Hiya, I was just wondering, if you had to sing karaoke, what would you sing? I hate to let others hear me sing, because I hate my voice (singing and talking) so yeah. . . but if I had to, I'd sing either an Alanis Morissette song, or Call Me by Blondie.
What about you guys?
Obviously nothing where I'd have to belt out high notes. There are a few I think would work well for me-
Sublime "What I Got"
Uncle Kracker "In a Little While"
Czar Gato

Anything where the background music is so loud and obnoxious that you can't hear my voice.

I'll go all out and ask them to play some GNR. I can do the Axl voice without much trouble.

Possibly "Green Grass And High Tides" by The Outlaws (Southern Rock) or "Lawnchairs" by Our Daughter's Wedding (Electro Synth Pop). When I was little,I did karaoke to Saigon Kick's "Love Is On The Way" and English Beat's "Mirror In The Bathroom".

Huh. I'm a rock singer, y'know... So this might mean some fun.
Sublime - "What I Got"
Seether - "Broken" or "69 Tea"
Limp Bizkit - "N 2Gether Now" (I'd need my bud Balloon to help me with this one...Too bad he can't sing.)
Fuel - "Quarter"
Tapout
11-08-2004, 02:31 AM
Metallica - Orion
Sketch
11-08-2004, 03:18 AM
Linkin Park - Faint
The Turtles - So Happy Together
The Beatles - Help
And in Japanese...
Orange Range - Viva Rock
And in general I'd probably sing the parody version of any song I could find that had a parody.

I'd have to sing something funky, with a stone groove. So probably something by George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic. Preferably "Knee Deep" or "Atomic Dog."

Probably nothing they'd actually have. But...
The Beatles - No Reply, You've Got To Hide Your Love Away, The Night Before, Maxwell's Silver Hammer, Oh! Darling (that'd be a fun, if not pleasant-sounding, one), Something, Yes It Is, Real Love... I guess I'll stop there.
Yoko Kanno / The Seatbelts - Call Me Call Me (I'd probably butcher it, though), Rain (ditto), You Make Me Cool, Words That We Couldn't Say,
Audioslave - I Am the Highway
Newsboys - Breakfast, Entertaining Angels, Thrive
Queens of the Stone Age - You Would Know, The Lost Art of Keeping a Secret, Auto Pilot, Better Living Through Chemistry, Go With the Flow, Another Love Song, In My Head (OMG I'm current)
System Of A Down - Highway Song
Devo - Beautiful World
Earthsuit - Said the Sun to the Shine
Macrosick - Prize (if you actually know this song, you get MAAAAAD props), We Never Started
Mute Math - Peculiar People
N*E*R*D - Maybe
KoRn - Make Me Bad, Helmet In the Bush, I'm Hiding, No One's There
dc Talk - Red Letters, Supernatural
TobyMac - Atmosphere
Kevin Max - Existence
Nine Inch Nails - The Fragile

Anything Daft Punk, I suppose. According to my friends, I sing a good version of Face to Face.

I can do "Wherever You Will Go" by The Calling pretty well.
Other than that, I can't sing well.
What's ironic is that I can rap.

Oh, I forgot. I'd also do Bentframe Comedy's Star Warz Gangsta Rap. I could probably use the "Gangsta's Paradise" instrumental, which I think is a karaoke standard. That would actually sound pretty cool, I think. Actually, I guess rapping anything over that would sound pretty cool.

Oh yeah I would have listed a lot of Christian songs but the best I could hope they would have is some P.O.D. or "Dare You to Move" by SwitchFoot.
Maybe I could do Jesus is Just Alright.
I'd do pretty much every dcTalk song from their third album (Free at Last) onward. And pretty much every Relient K song except for a few songs on their demo record. Any number of songs by the Newboys, Audio Adrenaline, SwitchFoot, Thousand Foot Krutch, Skillet, tobymac, a few Dogwood songs, numberous other artists and of course FIVE IRON FRENZY! (may the band rest in peace)

Rocketman?I have a soft-spot for that song. . . don't know why.
Oh, and I'd also maybe sing a Floyd song. . . even though I'm a chick.
I love Pink Floyd! :gir:

I'm as 'wallflowery' as they come but for some reason I don't mind getting up and doing karaoke, as long as the only people in the audience are either my friends or people who don't know me at all (none of them 'casual acquaintances' or 'coworkers' types, it's no fun looking them in the eye after making a fool of myself)...My favourite karaoke experience, then, was singing Reba McIntyre's "Why haven't I heard from you" in this very, uhm, southern-esque bar - I'm not into country music but it just seemed so very...right =)
Someday I'd really enjoy belting out Come On Eileen, though, that song just makes me happy...
"It's the End of the World..." R.E.M. I know all they lyrics.
Cool! Along those lines, I could do an encore of Barenaked Ladies "One Week".

