In the New York scene of Read or Die (airing on AS as I type this), there are various shots of the old World Trade Center. I'm pretty sure this show aired in Japan in 2001, so why are the towers there. Was the show animated before 9/11? If so, couldn't the towers have been edited out?

The show was probably written/storyboarded a while back, and by the time it was animated, they'd been destroyed. Not that I know anything about ROD's production schedule to back that up. But I see no reason why they should change it to erase the towers.

2001-05-23 (Volume 1)
2001-07-18 (Volume 2)
2002-02-06 (Volume 3)

But I see no reason why they should change it to erase the towers. Seconded.

You're kidding, right? Please don't tell me you SUPPORTED all that editing. It sickened me. A terror attack should not have erased a national landmark from movies and cartoons. Anyone responsible for such edits should be beaten with a wooden plank.

Agreed. The last thing WTC incident needed is for the towers to be erased from any forms of entertainment. I never understood why people debated on whether they should erase a movie scene just because it showed the Twin Towers. They debated once on Spiderman movie and, in the end, it didn't make much of a difference.

Uh, because it was on last night and I didn't notice them the last time R.O.D. aired.

They probably left the towers in for two reasons:

1) It's Japan, half a world away from Ground Zero. The Japanese most likely were not nearly affected as much as we were by the attacks.
2) My personal stance on this, and I'm sure a lot of people agree, why bother? In fact, why not KEEP the towers in to HONOR THEIR SACRIFICE? I think it's atrocious that people took the trouble to digitally remove the towers from Spider-Man, as if everyone was trying to FORGET they ever existed instead of keeping the memory alive.

The feature film world can afford it though so they did it. Since the movie took place in New York, they probably wanted to have the city look as accurate as possible.
