear it in the background. Sure, if they were showing some guy beat, rape, choke, and murder his spouse, that would be rather offensive. But you never see a single scene of any violence. And let's not forget the other important fact: IT'S A TV SHOW. This is not reality, no one was hurt, nobody died. Get over it, sit back, relax, and enjoy yourself for once instead of complaining about every little thing you feel isn't "politically correct."
