Ok, since I know I'm not the only Farscape fan here, I figured I'd start a thread about the show. Its not really an animation topic, but the board does say "General Topics" too, so I hope I'm not too far off topic here.
Anyway, let's use this thread to discuss anything and everything about the show. I'd like to discuss the new episodes too, so let's just give one big SPOILER WARNING FOR THE WHOLE THREAD here. :D
So, to start us off - who out there is collecting the new Farscape DVDs that have finally started making it to US/Canadian shores? What do you all think of them? So far I'm loving 'em - let's discuss!

:) Yo! I like Farscape. It is practically the only show I watch on tv anymore. I plan on buying the DVDs that contain the episodes: DNA MAD SCIENTIST and OUT OF THEIR MINDS.
I hope they give Rygel more air time. He's my fave.

Welcome to the new boards, PK! I was wondering how long it would be before you showed p to ake a comment in here.
Have you bought any of the other DVDs yet? They're all great - some nice extras, with footage not seen here in the US, behind the scenes shots, and commentaries on each episode. Well worth buying!
Zhann was my favorite, but I guess I won't be seeing her get anymore screen time! :(
I'd like to see Crais get more screen time - he's becoming a favorite of mine. This new woman though - she's gotta go. She annoys the living daylights out of me.
Did you see the latest new episode of Farscape (the one that was on two weeks ago)? Man, that was one bizarre episode! What do you think of the new Crichton - think they'l keep him around for a while, or just for another episode or two?

Do you mean the one with the "twinned" peace keepers? That one was sick (in a good way). The best part was when Crichton asked the pilot why they were cutting off his arms, and he said, "...Because...because they're EATING ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
I liked the previous weeks episode also. It dragged a little durring the first half, but it had a shway ending. I totally didn't expect the hoard to kill the women and children.
Currently, I don't own any of the Farscape DVDs. Is DNA MAD SCIENTIST (the one with Namtar) or OUT OF THEIR MINDS (the one where they trade bodies) out yet?

Yep, I was referring to the "twins". That was an awesome episode. And the one from the week before was great too.
What I like about this show is that they do things that you don't really see on other shows. For example, the clone thing has been done in every sci-fi show in existence. But in this show they gave the cloning idea a bit of a twist - making them exact duplicates - so exact that even the twinned character doesn't know if he/she is the original or the twin. And how often do you see a clone/twin of a main character actually join the cast of the show (for whatever amount of time it will be)? I can't say I've ever seen that happen before.
And the same thing with the episode from the week before - we've all seen the time travel thing done, and we've all seen plenty of episodes where they accidentally make a change in the past that effects the future/present. But how often do you see it all go wrong like it did in that episode, and then not even get fixed by the end? Our heros completely f'd up history, and got a bunch of people killed, and now have to live with the knowledge. The writers on this show are gutsy, and I like that.
And, no, that DVD you want hasn't come out yet. So far they've come out with the first 3 DVDs - the first 6 epsiodes of the show.

Actually, I'm looking forward to tomorrow's episode - looks like an interesting one. It is a rerun, isn't it? I don't think I've seen this one before.

Hope I'm not talking to myself here now....
Anyone watch tonight's episode? One thing I found rather interesting about it - they reused some puppets from an old Jim Henson movie. Anyone seen The Dark Crystal? Remember the Skeksies? Well, the alien creatures in tonight's episode were the Skeksies with wings! It blew my mind to see them there!

It looks like only you and I read this thread, DAWG. It was really weird how they put on all my favorite episodes on in a 2 week period. First they aired OUT OF THEIR MINDS. And then they aired the chain reaction the following Friday, which featured both DNA MAD SCIENTIST and TRALTIXX. It was pretty sweet.