I have a soft-spot for that song. . . don't know why. If you ever get the chance, try to get your hands on Kate Bush singing Rocketman. I love the original, but for some reason, I love Kate's rendition even more.
As for what I'd sing, I don't know. Probably an old Ella Fitzgerald tune, but I doubt if there's any Ella tunes out for karaoke.

Definitely the theme from Shaft, by Isaac Hayes. I could also see myself doing a Stewie-style rendition of "Rocketman", or that Cats and the Cradle song that always makes people cry, because really only the chorus is sung.
I think getting me on a karoke stage would be similiar to Batman's musical number in the JLU episode "This Little Piggy"... bizarre and out-of-character, yet not entirely unpleasant.
Now I'm picturing you with long, teased blonde hair. eep! I saw them at the Boston Garden back in 9th or 10th grade.
That is awesome.
When I go to karaoke my friend and I always used to sing Mameshiba by Maaya Sakamoto. That's a great song. And Shima Uta (the non-crappy version, I can't remember which one that is). I also have a soft spot for Porno Graffiti's Hitori no Yoru (the second GTO opening). I'm also trying to teach myself more songs by The Boom because they're one of the only groups I've found so far with a baritone lead. In English I just sing whatever looks interesting.

I may have been more specifically referring to seeing GnR live, but that most definitely doesn't detract from how presumably awesome Mr. Pedro would look as a member in a hair band.
Heck, I think we'd all probably look better as members of hair bands. At least then we'd have a motif.

I'd sing something new...J-pop....or a Filipino song to please my family and friends.
Ryan Cabrera's single "True" is something I'd sing. Or Papa's Roach's "Getting Away With Murder".
Then....I've got no idea...I don't sing soo much karaoke nowadays.

I haven't seriously done karaoke since high school with my close pals. I mostly do so at home though.
My favorites to do include: Sinatra, Italian Folk songs, Elvis, Bonjovi, Scorpians, old skool rap, adding my own lyrics to Japanese songs, and whatever catches my fancy.

American Pie by Don McLean because that's my all-time favorite song.
And Karma Chameleon just because that old commercial was funny.
Anything else would just be a song I like. Normal, Christmas,...Disney.:p I think it's dangerous getting me on a karaoke mike.

I try to sing fight songs, rock songs. I have a few favorites. Oh yeah, I didn't mention, I do karoke on most Saturday nights.
My regular songs, I get about 3-5 in a night:
"It's My Life" by Bon Jovi, one of my worse
"We're Not Gonna Take It" by Twisted Sister, recently removed from playlist, grrr
"Bottom of a Bottle" by Smile Empty Soul, I always fit this into my routine, I just love saying 'I do it for the drugs'
"Detriot Rock City" by KISS, always gets the best reaction whether I nail it or bomb
"Eat the Rich" by Aerosmith, I'm always out of breath afterwards because I attempt to sing both parts of the chorus
"Pretty Fly for a White Guy" by Offspring, so much apathy from the audience during this one, I don't get it, it's gotta be funny to someone
"For Those About to Rock" by AC/DC, this is always for laughs since my high voice can only last about five seconds, I fail at this one miserably everytime
"Basket Case" by Green Day
Ironically, I try to sing these songs to sound tough so no one at the bar will mess with me or my friends, but one time I sang "Crash and Burn" by Savage Garden for a girl I liked and got picked on for the next two hours. Dang drunks. But since I always bring friends with me, it's always a blast. The DJ seems to like me, I look like a hippie sometimes, so one time he got me to go up and sing some Grateful Dead with him. Yeah, I couldn't compare. But I'm getting better.

We had to do kareoke as an initiation for the high school softball team as underclassman. Freshman year we didn't get to chose and I had to sing "Hit Me Baby One More Time" by Brittney Spears. Last year I sang "Get This Party Started" by Pink.
Other songs I'd sing:
"Losing my Religion" by R.E.M. - This is my all time favorite song.
"Breaking the Habit" or "In the End" by Linkin Park
"Show Me the Meaning of Being Lonely" by the Backstreet Boys - My favorite BSB song
"Bother" by Corey Taylor - My favorite song on the Spider-Man soundtrack
"Make It Last" by Stroke 9
"Gets it Faster" by Jimmy Eat World
Wild Goose

