View Full Version : When Anime and Cartoon Cartoons Collide

Not a huge fan of cartoon cartoons, but I found this doujinshi that incorporates almost all of them from the Time Squad to Courage, Samurai Jack and Billy and Mandy. Even a few Nicktoons show up.

The art blew my mind and it seems to be almost totally PG. Even if you hate anime this is worth a look. If this has been posted before, my apologies.

I think I saw this before, but I don't quite remember it. But, that is freak'n sweet, I must say. But, I found myself saying DeDeDe instead of DeeDee.

It was called "Whole lot of cartoon cameo's" or something like that. It disappeared off the bottom a few days ago methinks. But it'll probably keep popping back up again ^^

I love this comic, and hope that the Teen Titans will show up eventually. (They ARE mentioned.)

Surely this dude can't enjoy EVERY cartoon in existance! :DWell he hasn't shown much interest in Disney toons... like Kim Possible... which he should, she would be good in the story

Obviously he's not going to sell it since both the art and story are incomplete at the moment.

And even if he could, it would infringe copyright laws.

(inside my mind) How many times do people have to mention this comic!?

Yeah that's a very good point which I totally overlooked >.< He would have to get permission from dozens of different companies and pay them commissions most likely.

That's cool. The little mini-series was cute.

Bleedman's work is wicked awesome. Everytime i think about his stuff my green-eye monster keeps on growing. :D

Solution: Make an offical Bleedman Talkback thread and make it a sticky thread. ;)

This is surprisingly well done. Though turning Dee Dee into a living android ala Cutey Honey is kinda freaky.

Well, that's if he ever complteles "Cutey Dede". Course then again, that meens that 'she's a ripe target for the DSC but...

That's the attitude in Japan. In America, Disney would sue you for painting their characters on the kindergarten wall without permission. :p

Tak Mazé

They'd lose more money than they'd gain by sueing these artists in Japan since these amateur manga artists come in abundence. Whereas in the states their population of artists (for this style) is less dense and thus sueing discourages them from breaking the law or something... I dunno. It's common practice in Japan whereas in the US, copyright laws are way more tight.

That doesn't seem to stop Doshinji artists...But do they print their titles? On the Internet, there's that right, like that Flash banner we have. On the other hand, when it goes to the public, it's any company's ballgame.

Huh? What's that in lawyer-speak? :D

Huh? What's that in lawyer-speak? :D No one's profiting from the PPG doujunishi if it's being distributed online, so it's not an issue.

If someone was to print this thing and sell it at a comic book store, Nickeloden ,DC comics, and Cartoon Network would have every right to sue.

I've been following the story on dA. This guy is frickin' amazing. He has over 1,450,000 pageviews on his dA account, and he's only been a deviantARTIST since April 22nd

I've seen this before, it's cool, but for some reason it just makes me sad. It just makes me feel like all my crappy drawings are MORE crap than as crappy as they already are.:sad::crying:
Heh heh. That's probably why I don't like online manga-ish type things. But I like this one. :)

I'm gonna go against the grain and admit I don't care for the
bleedman crossover comic because:
A.) If I were to do a Cartoon Cartoon cross-over,I'd draw the
characters the way they look on T.V.,and not as some ugly-
looking Anime crap! The anime style makes the characters look
hideous-looking(not cool-looking),almost-unrecognizable,and
a little too-defined(Mandy has a nose,PPG having fingers,noses,
etc.)!
B.)Because it's done as more of an anime,the story's a little too
dark! I'm sure if Cartoon Network ever did do a crossover of all
their characters, they wouldn't look anything like this!
Just my rant!

I agree with you for the most part, but I wouldn't go as far as calling it "ugly-looking anime crap." Most, if not all, of these characters just don't work in an anime style and are unrecognizable and too defined (Prof. Utonium for example) as you say. That's is why I've been avoiding this doujinshi for a while. However, I do think the guy draws very well (the newer pages I mean, the older pages aren't anything to scream about) and I would enjoy his work better if they aren't fan arts of the CN cartoons characters.

Its nice to see his charas in his own style. and I like fanart. He is very creative.
But what bothers me is the comments he gets when his link is posted in forums and on DA.

Ppl saying "you draw better then CN and NICK etc etc this is how it should be done, yada yada i wish it looked like this then i'd watch it"
When they can't seem to get it through there heads that CN and NICK don't have a "style"; its the people (the creators) behind the show; that is their style. and thats how they drew "their" characters.

If CN and NICK started making shows and had only one person making up the style for everyshow...it would seem like (for example) Bleedmens work, there would be no variety or change, but it would look good. The last shows characters would look the same as the other...and story or not I'm sure it would be boring. IMO

Even CLAMP changes style to fit how they draw their new comics. Even though you can easily tell who its by.

The comments seem to focus on the fact that "its anime/manga style" and there for its cooler then the original; there is just no sense of liking it for any other reason, and he deserves better then that, the guy has a talent, and gives credit for his inspiration. I'm no purist, but if someone is doing fanart/fan comic, then it should be veiwed as such.
I draw a lot of fanart of comics/manga/animations I like in my style, because I want to see what it looks like. And its nice to brake away from how it looks originally. Thats what makes Fanart great, you never get tired of it because it will never look like the last guys/girls.
