1. Buy a bottle of Jurgan's or some other good Hand Lotion.
2. Wash your hands, every time, a short period after you come in contact with some public thing, that someone else has touched..
3. stay away at least 3-5 feet from caughers
4. Use hand lotion to keep hands from drying out
5. Drink plenty of liquids,
6. Brocholi, eat 5 times a week, best of all vegtables to increase immune system (Carrots are also very good cold and flu preventers)
7 Vit C "may" work, 2 or 3 500 mgs a day
8. If you get a cold, flu, and are in a public place, always cover mouth with tissue when you caugh. (Do you really need to pass it on)
9. Exercize 4-5 times a week Don't lose it now, 30 minutes of medium to medium fast walking a day will do it (you can do it in parts, 15 minutes at a time)
If you get the "flu" (includes lots of aches and pains, and temp over 100, why pass it on, stay home, get plenty of rest, take meds, drink plenty of liquids, eat well, wait it out)
NEVER BRING YOUR HANDS IN CONTACT WITH YOUR FACE, UNLESS THEY HAVE BEEN WASHED, (SEE STEP 2) ESPECIALLY YOUR EYES, EARS, MOUTH, OR NOSE. You may just let this one go, which is easier
folllowing most of these steps or putting up with a bad cold or flu if it can be prevented....Stuart

I think this is the most important one. it is very easy to catch a cold from touching your eyes.

I've heard that green tea and ginseng boost the immune system as well as vitamin C.

My immune system is virtually non-existant, due to a ton of allergies (too many to even list) and asthma, so I usually end up getting whatever's going around. Lately I've only had a few colds and a mild throat infection, but it's only a matter of time before I catch a flu. However, keeping most of this in the back of my mind may help.

My immune systems alright. But last year I caught the flu and boy did it stink! Good tips, oldtoonguy. Especially the "wash your hands" one.

That's some good advice, Stuart. So far, all I had was a mild cold, which I caught about a little over a week ago (I'm all better now).

I'm doomed. I've caught my second cold in as many months. I do many of those things except hand washing, I'm in such constant contact with public things that it's just impossible. I always expect one at the beginning of winter and another one in the spring. This new one is just an extra joy of life (Sarcasm, a great way to deal, huh)

airborne works really well You mean as a way to disseminate pathogens?
Or being airborne prevents colds, and is that with or without deploying your chute?

...[edit out some great tips!]

...

I agree. The above one is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT! That is the best way to avoid a cold, do not touch your face with your hands (unless they are washed of course).

Also another tip people always forget. Get enough sleep! Normal human needs 8 hours of sleep. If you don't get enough sleep, your body can't rest and lowers it's resistance to colds.

Or if you want an even more natural cure, just stay happy mooded even when sick. It works. Being sick isn't natural, and allowing yourself to stress or think bad thoughts too much causes sickness, or worsens it.

That's Dr. Saiya's words.

Thanks for the great tips, Stuart! :) As an office clerk, I use equipment that is notorious for spreading germs: the telephone, keyboard, computer mouse, fax machine, etc. CNN.com has a really informative article, "Is your desk making you sick?" (http://www.cnn.com/2004/HEALTH/12/13/cold.flu.desk) According to a study by the University of Arizona, the typical office worker's desk has hundreds of times more bacteria per square inch than an office toilet seat. If that's not disturbing enough, desks, phones and other private surfaces are also prime habitats for the viruses that cause colds and flu.

Here are the key pieces of advice from the article:

1. Wipe down your work area daily with disinfectant wipes. This reduces bacteria significantly.

2. Wash your hands frequently with soap and hot water for 18 to 20 seconds.

3. Stay home from work if you are sick, to avoid spreading germs to your coworkers.

I've been dodging flu, cold and a horrendous vomit from all orrifices bug which has being going around the UK. Not nice. Generally my best advice is stay away from EVERYONE and lock yourself in your room. Works a charm.. I hope. :)

Those tips are way to extreme. I want you to ignore them and take the advice of some one very wise. Listen to me, all you need to do is drink 3 cups of orange juice a day. That's it.
