Oh my God!I always tend to be a nervous wreck whenever I think of them. I have yet to take them but...I dunno what to do!!It is so horrifying to realize that your entire future depends on this test...I haven't even started preparing for it yet...well atleast I got prep books from the Library today in hopes that they will shed some light on what this test is all about...
So...what do I do?I am in desperate NEED of advice regarding the SATs...ANYTHING at all...
and what if I fail?! :crying:
especially the Math section...:ack:

Just do them. They're easier than you think.

Actually, your entire future doesn't depend on the SATs. Plenty of people have done a lackluster job with them- some actually bombed them completely- and have gone on to have good, respectable careers.

Anyways, I wouldn't worry about it too much. The more you freak out, the harder it will be because you won't be concentrating enough. Just know the basic rules of grammar and algebra/geometry, and do some practice work.

First of all calm down. They're not as bad as you think. The questions/problems in those tests are things you've been learning or have learned already. Take a deep breath and simply solve the problem in front of you. Study. Each day of the SAT's get plenty of rest and eat a healthy breakfast. Those things have always helped me.

Really, just go and take it. It really doesn't have much to do with your future. Once you actually get into College you'll figure out that you're going to have to learn a major portion of the material by yourself through books and peer learning. So in reality you don't have do go to a big school to have a good future. Just get into one you like and don't depend on the school itself to get you anywhere.

I remember taking them. it was not very fun and I remember getting a higher grade in the english portion of it than in the math portion, I think I failed the math portion actually, but oh well I'm more into english any way.

Don't worry about it too much though, just get a good nights sleep before the test and don't tell yourself that you will fail just stay confident and you will do it.

I only took the ACTs. They weren't too bad. The colleges I was sending applications to didn't require the SAT, so I said screw it.

Yeh, that's what I heard. I'm already in preparation though for the SATs even though I'm a frosh. I volunarilary come in early with some other people to do tests. I'm not too worried. I heard they were taking out analogies. I'm happy about this. :)

I think my score was around or above a 1200

and I think I scored higher in english than in math...

they're just tedious, but they ask double negative questions so you have to read things carefully...

however the SAT's do not take into accountibility of other things(i.e. artistic ability or musical ability) so they arn't even on all fronts as a way to judge..

first, the SAT test is not easier than you might think... I don't know what the hell these people are talking about. the math section is relatively simple as long as you pay attention in your math classes. there is a lot of geometry and if you understand that, a lot of the questions will seem like common sense. also, there's a lot of vocab, so you might want to study for that. depending on when you take the SATs, you might have to take the newer version. the new test is 2400 points and includes an essay, or so I've heard.

here are my tips:

- take as many practice tests as you can. the more you get used to the types of questions, the faster your mind will solve them. (and you won't freak out from seeing something unfamiliar)
- get between 8-9 hours of sleep the night before.
- don't cram/study the night before. it won't help anyway.
- don't answer questions if you don't have at least a 50% chance of guessing the right answer.
- eliminating answers you know are wrong can be very helpful in finding the right one.
- skip questions you can't figure out.
- EAT BREAKFAST the day of the test. get some sugar too, it will help your brain. don't consume too much caffeine. it might feel good at first, but the test is long and you'll probably feel groggy when the effect wears off.
- RELAX. stressing out will make thinking a lot more difficult.
- stay focused. the test is very important and you are timed. you can't afford to space out in the middle of the test. like I said, if you can't figure something out, just skip it and move on.
- take the SATs as many times as you can. your score will probably improve by a good deal the second time. and if you have time to take the SATs more than that, do it.

my SAT score was 1390. I'm telling you that so you can decide whether my advice is good or not.
