The college I want to go to (BTW it's University of Michigan) requires you to take 2 years of a foreign language and I don't know which one I want to take. The choices are French, German, Spanish, Latin, Japanese, and Chinese. I'm choosing between French, German, and Latin. What do you think I should take?
Take Spanish, it is the easiest, most useful in the USA, and although it will require a lot of work, it will require less work than the others.( your post is not completely clear, if you are in grammar school, plan on taking 4 years of high school language if possible, and then you may not have to take anything at all at University, find out from them, ....If you are a senior in H.S/, I would suggest, that this summer you take two years of high school language, that you already have taken, which will give you four years of high school language, , that may qualify you to not take any language at all in college or university.(It is extremely difficult in college or at University level) .I will admit that taking four years in High School was not at all fun, but 40 years later I still remember my Spanish, and did not have to take any language at the University level..(best advise my brother ever gave me.) ..May have saved me my University career...good luck...Stuart

Yeah that's what I did- I took two years of Spanish in high school, as a freshman and sophomore. That was all I needed to get into college without having to take a foreign language IN college.
Spanish is really easy. It makes a lot of sense (well... except for the masculine or feminine nouns), and you learn a lot of words in a short period of time. Of course, now I'm out of practice. ;)

I'm in German and I absolutely love it. It's easy to learn and it's fun to speak. I've been taking it since 7th grade and still haven't grown tired of it.

I'm thinking about taking spanish but I'm still not sure. I toke spanish in 6th and 7th grade and basically all through elemetary school but I didn't really learn anything in elementary.
The reason I want to take German is because I have a good friend that speaks it so he could help me when I'm stuck on something.

I'm from Michigan as well, and I'm a freshman at Michigan State (all the way! UM sucks  ). I always thought that 2 years of foreign language was balony, I know some people that didn't even take foreign language classes and are attending UM right now. Regardless, spanish is the easiest, first year is nothing, as of 2nd year Spanish, I wouldn't know becuase I only took one year :anime: But my sister says it's easy.
German on the other hand, can be helpful too. My friend is required to take German, it's required in his major (which is education).

I'm from Troy. Maybe the people that didn't take foreign language already knows a different language and didn't need 2 years of a foreign language class.
Spanish is looking really good right now since you guys think it's easy.

My HS only offered French, Spanish, or Itallian, and only had two teachers who taught the languages(1 taught Spanish & Itallian and the other taught French) one teacher was crazy and the other was a hardass, however IIRC they were both Year II teachers, and the year 1 language teachers where constantly switched in and out...I switched out of Spanish 1 the teacher was actualy really nice and let me go with a B-....
So I wound up taking an english course intead next marking period
Whereby I learned the magical ways of Shakespear and how ****ed up endings really can put a damper on many things....

Spanish. It's actually (and slightly sadly) pretty good to know in America.
And yes, I took two years in high school and remembered jack by college. I'm in my second semester in college, and it's not that much more advanced than what we did in high school.

I've been taking Japanese, so unless you like pain, I would avoid that one.

Romance languages are fun because they give you a lot of insight into English as well, due to the heavy cross-pollination between them. Spanish is nice because unlike English, it has more rules than exceptions. For example, once you learn the basic rules of pronunciation in Spanish, you can pronounce any unfamiliar word by seeing how it's spelled.
It's funny, I took Spanish in high school and struggled my butt off for the first two years. Then somewhere in the third year it just clicked in my brain, and a lot of it was effortless after that.
My fourth year, there was this great class called Spanish for Conversation. There was no homework and no tests. You just showed up every day and chatted with your friends in Spanish. There was a rule in my high school that every class had to have a final exam, so for your final exam you had to talk to the teacher for like five minutes and she'd give you an A. It's the easiest class I've ever taken, and also the one I learned the most from.

Anyway, I'm in Satiating Your Sadomasochism I, aka Japanese.

I wish you could in high school...don't some colleges offer a sign language course as well?.Well I know some people who major in sign language I don't know if that's specific to us though. We have some program or something where we get all these deaf people from South America. I think it's an awesome language though.

I took Spanish when I was a freshmen and sophomore. This year I took a break from the language, but I'm thinking of taking AP Spanish in my senior year. I took Spanish because not only the fact it's fairly easy, but I needed serious work on it. I'm a Hispanic, but my Spanish is horrible.

Well, Spanish might be most usefyl for our country, but Latin kicks its butt up and down the street. Read the Caesar stories, and you'l be hooked. Trust me, take Latin and never go back.
