Spielberg to make Baywatch movie
Steven Spielberg is behind moves to bring back Baywatch this time to the big screen.
According to the New York Post, Spielberg has secured the movie rights to the show from its co-creator Greg Bonann and plans to make the movie in 2006.
Baywatch debuted in 1989 as a weekly series on NBC starring David Hasselhoff as the lifeguard who patrolled the beaches of Malibu surrounded by a group of scantily clad lifesavers.
The show was cancelled after 11 years during which time it made sex symbols of stars like Pamela Anderson, Yasmine Bleeth, Carmen Electra, Donna D'Errico and Gena Lee Nolan.
The show aired in more than 140 countries and even spawned a spinoff, Baywatch Nights. It was renamed Baywatch Hawaii when it relocated in 1999.
In 2001 it was cancelled when viewing figures in the US fell to just 1.9 million a week.
Is Spielberg serious?

Is this true? Is Spielberg getting horny as he gets older? Or does Ananova.com (http://www.ananova.com/entertainment/story/sm_1324151.html?menu=) have it wrong?

Jesus christ.... I mean for chrissakes A BAYWATCH movie.... For ChristSAKES that couldnt make a mini-series!
Now if it was only made in the image of Baywatch Nights.. I really liked that spinoff, it also didn't hurt that Angie Harmon was a part of that show. ;)

This should not be. It just wouldn't be the same without Hasselhoff, and with his career taking off after the SpongeBob movie, you know he's gonna be too busy for this.

Uh-oh. It looks like Steven's getting senile...they all do eventually. George went nuts, Stan Lee went nuts, and now the Deadly Cuccoo of Age-ed Insanity has aimed his twisted, evil hypnotizing stare at Spielberg. It was nice knowing him....

Believe it or not, it's actually going to get viewers. It's quite a popular series; and I'm sure that veteran Baywatch viewers wouldn't hesitate to pay to see it.

I've done a search thru Yahoo News for this, and in every single article, not only are there no sources named, there is no author named for any article.
I think this is either a rumor or a overly-generalized story. I think it's possible that DREAMWORKS, not Spielberg himself, has bought the rights to Baywatch ... Spielberg being one of the founders of Dreamworks.
Earliest article I could find on this is from Thursday... I guess we'll have to wait to see about more details...

Will Spongebob have a cameo?Lol.:p It's sad to see a great director do alot of poor movies lately. I think they should have Norm McDonald in it since he enjoys putting down Hasselhoff alot.

I have to agree.
Also, wasn't Ananova the place that had Kim Basinger rumored for Wonder Woman? Because that hasn't panned out either.

Well, that would explain why Stan Lee made Striperella (MartianInvader's right about these old creators/filmmakers losing it in they're senility) at least.
Although you have to ask, what a Baywatch Movie would be about?
Well, someone would probably need rescuing in the water.
Probably A Love Triangle between the lifeguards.
Slow Motion For All The Running To The Beach Scenes At least
Uh... I don't know, maybe they'll toss in some sharks or something.

I think it's possible that DREAMWORKS, not Spielberg himself, has bought the rights to Baywatch ... Spielberg being one of the founders of Dreamworks. That's more likely. Dreamworks probably bought it, and as such, Spielberg will be Executive Producer. He'd only be connected to this by a game of telephone 5 people long.
I can't believe he would direct it, even if he did personally buy the rights. Nothing in his history suggests he would go for this.

I checked spielbergfilms.com, and it says absolutely nothing about a Baywatch movie--and even if it did, the webmaster would rightfully trash it as being a BS fabrication(Just like he did with "Bay of Pigs").
Seriously, this is the worst April Fools' joke. EVER.
