View Full Version : Colorful... denied by Adult Swim?

Listening to the commentaries on the Steel Angel Kurumi Complete Collection...

"Colorful's our nasty one. I don't think that's out yet, maybe by the time this commentary's out it'll be out... if a certain network doesn't buy it..."

Can we add Colorful to the list of shows pitched to Adult Swim and denied?

I'd love to be at the meeting of Williams Street about that.

WS 1- OK, so it's either the show about panties or the show about the unfunny baby.

WS 2- Panties? Nah, that's too lowbrow. Better go with the baby.

WS 1- But the only people that enjoyed it were that dude from marketing and Pierre Bernard.

WS 2- So?

:p

While Colo(u)rful is good fun, i can see why CN would er on the side of caution over it.

I'd be more worried if Getbackers or Madlax got turned away. And find humor in Gantz's dismissal, wondering why that was even brought up.

Plot Summary: The adventures (and mis-adventures) of Men, staring, peeking, glacing, looking, glaring at women and their efforts to get that extra eyefull of harmlessly exposed panties, bra, and occasional cleavage. Following at most, a few regular males and the outragious concequences of their actions.
 Well, isn't that...interesting? I'm sure that this would work out just fine on AS. [/sarcasm]

Let's see, Madlax is like Noir, Noir was turned down. I can think you can fill in the rest of the blanks here. Getbackers is probably already been pitched and passed on. Gantz is obviously out because, hey, I don't think CN looks too kindly upon a naked women recieving fallatio against her will from a canine. For that matter, I don't look kindly upon that either.

Meanwhile, if CN passed on Colorful, more power to them. No way it would have flown without a moronic level of editorial anyway.

Seeing how I didn't REALLY give a damn about Colorful's well-being, I wasn't trying to insinuate anything seriously. But besides Gantz's obvious case, those sound sadly about right. Getbackers is Toonami's if anything, anyway.

In this case, they mine as well should have just turned down Wolf's Rain because I'm pretty sure that Madlax or Noir would have done just as well as it.

Atleast the edits, however stupid, were consistent. Only one that distracted was that ridiculous gun crap that was pulled. Getbackers is severely toned down from the manga. I can't recall anyone important bleeding, not even Akabane. And he had blood surrounding him alot in the manga. Hevn and her ludicrously sized **** would be the only real problem I can think of.

I know I'd watch Colorful over other Adult Swim comedy shows like ATHF or Milk-Chan. You know, now that I think about it, AS doesn't really have a lot of good shows of their own. I mean, their best hits are from other networks (FG, Futurama) or the rejects from other networks (Mission Hill, Oblongs, Baby Blues). The only original AS show I kinda like is Venture Bros., and maybe some Birdman...

Have to agree with Beatdigga on this one, personally I rather have Colorful than Milk Chan right now. ADV has a huge library of anime titles, but Williams Street chooses not aquired any big name titles from them. WS knows that whatever they get from ADV, they will have to reformated to match AS network standards.

As in Akane Maniax? Well, it'd be something different. However, I don't think it'll ever happen. Probably a good thing. Next thing you know, CN would be running Mouse and Eiken.

No, We're talking about Maniax.
It's an H show that isn't afraid of letting a little blood fly.

Hence why I said I'd kill for an uncensored release, as it hasn't been licensed and probably will never be. Then again, they've released stuff in the US like Princess 69/Shintaisou Kari, so we'll see.

You and your H

Anyway, considering ADV's funding stuff like Elfen Lied and Gantz (both of which are chock full of blood spray and sex,) I'd have to imagine people will licence anything these days.

Back on topic, it wouldn't suprise me if ADV had pitched Colorful to AS. After all, they tried to pitch Eva to Toonami at one point.

Colorful is pretty mindless, but somehow it manages to be funny despite being entirely reliant on slapstick type humor arising from lonely dudes and their attempts to see panties. Not naked chicks, not boobs, not trying to have sex, JUST seeing panties. In fact here is the typical Colorful short plot:

Guy on a train: *Sees girl in skirt about to recross legs*
Girl in skirt: *begins slowly parting legs to recross*
Guy on a train: :anime:
Girl in skirt: *Legs continue to slowly part exposing a glimmer of panty*
Guy on a train:
Girl in skirt: *Legs fully apart for a brief second exposing full crotch panty shot*
Guy on a train:  ^_______^ *flails arms and snot dangles from nose*

And that's it. Really, that's a typical Colorful situation. Stupid? Yes. Funny? Somehow or another yes. It wouldn't surprise me if it was pitched to CN and they shot it down. It is kind of a one trick pony. And yet Super Milk Chan airs...go figure.

He'd only rant about it if it replaced a show he liked. It replaced Venture Brothers, so unless he likes Venture Brothers, then he wouldn't complain about Milk Chan.

You know, I wonder if Noir could be on Toonami if they replaced all the guns with lasers?

Yeah, but WS hates doing extensive editorial these days. It's tedious, expensive and time consuming, even with the newer technology to do it and even though it's much easier to edit digital cel than a standard cel (no jitter to worry about with digicel.)

Besides, we don't need to see this on CN any time soon:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v96/karlolson/toonamigsg.jpg

or this:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v96/karlolson/toonamigsg2.jpg

and especially not this:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v96/karlolson/toonamigsg3.jpg

Just because something can be edited down, doesn't make it a good idea.

I've heard mostly negative things about Colorful... well until I entered this message board. :D I guess I can't judge until I see it (can't now, my friend sold his copy :() so I won't sweat it much, but yeah it probably would have been a better acquistion than Milk-chan, even if both stink. :p

Now Ping Pong Club, that'd be something I'd like to see pitched to Adult Swim. HAHAHA.

Dear Williams Street,

Pick this show up >>>>>> http://carnage.fanfic.org/nuku02.jpg

This show has action, comedy, and plenty of surprises for anime fans and your general audience. It already has a huge following and is split up into 3 different shows that could play out like Tenchi Muyo once did. Age has nothing to do with the audience's taste since it's considered modern. Plus you'll make a vast amout of money on the merchandise that is currently out or can be developed shortly. It's a win win situation for everyone.

Sincerly,
Nin-Nin69

P.S. By the time you finish reading this, this entire post makes up for the wasted time on your crappy bumpers that prevent me from watching my intros and endings.

So far from the comments I've seen on this show it looks like the usual cliche tasteless Japanese humor. Trying to look at panties! Wow! That's so not been done.

Plus you'll make a vast amout of money on the merchandise that is currently out or can be developed shortly. No they won't. They don't make any money from merchandise. Only the distributor does. That's another reason they, and any network (like Nickelodeon, who doesn't even acquire shows anymore), tend to favor their originals because they can make vast amounts of money by distributing them.

Have you met Ethan Hammond? :D Oh no. Let's not bring this fist-shaking ******bag into the conversation.

Just from their site, which isn't a whole lot. They'd make nothing from selling toys, shirts, DVDs, and crap like that to retail stores around the country. ADV would pocket it all.

I'm glad this show isn't going to AS, or it would probably be the end of the programming block.

Not for content of course, I mean, most of it could probably be shown on TV...but...well, the show sucks ass.To put it nicely.
