I was watching some old Looney Tunes cartoons, a collection of the American History stuff, and I noticed something. Most (if not all) the cartoons about the American Civil War were from the point of view of the Southerners. THe Northerners were always (or mostly) the "bad guys," whether it was a Bugs vs Sam or Sylvester vs Tweety. I mean, sometimes Bugs would be the Northerner but he was the invader and the show would be the POV of Sam.
It reminded me of other Southern themes in other Looney Tunes cartoons like the one of the dog who always is looking for a home and one show he found a plantation.
Maybe you can remember similar Looney Tunes where a character says, "A Yankee!" in a fearful or disgusted manner.
I couldn't help wonder if the cartoon was poking fun at one side or the other or both, if there was a reason for this type of humor or not. Am I reading into this too much?
