Seeing as how the first one was big, it was to no one's surprise that The Ring 2 was the number one movie this weekend. The sequel to the $129.1 million hit brought in $36 million on it's opening weekend.

Dropping to second place was Robots with $21.8 million and a total of $66.8 million.

The Pacifier continues to be a hit as it came in third place with $12.5 million and a $72.2 million total.

Debuting in fourth place was Ice Princess with $7 million. Disney somehow got it right with The Pacifier, but not with Ice Princess. Eh.

Rounding out the top 5 is Hitch which had fifth place last weekend. It made $6.6 million this weekend which gave it a total of $159.4 million.

Kevin Costner and Joan Allen's The Upside of Anger opened a little wider this weekend after being in limited release. It came in eleventh place with $1.9 million and a $2.2 million total.

Opening next weekend are two new movies. First up this Thursday Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous with Sandra Bullock opens.

Then one day later on Friday, Guess Who with Bernie Mac and Ashton Kutcher opens.

Here are your numbers...

I saw Ring 2, and it was just as disappointing as the first one.

I'm alittle surprised that Ring 2 took the top spot, I knew it would be in the top 3 for sure but I thought people would be smart and realize it wouldn't be all that great but of course they didn't. I personally think that it is really hard for a movie to pull off a good horror film with a PG-13 rating, without cheap 'something jumping at the screen real quick' tatics. It would have to be a smart horror film to be actually creepy/scary with a PG-13 rating. Like 'The Grudge' in my opinion managed to pull it off.

Also I think it is impressive that 'The Upside of Anger' made $1,938,000 from only 153 theaters!

Only movie coming up soon that has me awaiting eagerly and will more then likely be going opening night is but of course.... SIN CITY!

I'm not big for sequels for movies that didn't really seem like it needed to be a franchise. It'll be interesting to see how Ring 2 lasts.. like all the others that haven't so far this year.

33% or so drop for Robots IIRC last weekend's gross off hand, looks like it'll be hardpressed to reach 150 unless it stays in the 20+ range for at least the next 2 weekends.

I'm not surprised with Ice Princess's gross, it seemed like Disney barely did any promotion of that movie compared to when the Pacifier debuted. Guess they had more confidence putting their advertising behind Vin Deisel.

I think Be Cool could probably end up around $70 million. That'd be a good performance, I'd think anyway. Theater crowds seem to be a lot more fickle with the ticket prices escalating like they have.

I'm not big for sequels for movies that didn't really seem like it needed to be a franchise. To be fair, it originally was 3 movies.

Ring 2
Spiral/Rasen (which is an alternate sequel to the first one)

The next movies I am looking forward to are Sin City, Kingdom of Heaven, Star Wars, and Batman Begins.
