View Full Version : Which OS Are You Running?

Was wondering what OS you run on your machine... the choices:
1. Windows XP
2. Windows 2000/NT/ME
3. Windows 98
4. Windows 95
5. Windows 3.1
6. Mac OS 7/8/9
7. Mac OS X (all versions)
8. Linux (mention which version/"distro")
9. Unix
10. DOS
11. Other
12. Don't know
Think I nailed the major ones (and left room via "other")....
My answer:
I was running Mac OS 9 (option #6), but since moved to Linux (option #8) with the new PC I bought last month. The version of Linux I'm using is Fedora Core 3. Like it so far, though it does have its rough edges...

Win 98 on my outmoded-yet-faithful old desktop ... my work laptop (from which I post here from time to time) runs Win XP and to be honest I greatly prefer Win 98, it just feels a bit less condescending =)

I voted unix because BSD wasn't an option.
More specifically FreeBSD.

I also have windows NT installed, but I've been thinking I should get around to using Wine to run the couple of window apps I use, then I'll be completely windows free. :)
I also use linux sometimes.
I guess my current favorite distribution is DSL linux because it will work just about anywhere.

Heh, too bad you didn't use the one with Tux in it . I have no clue how to run free BSD but I tacitly support it just because of that one picture.
Anyhow, I'm running the elegant and subtly refined Windows 2000 (Pro) and I have to say, I'm dreading the day when I'll have to give it/her up. Why her? Well I'm a fan of the OS-tans.

Hmph... FreeBSD... figures I'd forget *one*. Though I guess that's what "other" was for :-)
Also should've set up the poll to allow more than one choice I suspect; forgot that there's people who actually own more than one computer...

Mainly Linux of which mostly Mandrake at the momenet but I have used other distros like Debian. I have played around with QNX and BeOS.

Uhh as for the Unix in the poll, I highly doubt too many people have something like a SUN,SGI or IBM Unix box, I really would be supprised if someone said their running AIX or Solaris at home thus you could have had BSD instead of Unix in the poll.

Mac OS X 10.3.8. Soon to be running 10.4 (Tiger), hopefully when it's released in the summer.

Mac OS X 10.2.8. "Jaguar."
I got my laptop a month or two before Panther was released. D'oh. I was considering upgrading for awhile, but now I'm just holding out for Tiger. It's getting tough, though, with more and more programs dropping support for 10.2.

Err... rather odd construction for an OS poll. Any reason for ME being lumped in with the completely unrelated NT & 2000? Probably should have been multiple choice as well...
I currently have systems running... uhh...
Windows XP
Windows 2000
Windows ME
Windows 98
Windows 95
Windows 3.1
DOS
Linux (Fedora & Mandrake)
I think that's all of them. =x
Right now I'm on Win2000, with which I spend most of my time.

I wasn't aware about this "OS-tan" thing till I read this thread. If anyone is interested, I googled this site up. OS-tan Avatar Gallery (http://www.mtfn.net/gallery/index.asp) There are some nice pics in there.
I use Windows XP, have for a few years now, runs wonderfully. If i ever get that ibook I've been wanting, i'd have something with OS X as well.

Windows XP... haha I'm not that creative and don't put up a picture.
On the computer I run Windows XP. I've used experience with Win ME and Win 98 in the past.
My Zire 31 Palm runs OS 5.

Just to make sure, you did know about the Apple Up-to-Date program (http://www.apple.com/macosx/uptodate/), right? If you bought the laptop in the right time window, you were entitled to a free copy of Panther for the cost of shipping & handling (which, frankly, is overpriced at $20, but it still beats the $100+ you'd have to shell out for the full version). It's since expired, but it's worth knowing about if you're planning to buy another Mac.
I'm on Mac OS X 10.3. The work machine is running XP.

I just thought this would be interesting:
Apprently there is a weird fetish involving the OS-tans. It revolves around hackers forcing their viruses into them in a virtual world and royaly screwing them up...
I swear it's all that cubical living that's doing this...

I swear it's all that cubical living that's doing this... Huh. I didn't know that. The only thing I knew was the fan art involving the Norton Anti-Virus constantly checking the OS-Tan girls to see if they're infected. He's characterized as some sort of pervert with a stethoscope.