I'm reading your thread - with caution as I'm not sure if you have which series you're on....... we're still waiting for series 3 in the UK......
Funny, Farscape is one of those many series which received my 'this is total balls' judgement when it first aired.
It is, however, one of the few series to actually have that judgement revoked and 'darn tootin'' stamped in it's place.
Hopefully it'll keep it up..... otherwise my rubber stamp will be out again and I'll be stamping 'this is total balls' once again across my screen..........

Yeah, it was kind of cool that they aired those episodes, especailly since I had never seen TRALTIXX, and only seen about half of OUT OF THEIR MINDS! Now I'm finally caought up. :)

Yep, we're in the middle of the third season right now - finally getting new episodes after and extended break for some unexplained reason. I guess maybe we should give spoiler warnings for the third season in here then.
Funny, Farscape is one of those many series which received my 'this is total balls' judgement when it first aired.
I'm guessing "this is total balls" is a bad thing? Sorry, never heard the phrase before.

I was sort of indifferent to the series at first. I missed the first couple of episodes, and then finally caught one of the later episodes, and loved it. So, I started watching it regularly, and have been hooked since. So far, I'm enjoying the third season a lot.

'Total balls' stems from reference to the testicular region of most men. More commonly known as 'Total Bollocks', 'Total balls' is a derivitive which lingers and lurks around the shady alleys of the English tongue.
Series 3 eh? I will watch what I read. I imagine it will pop over to the UK in the early autumn. I and me aforementioned 'total balls' will wait with baited breath............

Oh, yeah, Farscape if frellin EXCELLENT! Taking the whole 'lone man trapped in a strange universe' to levels that it's never seen. INCREDIBLE! Hopefully this season we'll get some answers to a few questions left in the air: What was the 'news' that Creis and Talyn had for Aaryn before she 'died'? Does the 'new' Crichton also have Scorpius in his head? And will Jool EVER stop whining?!
But I do have ONE complaint: I miss the 'fun' episodes, like 'Out of Their Minds' and 'Crackers don't Matter'. Hope they have a few of those this season, 'cause it's getting a little tiring watching each week just to see who's going to die or be in peril or whatever. Not that that's bad, but take a break, guys.

So Clayface, which Criton do you believe is the clone? At first I thought it was the one that was injured in the explosion. But I lost track of them and now I think it's the one with Aryn, aboard TALON. It would have been cool if Chriton had died when he was trapped outside the ship. But since he still lives, I guess that means they have come up with a better way to kill one of the clones off.
WHat was up with that vid chip of Crais and Aryn doing it? WHy was is fake. Did they say the ship just made it up?---b/c that is retarded.
sTARK doesn't really bother me anymore. I can tolerate him, as long as he's acting crazy. <<He did the "MY SIDE! YOUR SIDE!" thing again last week. ...good stuff>>

Anyone see the last new Farscape. Crithon's little Flying out the Ass routine once they were swallowed was hilarious.
Personally I think that the Crithonon Moya is the original. Something just makes me think that.
freakboy86
06-24-2001, 04:25 PM
When they first did the 'clone' thing I figured it would really be lame. But I really like the way they're working with the whole thing. Technically you've now (for the time at least) got two shows going on: The Moya show and the Talyn show, and each one stars Crichton! And it worked PERFECTLY with that whole 'spike in the head if you lie' part.
And they've already answered 2 out of 3 questions I had in my first post on this: what was the info Creis had for Aryn (but who REALLY faked the new vid? Talyn or Creis? And WHY? Blackmail?) and so far they haven't been as dark as the last few episodes. Guess it was pretty accurate to call last season 'Season of Death'.

P.K. queries:
What happened to the "SPOILER" thing?
It's still around. Just type in the word "SPOILER" manually on either side of your text, with bracketsand the little slash. I use the function for jokes/phrases that may be deemed a bit too risque. Like the one about the scented underwear in the "Useless Thread" post.
See?

I have no frellin idea which one is which anymore. I'd like to think that the one on board Talyn was the original, but I really don't know.

Yeah, I'm guessing they've got something big planned for the clone. Maybe on of them goes back to Earth while the other stays out in space with the group??

