It's Once Again Time For a CNF Talkback
Ed! Edd! Eddy! on ALL DECEMBER LONG!

Synopsis (Credit: Matt Wilson)
This special is not about jawbreakers or get-rich-quick schemes, but Eddy is still the same old egomaniac. When he sneaks a peak at his presents early and they all turn out to be clothes, Eddy panics and starts a devious campaign to get presents from the other kids in the cult-de-sac, while Ed and Double D try to convince him of the other, less materialistic virtues of Christmas.

NOTES
I tired to make it so you can talk about this whenever. Not just tonight since it will air a ton over the next few weeks
For 12/03/04 it premieres at 8pm. It Reruns at 11:30pm and 3am.
Matt has reviewed it! See here! (http://forums.toonzone.net/showthread.php?t=127918)
I have also seen it, and here are my thoughts:
"It was freakin awesome.
The Animation has improved [and it was already great] the color is now sharper and at its best, and the characters were at their best.
Awesome episode. One of the best of EEnE."
Let's Begin!
Eh..the color was better before.
Anyway, Johnny's creepy.

Heh. "Rolf does not take requests."
And this episode continues to show just how evil Plank is. And everyone is really good so far.

Eddy's scams to get into Johnny and Rolfs houses were pretty good but the best part so far was the weirdness of Ed carrying the chimney into his room! whats with the utters though?

Eddy just shot himself in the foot, and Nazz was so willing too.

yeah Eddy really blew it with Nazz! what was he thinking?? the special was really good except for the ending why must the Kankers always win?

Eh..the color was better before.
Better before what? The show's been digitally colored since season 4. They chose a winter mood palette for this special. Why wouldn't they? And if you look at various episodes in the series, they all have various color settings for different times of the day. It's night time in the winter, so those are the colors they chose.
Actually if you look at the 'fake clip show' episode you can see what I mean too, where one of the "clips" is set at sunset and everyone has different coloring/shading than they usually do.
I don't know, it just looked too bright to me. I guess it's probably just because I haven't watched EEnE in a while.

Interesting special, pretty funny all the way through although I think some characters were pretty out of character.
Almost puts me in the holiday spirit!

Excellent animation, a tight pace that made the 30 minutes go by fast, and a unique take on a somewhat unoriginal idea. Everyone was true to character, and each house provided new annoyances. I probably found Nazz's the funniest. "You know what happens when someone stands under the mistletoe..." (Eddy spits the egg nog on her)
Only flaw? It wasn't quite as funny as most Ed, Edd, & Eddy episodes, although I laughed hard at the recreation of the birth of Jesus at the end. Didn't see that coming at all. :D GRADE: A
EDIT: This is tied for my favorite animated Christmas specials with "You Can't Squeeze Cheer From a Cheese Log" and "The Santa Experience".

Not the most exciting thing in the world, but overall it was good. The best part was Eddy at Jimmy's house. Jimmy is so weak! :p It would have been cool to see him take the situation into his own hands though, but what else do you expect from him?
I think it was a typical Ed episode to begin with anyway. Eddy still doesn't seem to have much faith for others, and the Kankers still love the Eds, you think they may get into dating someone else in the Valentine's special though? (try and see Kevin with one of them for a minute)
And it did take me a bit to get the whole idea of the gifts before the end. Good knockoff though. And remember, don't forget Boxing Day! (well, the Canadian people that is)

It was ok. I really liked it when Eddy found the true meaning of Christmas. I didn't except him to go back his normal self after the gifts were delivered by Santa.

I loved it. My favorite part was when Eddy discovered the true meaning of Christmas, only to dump it a few minutes later by stealing Santa's sack of presents.
I wanna decorate my house like Johnny's.

Didn't like the ending, but the rest was amazing. But, I like how they sneak in the true true true meaning of Christmas in the end.

The visual gags like the birth of Christ scene and Ed moving the chimney were just hilarious. The rest of the funny moments were very character based, Nazz had probably the best scene im my opinion.
The writing in general is really good, for a show that goes so over the top they really do capture that sort of vulgar nature that comes with teenage boys. Eddy's the best example of this, "Your touching my utter," is just something that my dumber friends of my Pokemon Red playing days would say.
The only two things that seemed a little off were Double Dee and the music. Double Dee kind of lost some of the development as a smartass that he's gotten over recent episodes, minor gripe though. The music was a little odd to me, not bad really, it was different, not sure if it's a good different or not.
It was ok. I really liked it when Eddy found the true meaning of Christmas. I didn't except him to go back his normal self after the gifts were delivered by Santa.
I thought the lame cliche dialogue had an almost sarcastic tone to it that I couldn't help to see the "Gotcha!" coming.

I liked this, worked on both a holiday and general EEnE level. They did a great job of giving everyone their fair screen time, though I found Nazz and Jimmy to be the most entertaining; even though you could kind of predict Eddy ruining his chances to be with Nazz, it was executed well enough that it was still really funny. Even the Kankers were good (mold, franks and cents, and fur =( ).

