Mark Waid/Mike Weiringo on Spider-Man in 2005

"Its official. According to the new Wizard Mark Millar is on the New Thor with Greg Land and JMS is the new writer on Fantastic Four. Also Mark Waid and Mike Wierengo are going to be on a new Spider-man Book. Lots of great stuff revealed in this Wizard."

First the DC ALL-STAR stuff and now this? It looks like Wizard will actually have great content for a change. The better news? Mark Waid and Mike Weiringo on a Spidey book! Yes!

Love Waid/Weiringo, but I question the need for another new Spidey book with all that's out there through all the Marvel lines. The question is if this is just another book or if there's a concept attached to it. Either way, I'm probably on board. Good news about JMS taking over for Fantastic Four after Waid leaves. His work on Supreme Power is superb, but I'm still a little iffy on if I'll stay with the title or not.

Waid and Weiringo's two-part Spider-Man story in Fantastic Four was a gas and a half, so I expect good things from their Spidey book. I'm a little annoyed that they're being given a new title, instead of just turning Spectacular over to them, but Marvel does love their #1 issues, so no surprise there.

Heh... I just started reading a Spider-Man book last spring. I decided that I wanted to read a 616 Spidey title, since I tend to relate more to the older version of Peter Parker, and although none of the titles looked perfect to me at the time, I settled on Marvel Knights: Spider-Man. If I had known about this, I'd have just waited a year and gotten my Spidey fix from TPBs and the Essentials.

D'oh.

Hmmm...mixed feelings. Waid does his work best when he can do pretty much as he pleases with the characters (examples being THE FLASH and FANTASTIC FOUR). If he's accountable to the other Spidey books, it's questionable how much he'll be able to play with. Still, I love me the Waid (just like to see him get back and work with the big guns in the DCU).

Well Spectacular is ending since that was Jenkins' baby, I wonder if Knights Spidey will end after Millar's run. JMS on Fantastic 4 seems suiting, but I haven't really cared for his writing on Amazing Spoidey lately. Hopefully going to a sci-fi book will be more fitting for him. Milllar going to Thor may be enough to convince me to pick it up. And that Greg Land seems to be the new golden boy over at the House of Ideas, hopefully he won't fail to impress on a title that demands good visuals.

Yay! Weiringo back on Spidey. Awesome. :D I loved his work in Sensational Spider-Man. His art really gave the book a nice identity... and up until then, the book really didn't HAVE much of an identity.

I think it'll be interesting to see Waid/Weiringo on Spider-Man.. My only dismayed point is the thought of another new Spidey book. I'd rather have them take over Spectacular or MK: Spidey. It'll be interesting to see what their title is called and what it'll be like.

Waid/Weiringo on Spider-Man would bring some might needed light and playfulness to some rather dark books lately. Spider-Man isn't the upbeat character he usually is. Look at his main titles this year all of which have took a darker turn for the worse. The only book that has handled it well is Marvel Knight: Spider-Man. The other two handled the darker aspect of Spider-Man rather poorly and ended up telling some bland tales (ie: "Sins Past"). A light title with Waid and Weiringo is just what the books need right now.

Let me go read it again.I wouldn't mind it if the book was primarily humor-based. Amazing is pretty serious these days, and Marvel Knights: Spider-Man is supposed to be the "grim-n-gritty" title in the line (as grim as Spidey gets, anyway), so a lighter book might not be a bad idea. I think a Justice League International, "Bwa-ha-ha!" style of book could be just what the doctor ordered.

I think the reason the two parter with Spidey was so humor oriented was that Fantastic Four had just come off of two dark story arcs, and was about to go into several more dark story arcs. There needed to be some comic relief in there.

I never saw spiderman as a dark char. So I don`t like it when writers try to turn him into one.

I don't mean over-the-top comedy, but just a lighter comic with a fair share of humor. I'd like to see Spider-Man cracking jokes left and right and his bad luck putting him in humorous sitations. I think that can work just fine without making the book over the top. It's worked for a good part of the character's existence and I don't see why it wouldn't continue to work. I think we really need a lighter tone title to balance the darker tones the books have beenusing lately.