I believe it was Talyn that made up the fake vid, though the idea that maybe Crais did it is an interesting one. I think, according to the show, Talyn made it up to drive a wedge between Chrichton and Aeryn - Talyn wanted Aeryn all to himself, and he sees that he can't have that with John still around. Its a really bizarre "love" triangle.

It seems like they use 'microt' for both seconds and minutes. Unless I'm hearing it wrong and they say 'micron' for one of them. And of course a cycles a year. Think that's all they've used.
And yeah, I just watched 'Green Eyed Monster' again and was obviously pretty tired or stupid or what when I saw it the first time. So yeah, Talyn did make the vid chip just out of jealousy and trying to force John out of the picture. Man, I've got to pay more attention.

According to the official Farscape magazine, these are some of the Farscape universe words and their translations:
Time
Microt = approx. a second
Arn = approx. an hour
Cycle = approx. a year
Distance
Dench = approx. an inch
Metra = approx. a meter
Henta, Zacron = equivalents unknown
Expletives
A universe full of them, take your pick! The most popular aboard Moya are dren (I don't give a dren), frell (Frell you!), yotz (What the yotz?), and hezmana (Where the hezmana...?).

I wouldn't count on that happening anytime soon. In the official mag, they have an interview with O'Bannon and he's very excited about the second Crichton - it sounded like they're planning on keeping him most of this season. Personally, I don't mind - I like the double Crichton thing.

Yep, that's where I got my little listing of time and distance units that I wrote above. Great mag with lots of good info in it. I also recommend the Season1 and Season 2 companion books - they have summaries of each season's episodes, and lots of cool background and behind-the-scenes info. In fact, a lot of the cooler things they listed in the offical mag were already rpinted in the series companion books.

Scratch N' Sniff. Who saw it aand what did you think?
I loved it. Probably one of my favorite episodes of the entire series so far. It was just so off the wall, which was a really cool change of pace. It had a very "Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels" feel to it, which I thought was awesome. I don't know what the writer and director were sniffing when they made this one, but I hope they do it again sometime.
Oh, and one more thing. About the season companions:
"Farscape: The Illustrated Season 1 Companion", by Paul Simpson and David Hughes, ISBN #1-84023-178-5
"Farscape: The Illustrated Season 2 Companion", by Paul Simpson and Ruth Thomas, ISBN #1-84023-308-7
I'd strongly recommend both of them to any fan of the show.

Ok, I've been away for a while, so I haven't been able to keep up with this thread, but I'm back now! What did everyone think of the two-parter "Infinite Possibilities"? I thought it was incredible - quite a tear-jerker, and an interesting way to handle the double-Crichton situation, not to mention adding in some interesting new conflict when Aeryn gets back to Moya and the other Crichton.
And how about "Revenging Angel"? Farscape: The Animated Series anyone? THat was just odd.
And then this last episode was pretty dang interesting as well. I wonder if that was the appearance of Aeryn's "father" that O'Bannon was talking about. And I can't wait to see the reunion of all the crew, and what the heck the whole thing about mask for Crichton is!
Comments anyone?

I have most of the same questions about the last episode, but I personally like the animated version. It remined me of the road runner cartoons. And on a diffrent note, How the Frell does Criton know what to do with Stark's mask?

Oh, man I just loved 'Scratch n Sniff'. It looked like something David Lynch would come up with.
As for the death of Crichton, I know it was needed and done well, but knowing that he wasn't 'dead' in the sense that you won't see him again (what with the other Crichton around) it just didn't have the same impact as when Ayren or Zhan died.
The 'Farscape: Animated' in 'Revening Angel' was just a tad bit too much. It was great at first, but they just carried it on too long.
OH, and as for Stark's mask: Crichton was there the first time Stark died and Zhan somehow used the mask to 'contact' Starks spirit. Maybe Stark believes that Crichton can use it to keep in contact with him or, later on, use the mask as a sort of 'homing beacon' for whenever Stark decides to return to the ship(s).
So far tho, this has to be one of the best seasons ever. Hope they can keep it going.

