This week's episode is better, much, than last week's double-presentation.

The first one didn't make as much sense, but it was pretty good at times, especially Yaz's accordian skills. But the second part was good. I liked the Willy Wonka parody.

I liked the third part too, although I would have liked to see a different way to get the crowd out of line. Overall it was about as good as last week's.

"Good, now I can move on to my modeling career." That had me cracking up. Apparently Kaz is not just a greedy manager but a bit a fruit as well. (Unless Yumi imagined that part.)

The first and last parts were great, especially the first! But, I actually fell asleep during the second for about 3-4 minutes, so I missed the middle of it. It was a good episode otherwise though.

I just turned it on and there's this guy/gal with long blue hair jamming with a microphone pole instead of a guitar and I don't know what to make of it.

This show has got excellent timing, but it's just not entertaining in anyway whatsoever. they just need some new writer--heck they need a whole new staff.

Ami's Secret - good! clown Ami looked silly but for a good cause the bandiversary! those cakes looked cool!

Taffy Trouble - lots of laughs with this one like the taffy machine having a mind of its own and Kaz trying to make them pay rent

Dance A Go-Go - the best one of the bunch! I was surprised when the tour bus turned into a jet and sent them around the world to learn weird dance styles hehe Yumi turned out to be a good dancer with her rockstar style and the end was real funny so hopefully Yumi get her "prize" :p

This show doesn't really irritate me; it just doesn't seem like my thing. If I were a kid I'd like it better, although I probably wouldn't... "appreciate" the live action segments as much. :nurse:

Other than that (especially Yumi), my favorite parts are when a Puffy song gets thrown into the mix.

Run-of-the-mill kid show with a japanophile twist. Cute, but nothing special.

I swear I saw atleast two of the original plots before. This show earns a C.

The Candy Plot - I love Lucy, the exact same thing were Lucy and Ethel get job in a candy factory. The men and women decide to switch roles so this has Fred and Ricky in the kitchen. Exact same idea too about eating the candy. And the ending was funnier where the men bought the women chocalates to say they were sorry.

The Bandiversy Plot - dunno but I heard it somewhere

OK, so this weekend's the first time since moving last August that I've gotten a chance to see CN---and *yikes*, what changes hath been wrought--- most particularly this offering, first heard of... the day before yesterday, when I saw ads for it plastered all across Chicago's city buses/bus stops (yep, CN's willing to advertise its shows in the nation's big cities....).

Anyway, apparently someone decided to give the Japanese singers behind the Teen Titans' catchy theme song their own cartoon.... which still strikes me as a bit odd an inspiration for a spinoff. Then again, if it weren't for the early 90's Back to the Future cartoon, we might not have Bill Nye the Science Guy (who started off in TV with little two-minute backup segments on that show... which I'd be willihng to pay for on DVD as a box set, *cough* *cough*).

My impression of this show, just from this episode: probably a "C". While not the dreadful depths of "Pokemon"/"Yu-Gi-Oh"/<insert 30-minute-toy-ad-import-here>, and had a few amusing jokes, it still left this more-than-a-"bit of a fruit" (who isn't planning a modeling career) scratching his head and going "huh?!", particularly the animation style.

The episodes themselves:
First one: Circus jokes. Cakes shaped like their heads. OK...

Second one: Yep, "I Love Lucy" did this one as a classic plotline---IIRC, Lucy and Ethel were trying to prove to their husbands that they could do work outside the home (while the husbands prove they could do housework---this *was* the 1950's...). Of course, wacky hijinks erupted at their candy factory jobs. On this show, though, eh...

Third one: OK, the title alone was amusing enough ("<insert word here>-a-go-go"... funny phrase...). But that's about it----a lot of the rest of it, like the above, left me scratching my head.

The live-action segments of the Puffy Yuppie Armani, uh, however it's spelled, were cute.

And that's it. Probably won't be tuning back into this show when next I see CN (which'll likely be Christmas).

-B.

Something that kind of bugs me... Sure, Puffy AmiYumi are fairly popular in America, but not to the extent this show seems to suggest. For example, Willy Wonka being one of their biggest fans?

But, oh well... it's just a cute little cartoon.

To say the Taffy episode was a take off of I Love Lucy prooves you didn't watch it. That's what I thought it would be from the previews, and found that the actual episode only had the actual not keeping up with the candy machine, and that bit wasn't pushed like every other show that took that bit off.

All in all, I still liked it! I love the cuteness, although I think Ami's a bit unusual with her love for the circus. lol!

I noticed the I Love Lucy parody as well...this episode sucked bad. I didn't laugh once.

ditto....new and better plot please. some ideas can never "become original" no matter HOW MANY ways it is tweaked. this show is pretty much pointless. every episode i swear Ami is saying something about how "being a rock star is so great!" what the crap? who cares? they aren't even really rock stars. they are more of a pop group trying to come off as punk. but it's just not working. AT ALL.

Ami is probably one of the prepiest most annoying characters i have ever viewed. even clover from totally spies is better than Ami.......and she's not even funny she's just stupid. however i did give this a B rating because i suppose that's just the way it's supposed to be. A pointless little japanese cartoon that has segments 4 minutes long for starstruck drama queen high schoolers. So i suppose for what they have to work with....they didn't do half bad.

Missing the chance to review last week's premiere because of the holidays, we move on to Episode 3 of this show... which is oddly amusing.

"Ami's Secret":
There's an interesting side job... Ami as a clown! There has to be a better way to earn money to throw an anniversary party!

"Taffy Trouble":
Kaz stands out with forcing the girls to pay rent on their tour bus. Also, an obvious Willy Wonka reference... and Ami/Yumi loving their work!

"Dance-A-Gogo":
Now that's a brutal dance-off! Oh, and if Yumi wants something, you better give it to her or you're in a whole lot of trouble!

I haven't read the reviews from last week, but Grey Delisle (Yumi) in her Mandy-style voice and Janice Kawaye (Ami) in her Jenny-like voice seem to fit... though I would be hardpressed to make a direct comparison to Yumi and Ami themselves voicewise. I just don't have the knowledge to make it.

Overall, the show does enough to make me smile and occasionally smile. It's enough to keep me tuned in every week, but so far, I won't be crying if I miss the occassional episode here and there. At least not yet.

I gave it a B. I liked it, but I couldn't bring myself to watch it EVERY week.

I've been a Puffy fan since way back in '96 during one of my trips to Japan (used to live there too). I had to watch this show to check it out. I can't believe I watched the whole thing. It was like a train wreck, I just couldn't divert my eyes. My daughters and I just sat on the couch the first night with our mouths open. We kept talking about changing channels or going to do something else in the other end of the house, but kept on watching anyway. I guess that means we like it.

We even watched it over the Thanxgiving weekend while we were in hotel on our way to Chicago. There must be something hypnotic about it.

There is something hypnotic about it. Maybe it's the animation style and that they're drawn so cutely.