English Songs.... not many. Hmmm.
Supersonic - Mega NRG Man
Speedy Speed Boy - Marco Polo
Station to Station - Derreck Simmons
In thed En - Linkin Park
Crawling - Linkin Park
Figure. 09 - Linkin Park
Faint - Linkin Park
How Far to Paradise - Area 88 OVA Op. Theme.
The Race is Over - Dave Rodgers
See a trend? ^_^ My brother and I are LP fans.... though he's better at imitating Chester's chouting vocals, and I'm better at EMC.
Japanese:
Midnight Blue - Kissme Quick (Patlabor TV Ed. Theme 1)
Kimi Ga Iru - Galla
The Fourth Avenue Cafe - L'Arc~En~Ciel (RK ed. theme)
Heart of Sword~Yoake Mae - T.M. Revolution
Heaven's Door - Araiso Private High School Student Council Executive Comittee Op. Theme
Moment - Araiso Private High School Student Council Executive Comittee Ed. Theme
Blast My Desire - Move
Dogfight - Move
Tightrope - Gensoumaden Saiyuki 1st Ed. Theme.
Blooming Days - Takako Shirai
Alone - Shimokawa Mikuni
RTB - Yukikaze End Theme.
Well, that's pretty much it. For those who've heard Tightrope, it's a kinda grating, annoying tone to it... but it kinda grows on you. RTB is also a very nice song. ^_^

Uh.....
If I sounded really drunk, "Dancing Queen" by Abba.
Oh yeah...
"I Believe In A Thing Called Love"- The Darkness (I know, sung by a guy, but as a girl, I might sing the high notes. Or have my Chorus teacher drunk and have him sing it.
Can't think of anything else...so late.
Uh...
Ending Theme of "Gundam SEED"
Opening Theme of "Gatekeepers 21"
4th(?) Ending Theme of Inuyasha, "Every Heart"
2nd (?) Ending Theme of Inuyasha, "Fukai Morai"
"Simple and Clean" from "Kingdom Hearts"
So late...got to go to bed...I'll post more in the morning.

-Emmanuel:bosko:Ooh, I love "New York, New York"! :D :D *used to listen to it all the time*
But I think I would sing either…
"What’s New Pussycat" – Tom Jones
"Fly Me to the Moon" – Frank Sinatra
"Be Happy" – Some people from Dance Dance Revolution
"Walkie Talkie" – Also from DDR
"White Reflection" – Two-Mix
or….
"I’ve Got a Lovely Bunch of Coconuts" (though I don’t know who sings it)
Oh! Or I might sing "Larger than Life" by Backstreet Boys. And…. Yeah. ;)
Fwooooooosh!

I try to sing fight songs, rock songs. I have a few favorites. Oh yeah, I didn't mention, I do karoke on most Saturday nights.Sweet. I used to do karaoke more regularly. It's been way too long. You don't live near L.A., do you?
My regular songs, I get about 3-5 in a night:
"It's My Life" by Bon Jovi, one of my worse
"We're Not Gonna Take It" by Twisted Sister, recently removed from playlist, grrr
"Bottom of a Bottle" by Smile Empty Soul, I always fit this into my routine, I just love saying 'I do it for the drugs'

"Basket Case" by Green DayI tried "It's My Life." I also failed.:anime: I'd love to do "Eat the Rich," but I don't think I've seen it on a playlist. I just love the lyrics though ("Your attitudes may taste like sh__ but go real good with wine" stands out). I haven't seen good Offspring around either, 'cause I'd love to do just about anything off the Nitro album.
Whenever I can find it, I can really nail the Metallica version of Bob Seiger's "Turn the Page." Everytime I think of it, I long for a mike. "Another One Bites the Dust" and "House of the Rising Sun" are other crowd fav's.
Ironically, I try to sing these songs to sound tough so no one at the bar will mess with me or my friends, but one time I sang "Crash and Burn" by Savage Garden for a girl I liked and got picked on for the next two hours. Dang drunks.Dude, forget them. It's the girl your after, not the pathetic morons attatched to the bar. Chicks dig a good serenade. Hell, guys do too. Just imagine a girl who you didn't know liked you or that you were thinking of dating but weren't sure about singing something sexy while giving you the eye. And speaking of seeming macho, I obviously don't care too much because I've sung some girl vocal songs before. It's usually not a big deal if you don't act like it is. Then again, I don't know your hangout.
But since I always bring friends with me, it's always a blast. The DJ seems to like me, I look like a hippie sometimes, so one time he got me to go up and sing some Grateful Dead with him. Yeah, I couldn't compare. But I'm getting better.I should try and round up my friends to do it more. It really is more fun with more company. I think they call them KJ's btw.;)

Never done the Karaoke bar thing, but when I saw it in action it seemed kind of lame. Why would I want to hear someone I don't even know butcher a song?
Karaoke boxes can be fun with the right group of friends though. The challenge is to keep everyone involved so they don't spend all their time chatting or reading the catalog. I usually do hard rock numbers, but I'm pretty miserable at everything.