Great animation, nice artwork overall, some excellent background music when it wasn't the usual jazz riffs that I'm so used to hearing that I completely tune them out. Solid writing for most part, each segment was brisk and keep things flowing. The scenes focusing on the Eds themselves were the best, and in fact this episode could have used a few more of those; the Eds are so well-developed as characters and three of them play off of each other so fantastically at this point in the series, that honestly, the other kids of the cul-de-sac are kind of starting to lose their collective spark, at least in my eyes. There's a reason why the show is called "Ed, Edd n' Eddy". Yeah, the ending was weak and unoriginal, but I'm pretty much convinced at this point that every cartoon writer ON EARTH has completely forgotten how to write a decent ending, so in some ways it was a foregone conclusion. So for the most part, an excellent episode that shows just how far EEnE has come as a series.
That was wonderful in so many ways.

Alright, this special was perfect. I know that's hard to say in animation terms, but... just perfect. The AKA guys have really outdone themselfs this time. The characters look better than ever (Even know their colors are all slightly lighter), backgrounds are more detailed, hell I felt really sorry for Eddy after the Kevin thing, walking in the snow sad. The characters are all the same, just as I always loved them, Great pacing, great writting, great everything possible. Great job AKA, you guys are awesome!

Did anyone else notice how visually detailed the backgrounds are, animation wise anyway. They still had their EEnE touch, but they had small little details, like flashing lights. One major example of this is when Eddy is on Kevin's doorstep, look in the background, theres a house with smoke actually animated and moving out of the chimney of the house.

I loved it,I've been a fan of the show since the beginning. I liked it better when Double D was sarcastic too Eddy, but I also like it when he's sweet and caring toward his friends people were questioning whether or not Eddy and Double D were really still true friends well theirs your answer people. Double D helped Eddy in this entire episode proving that he was a true good friend to Eddy, not so much as the other way around though, but eh Eddy's always been like that but he's still a very funny, and a very likable character. Is it just me or have the writers been picking on poor Double D lately in the past newer episodes he seems to always get hurt more than any other character in the episode take today’s special that was aired, poor guy, got thrown into Ed's brick wall and got hurt pretty dang bad. Than he got stuck to a board at the end, because of his Angel costume, than in "Ed Marx the Spot" Double D got hurt bad in that episode. I don't know he just seems to be the one character the writers like seeing get hurt, I feel bad for him. He's my favorite character of the show and it hurts me inside seeing him get hurt that badly. Oh sorry going off topic, any who the animation was brilliant, the story, loved it and Eddy finally finding the true meaning of Christmas was great except for the ending after he Stoll the presents oh well. And yah Eddy defiantly lost his chance with Nazz, she was trying to kiss him for peat’s sake and he spits egg nog out at her causing her to kick the poor guy out. My guess is that the Valentines Day special will have Double D winning Nazz over or something like that. The characters were all great, can't wait for that Valentines Day special which should be the next one to air soon...Any ways great episode I give it an A++

I checked this out tonight and this was actually the first full episode of Ed, Edd and Eddy that I have ever watched. It was an interesting experience because in some ways it felt like a 180 from the comedic cartoons I'm used to seeing these days. Most of the funniest shows seem to have very stylized designs and they rely on the writing for laughs as opposed to the animation. This really makes Ed, Edd and Eddy stand out in comparison. The writing isn't as strong, but it is much more animated than most of the shows seen today. The animation is actually a major (if not the major) part of the humor instead of relying on the writing to push all the jokes through.
As for the episode itself, I dunno if I have much to add. I think I'll just say that my favorite character at this point is Ed.

Okay, it's 2:40am and I've now seen the blasted thing three times tonight, and it still made me just as happy the third time as it did the first time...what a -great- Christmas special! As somone's already pointed out, it just works so well both as an Eds episode -and- a Christmas special, I love how they managed to blend the wonderfully quirky EEnE humour with that softer "Christmas sentimentality"...and the fact that they were able to pull back from the sentimental gooeyness just as it was reaching its peak made it all just -perfect- -- it wouldn't have been a proper Ed, Edd n Eddy episode if Eddy -hadn't- stolen that sack of holiday loot!
And I have to say, I think the way aka is using the Kankers has improved so much over the years - yes, the Kankers -are- often still that deus ex machina (erm, well, "demon ex machina"?) used to end the show quickly when no other reason presents itself, but even so their own personalities have developed over the seasons to the point where I find them all strangely likable to some extent - and more importantly, aka's been able to pull that same ending out of their hat time and again because they do give it a different, fun twist each time (mold, franks & cents, and fur? I'm -still- cracking up over that =)
Anyway...-fabulous- special, absolutely worth the wait and it just makes me all the -more- excited for Seasons 5 and 6 than I'd already been! In the meantime, though, I've got a new holiday goal to keep me occupied for a little while, at least: I WILL learn all the words to the Yeshmiyek song, oh yes! =)

Eh, it was really good, but I'm just not in a EEnE mood. It was still good enoguh to have me laughing, but, I don't know, if I wouldve watched more EEnE before this, I would probably love this. Anyway, B+

But the animation was excellent, and more funny than the actual dialogue. My favorite part was when Ed used Double D' face as a road. That gives me idea. Step aside Steve Fox.

