Ha! this is actualy a sensible discussion topic:

I really hate the way the Inu-yasha DVDs are set up. Really 20 bucks for 3 episodes just doesn't cut it anymore. Also these things get released two weeks after the previous volume, most of the time in the same month. So it's essentialy 6 episodes on DVD per-month for 40-50 bucks. The extras on the discs are essentialy nothing note-worthy so it's not like they couldn't jampack the disc with the 6 episodes(or possibly 8). Also where as other series are 26 episodes, Inu-Yasha streches into the high hundreds. So if it's 3 episodes per dic at $20 minimum, it's going to cost well over a few thousand to aquire the entire collection. Now my discs of IY consist of all of season 1 and season 2 and one disc of season 3. I essentialy got behind(because of GITS:SE, Last Exile, Twelve Kingdoms taking up primary expenses) and then I realise I'm 2 volumes behind, and when I finally scrounge up enough cash I am then 4 volumes behind. Also this isn't even counting the movies(which strangely are longer than the DVD volumes and yet cost less). Besides it's going to be atleast 50+ volumes when the series finishes, you would essentialy have a wall of Inu-Yasha discs, which could either be an interesting discussion piece, or a tribute to the undying will of the consumer mentality.

Either way I'm hoping for a Season 3 box set that would essentialy cheaper

I wish anime I collected came out two weeks after the previous volume.

If you don't like the way Inuyasha dvds, then you should definately not look into buying the Gantz ones.

Well i essentialy stopped buying the DVDs after the first disc of season 3. It's just too much to keep up with. And for what they are, they arn't worth the 20 or so bucks. I mean series like ROD or Gad Guard atleast come with stuff with the discs, though on the other end of the spectrum, they come out too far away from the previous disc.

I pretty much with you. I don't plan on buying the dvds. I'm way to far behind on them and I got other stuff that is(Gantz) worth buying.

I come in here following the title, expecting widespread chaos reminiscent of the old "thread core unstable" threads, only to find Civility? I'm appalled.

Well, I rarely buy anime DVD's, but when I do I use Deep Discount DVD (http://www.deepdiscountdvd.com/genre.cfm?genre=AN) and save an ass-load of cash. A good example is their price on, well, Inu Yasha DVD's, including the movies. They have them all for $16.49. If you want to save more money you can use there free 5-10 day shipping.

And look. GitS Vol. 3 for $15!? If it wasn't on CN I would pick it up right away. Also, look for box sets. I got Excel Saga for $54.

I'll never buy DVD's in stores again.

Hey, at least they're not the Japanese release. Those DVDs contain three episodes apiece, come out once a month, and are $55.00.

I know what you mean, I have most of the first season and all of the second season and a couple of the third but it's too much of a strain on the wallet the way Inuyasha is released. Besides there are other things coming out soon that I need to pick up, like FMA.

Why not wait and buy the Boxsets? Cheaper overall and it saves shelf space.

I thought the only ones that were Limited Editions were the ones that had InuYasha's necklace on it...

Me, if I do buy them, it will be the boxsets, and from what I hear about the series ending, I don't really know if I will.

For long anime series that I really like (Inuyasha) I always get the season box sets. It's much cheaper overall and they come out with it like once a year but I don't mind waiting. You save half by buying the boxsets compared to them one volume at a time. I got my set at DDDVD for $66, for 27 episodes. Check this site out for other cheap anime as well.

If only every long series was released like Dragon Ball...

And that's my two cents about that.

Damn. How much did boxsets cost then? Are there any boxsets yet even?I do not believe the Japanese release contains boxsets. Most people who buy Japanese DVDs get them used, since for some reason Japanese people have an obsession with buying something, watching/reading it once, then selling it, so you can buy stuff used in nearly perfect condition, but for a lot less.

Now, in comparison, the manga retails for 390 yen, which is maybe $3.50, which is a helluva lot cheaper than the $12.00 or so volumes that Viz puts out.

Really? Then that means the Inuyasha season one boxset is actually CHEAPER then DB if you look around....

FUNimation got it right with Fruits Basket: 26 episodes on 4 discs -- that's 6 or 7 episodes per disc.

If only they'd do the same with Case Closed.

They also charged about $40 per disc, and [the release format] tanked. So they dropped the price. So we probably won't see a Fruba or Outlaw Star release ever again, unless anime becomes super popular.
