My project for the past year has been cooking more. To that end I've been, er, cooking more. Today I made a lemon cake (from a mix I KNOW I'M SORRY BUT IT WAS ON SALE!) with lemon icing. The icing is delicious and is from the only book I would take with me to a desert island: Joy of Cooking. It's 1/4 cp soft butter, 2 cps powdered sugar, 1+ (I definitely went with "+") tbsp cream beat together, then the rind of one lemon and juice gradually beaten in. Delicious.

I realize that's not really a recipe, so to prove my cooking bona fides I'll also attach this one (http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/recipe_views/views/231354), which I actually accomplished going no further than my local Whole Foods, only eliminating the lily buds and substituting for the white pepper.

Oooh, epicurious.com. My friend recommended me the site last fall when I asked her for the recipe for Pineapple Shrimp Fried Rice (http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/recipe_views/views/11983) she made when I visited. For some short cuts, we used canned pineapple chunks instead of fresh and oyster sauce instead of anchovy paste.

And this is my favorite cookie recipe: Clementine's Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies (http://www.ghirardelli.com/recipe_clementine.html). The recipe can also be found on the packages of Ghirardelli semi-sweet chocolate chips.

I demand more cake-induced 4am Twage threads!

I don't really have an recipies to contribute at the moment, but I'm also interested in finding more. I've been trying to learn to cook more things so I don't just alternate between Macaroni and Cheese one night and Pasta the next. My fiance got a bunch of cookbooks for Christmas, but I need to work on simpler things before I try much of the more complicated recipies (although my stir fry did come out well).

Also Diet Cherry Vanilla Dr Pepper! We demand more of that too 'cause this two liter bottle was brand new yesterday and now it's almost empty.

Well, you still have a standing invite if you want to come up and try them out on me. You wanna come up for Anime Central and mess up my kitchen (not that I particularly need help)?

I just had to write a recipe in Japanese for an assignment. Give it a try, it's quite good: :)

OK, the original English is here (http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/recipe_views/views/109132) if you must. And I really do recommend it-- easy but unusual and classy-looking. Not to mention yummy.

That shrimp fried rice sounds taaasty. And I will have to try out that cookie recipe. I am on a lifelong quest for good cookie recipes. A fun one that I tried out a couple weeks ago (while watching Star Wars by chance) is Wookie Cookies (http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/recipe_views/views/101653). There's also an excellent pumpkin cookie recipe I found in a used book, I'll have to type that one up later.

Here's another cookie recipe. This one is a big favorite among my friends. :D

Marble Squares

1 cup plus 2 Tbsp sifted flour
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup (1 stick) softened butter
6 Tbsp sugar
6 Tbsp brown sugar
1/2 tsp vanilla
1/4 tsp water
1 egg
1/2 cup chopped nuts (I like using walnuts)
1/2 cup chocolate chips

PRE-HEAT OVEN TO 375 degrees
Grease a 8x8 or 9x9 cake pan

1. Sift together flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
2. Blend together butter, sugar, brown sugar, vanilla, and water.
3. Beat egg and add to sugar/butter mixture and mix well.
4. Spoon in flour mixture to the sugar/butter mixture and stir well.
5. Stir in chopped nuts.
6. Spread batter in the pan.
7. Sprinkle chocolate chips over mixture.
8. Place in oven for 2 minutes. Then take out the pan from the oven and run knife through dough to marblize.
9. Return the pan to the oven and bake 12-14 minutes.
10. Cool and cut into squares.