Holy cow.
Christrian/Jesus/"The Real Meaning of Christmas" references in a cartoon?
That one shocked me.
It's awesome that they have the guts to put that in there though. Bravo.
Ed and "Double D" are so likable, it's hilarious how much in contrast they are with Eddy. Ed, while being a little slow, does try to help to make Christmas better for all. He's got a good heart. And Double D...he reminds me so much of me it's scary. (The whole "voice of reason" in utter madness thing)

This episode proves that holiday specials CAN be entertaining. And CAN make you feel. And CAN be interesting, compelling, and funny. First off I'd like to say the music in this one...was brilliant. It had much more feeling and life to it, making you actually feel compassion for the characters.
The storyboarding/animation, it seemed way more feature quality than most other episodes. The range of expressions, although making the characters almost always off model, was animated in such a way that was fluent and way more consistent than any other cartoon on TV right now.
Overall this episode was the best one ever. The way the characters expressed themselves made me feel happy or sad. I can remember feeling so very sombre just as Eddy when he was walking around in the snow. It was just colored and animated in such a way that resembled the range of drama with Charlie Brown in a Peanuts special. Only EEE did it 10X greater.

The writing isn't as strong, but it is much more animated than most of the shows seen today. The animation is actually a major (if not the major) part of the humor instead of relying on the writing to push all the jokes through.I don't know, I think the show doesn't use writing as its base as much as other cartoons. Most of the humor in the show ranges from visual based or a mix of visuals, writing, and acting.
However in general when compared to other shows centered around tweens this is probably the best written. Edd, Eddy, Kevin, and Naz are probably the best examples of what I'm trying to describe becuase these characters really do act like twelve year olds. It's hard to really notice because the show goes to so many extremes but if you watch an episode and just concentrate on Eddy for the whole episode you get flashbacks to that really annoying kid in the 7th grade who told really vulgar jokes and constantly complained about his teachers failing him for not doing his homework. Kevin will also give you flashbacks to kids you used to know. The writers are able to capture the ego, selfishness, and extreme emotions of children.

Does anyone know exactly how long this lasted for? I remember the TV listings gave an hour to it but there were some other shorts on after the initial airing. I wonder what they would edit out of it in the future, although I would not recommend editing anything. It's tough to think of something to drop for time purposes.
I mention this because some Peanuts specials have been edited for time concerns, and that just upsets me. I hope they don't dump the "bubble gum card" part of the Xmas special, I still use that routine on people.

I agree with the general opinion here, I thought it was very good. Ed moving the chimny was funny and seeing all the different Christmasas through the neighborhood was interesting. I kind of didn't like the ending though.
Still though, great special.
Who else noticed that we finally saw one of Lee's eyes?
We saw one of Lee's eyes in a previous episode. I think it was when the Eds needed to get an anchor to trade for Johnny's clams. The name of the episode escapes me at the moment, though.

Does anyone know exactly how long this lasted for? I remember the TV listings gave an hour to it but there were some other shorts on after the initial airing. Based on the counter on my VCR tape, it lasted about 26.5 minutes - that comes from its premiere (when it aired as part of that 2-hour "Christmas Special" block, along with How the Grinch Stole Christmas, The Night Before Christmas (I think? I missed that one), and the EEnE episode, "Fa, La, La, La Ed")...And I checked the timing the first time it repeated as well (when it was given only a 1/2 hour slot according to my TV listings) - it started at 10:30CST, and with commercials ended at 11:02 by my clock; based on that (and to a lesser extent the fact that I didn't notice anything cut out the second time, although obviously I could be wrong) my guess is that CN is intelligent enough to -not- be cutting it up, at least not this year =)

The bad:
- It is not the best EEnE episode of all-time.
- It is not the best Christmas special of all-time.
The good:
- Although I also enjoyed Nazz's scene, short and sweet yet served its purpose... little Jimmy had my favorite. Constructing an entire gingerbread village on his dining room table... only to have it eaten by Eddy.
- I actually liked the Kankers in this one... the 'Three Kings' reference to the token 'they get their Eds' ending. Priceless.
As I said, not the best in either category listed above, but it's in the top quarter or so. "Jingle Jingle Jangle" gets a 3.5 out of 4.

Johnny Bravo was the only other show to bother doing that, the real meaning of Christmas.
I don't mean to be offensive to the Jews, Muslims, atheists and whoever else, but, Christmas is our celebration. I hate how people think Santa is all there is to Christamas.

Well, I just see Xmas specials as a reward for staying alive yet another year. It's just coincidence that that time happens to be next to Christmas. It's the animators excuse to make extra long episodes with a moral.
