Great movie, totally loved it, I want a team zissou intern shirt now!
I suggest fans of Sea-lab go see this movie.
Watch the movie and enjoy it, if a Sealab movie was ever made just take aquatic add LSD, you'd have sealab.
But dont worry, Life aquatic isnt without its strange and wonderful moments.

If I read this post without knowing anything about the movie or Wes Anderson I wouldn't have gone. For those of you who haven't seen it, the movie doesn't resemeble sealab one bit so don't not go because you think it will suck as hard as sealab, it's one of if not my favorite movies of the year!

I dont understand your post too much. But I agree with your statement about being one of your favorite movies. Ditto.
Anyone with half an imagination will know this movie resembles Sea-lab.
My geekiest favorite part was when Jeff goldblums character says the word "Sealab" hahah

The Life Aquatic is like Sealab in that while watching, at first, you think you smell something strange. Then about half way through, you realize you smell urine. All this doesn't detract from the show really, it's just something to think about while you are watching. In the end, you walk away thinking that the movie/show could have been much better and is just a shadow of something that used to be good. And then you realize you've been pissed on.
Of course, I didn't like any of Wes Anderson's movies the first time I saw them. Now I love them all (somewhat). Perhaps after a second or third viewing, Life Aquatic will seem less pee-soaked.

...and if "Friends" took place on a space station, it would be just like DS9.
Oh, wait... it wouldn't.
On the subject of Life Aquatic, I think Ebert had the right idea when he said that while he wouldn't recommend seeing it, neither would he discourage it.
Although the stop-motion animals were cute.

Well, Life Aquatic and Sealab both felt like it was done on the cheaps. Seriously, it's like someone's home videos and local hardware-shop props, and all the colorful marine animals looked Photoshopped. :D

There's so much wrong with this post...Did you see the movie? The 3d cut out of the belafonte looked cheap to you? Looked amazing to me. As for the marine animals...photoshop? What are you talking about? Do you know what photoshop is?

Obviously. Mine and my friends' favorite parts were whenever everybody kept shooting at a charging Billy Murray; yet he never got hit. That's so funny. :)

What's amazing to you just looks like something they whipped up at the studio set using stuff from the local hardware store to me (and I've been involved in HS plays to know what that's like). The movie only cost a modest $50 million to produce (http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=lifeaquatic.htm) (a quarter of that probably already goes to Bill Murray). :p
The real boat most likely didn't even look like that in the inside. Instead, the movie set took the boat's outline and created everything at the set, where they shot the film's inside-the-boat scenes. That way, they didn't even need to rent a top-of-the-line research vessel and save themselves some money. Same for that other (rich snob) guy's "expensive" boat - gotta admit though that when it "sank," the prop (the boat's bow) sticking out of the water was funny. :D

Like the one I'm using right now? Look! I can put pink polka dots on my old dog! :D
Overall, the movie was OK. Nice alternative after being sold-out off Meet the Fockers.