Really? I thought Zhan's death was kind of flat, personally, and I didn't feel a dang thing when Ayren "died" because I coudl see the setup coming for her return a mile away. But I actually had a tear in my eye for Crichton's death. That episode just messed with me too much - it was so cool to finally see Ayren and Crichton havin declared their feelings for one another, and being so happy together. And then to see the joy they both felt when Crichton finally got rid of the clone in his head. Plus the fact that he finally had the info to get back home in his head. And then in one fell swoop it was all taken away. That just blew me away, and the whole thing had a lot more inpmact on me than either of the other two deaths we had seen.
The 'Farscape: Animated' in 'Revening Angel' was just a tad bit too much. It was great at first, but they just carried it on too long.
Yeah, I agree. It was cool to see them in animated form, but I was getting a little tired of the whole Roadrunner/Coyote bit.

Well, I'm thinking it was a couple of things. First, we saw Stark tell Crichton that he had something important to tell him - I'm not sure we actually know what that was yet, and it may be revealed later. And, the other thing is that Crichton got the mask so that he could talk to his other self one last time - what I'm confused about is if that conversation was the important thing Stark wanted him to know, or if Starks' comments were something else entirely.
Overall though, another excellent episode! I was cheeringat the end when Crais and Ayren both went to John's side. Woo-hoo! They gonna kick some you-know-what!

Normal?? Who want's normal? I watch Farscape because it ISN'T normal. If I wanted normal, I'd watch Star Trek. ;)
I peronally love the fact that they keep them separated up - it adds for a lot of variety of the show, and I hope they keep it up.
I doubt things will get any more "normal" though, from what I've read from the creators. In their view, the show is still to "normal for their tastes.

personally, I think that they will only follow Chriton and have them chatch up with the other's later. and this is a sci-fi show, the closest to normal a sci-fi channel show gets is the Invisible Man or Quantum leap or something

Thats exactly my point. I am kinda sick of Crichton, Aeryn, and Crais. I want more Dargo, Chiana, and Jewl. The first 2 have really been neglected this season IMO, as for Jewl, she's just a cool character that I would like to see more of.

Man, you've missed some of the best episodes yet!
Anyway, basically, what happened is this: Crichton got knocked into a coma by a very angry Dargo. As he lay in the coma, he tried to wok out their disagreement in his head, and he did it all by imagining them as cartoon characters. As was said, it was pretty cool to see them all animated, but it sort of dragged at points.

Yeah, I was wondering too if the message from Stark was the 'meeting' between the two Crichtons or another message we just didn't get to see (yet).
What weirded me out was the Crichton's talking to each other. Was this a 2-way holo communication thing where they could actually communicate or did he just know 'himself' well enough to say things like "Look at me." knowing that he (the other Crichton) would be ashamed/embarassed/guilty/sad to be looking the holo-Crichton in the 'eyes' when he told him about Aryn.
Overall an interesting episode, plus: WE GET TO SEE D'ARGO FLY HIS NEW SHIP! Sweeeeeet!

You know, I was wondering that same thing myself - they didn't make that very clear.

well, stark can feel, and ease death. so the two of them communicating with each other, but I think it was a hologram, and Chriton knew himself wel enough to record it and say things like, "look at me." Did anyone notice the rock/paper/sicorss(I can't spell it) and they throw the same as the other. That could support the recording theory

Just thought I'd interject with a bum note.
BBC 2 in the UK (who spent out on buying the series up before Sky) decided to show Series 3 from Monday. Carefully conspiring with a mixture of girlish giggles and fruity drinks, the schedulers decided to tell not a single soul it was coming back. Hence ALL the people I know who avidly watch Farscape (and I know a few) MISSED the programme.
I caught the last few minutes of the first episode.
I am WELL peeved. :(
