View Full Version : NFL "Week 9" Talkback

This week Pennsylvania is once again a battleground state. Not with President George W. Bush and Senator John Kerry vying for its 21 Electoral Votes, but with the Eagles and the Steelers facing off in Pittsburgh. Last week Andy Reid's boys won by 5 points over the Ravens and Bill Cowher & company snapped the Patriots 21-game win streak 34-20. What will happen today at 1?
Atlanta, Green Bay, Jacksonville and Tennessee are sitting this one out and are set to dance with Tampa Bay, Minnesota, Detroit and Chicago in one week's time.

Well, first off, the Bengals busted the Cowboys!!!!!!! :D
Second, STEELERS RULE ONCE AGAIN!!!!! They beat the freak'n Eagles, man!!!!! :D
Third, I got tickets to the Bills game, was thiniking they would get killed by the formerly 6-1 jets, but man was I wrong. Bledsoe was strong in this game, and espescially McGahee, he one running back. Go Bills!!!! 11-5!!!! ;)

Nice to see the Redskins win a game for a change. But, why is it they have a better road record than home record?
But, did anyone catch those orange jerseys the Bengals were wearing? :ack: We should start calling them the Cincinnati Candy Corns! Those were hideous!

So after beating 2 of the best team in the NFL you expect them to start losing? Whit only 3 teams whit winning record on their schedule I would not count on that.

Breaking news that Dave Wannstedt resigns from his job as the Miami Dolphins head coach. "Resigns" lol. He knew he was going to be canned.
Also, if Steve Spurrier is hired as the coach at the end of the season Miami fans should riot.

I'm a lifelong Rams fan, from back in the L.A. days, so it wasn't a great football week for me.
And I'm also not a Steelers fan (they beat the Rams in a Superbowl), but I've gotta say, I think Pittsburgh is the real deal. Ben's gonna be quite a quarterback.

You know, I really thought the Rams would pull that game out, especially with the NE secondary beat up and playing on the Rams home race track. But then again Mike Martz is the head coach, and while the Rams can certainly win games with him at the helm I swear he costs them 2-3 games a year. Marshall Faulk averaged 5.5 yards per carry in that game and only rushed 12 times? I know that in the third quarter after NE opened up a lead and St. Louis needed to pass to get close the gap, but the fact Faulk continues to be under utilized is a crime in my book.
I know it is hard to part ways with a winning coach, but the Rams just aren't going to get it done under Martz. All that talent is going to waste in a division they should easily have a commanding lead in, even with Seattle's resurgence. Unbelievable.

NNNNNNOOOOOO!!!!!!
I can't believe the Eagles lost. *begins playing "taps" on the piano*. :crying:
Having said that, I'm glad the Ravens and Pats won, as they are my other favorite teams. Oh, and by the way, the Eagles will be back to their winning ways against the Skins next Monday.

The numbers bear it out: Faulk gets yards (on runs off scrimmage or pass receptions, whatever), the Rams win a lot more.
Plus, I'd love to see the Rams give some genuine attention to defense in their team building for a change. (And, sadly, I tend to agree with you that Martz is not likely to be the guy to spearhead that.) It's funny, I'm basically a "defense first" kind of guy as far as my philosophy of winning in sports, but none of the teams I've pulled for all my life in the "big three" sports -- the Rams, Red Sox & Lakers -- are known for their focus on defense.

Looks like the Vikings are having a replay of last season.
Lose to the Giants around Halloween time and then go into a tail spin.
I just can't see them winning at GB.
Those Orange jerseys of the Bengals were horrible.
Although I wish the Broncos would go back to their orange uniforms. Those were cool.
Nice that Drew Brees if finally having success.
Bettis can still bring it.
Lions suddenly can win on the road but not at home.

Don't know that I agree with you there. (Lifelong Vikings fan here.) Monday night was different in that the Vikes played well. I believe the difference in that game came down to home-field advantage. What I did NOT see was the erosion of any and all ability on the field like we saw last year. And you have to remember that the Vikes haven't had Moss the past few games. That being said, Minnesota tends to have Green Bay's number (even in Lambeau Field) and I have a lot of hope that this week won't be any different.
Trust me. :D

Nothing wrong whit that. But how long do they expact the defense to keep winnning game for them? Is the steeler play the pat, don`t that mean they will have to play them too?

How do you think they won the Super Bowl in 2000? Hell, once we get Ogden and Heap back, the Ravens will be back to full strength. (which should tell you a lot about our pathetic WR corp).

Believe me, I know -- that's the year my Rams had their one & only Superbowl win, so I remember the date well. :)

o.o I thought it was 1999...
I remember the Ravens missing Jamal Lewis in 2001 and beaten in the first round of the playoffs, missing the playoffs altogether in 2002, and then winning the division last year.

A lot has chance sense then. As great a defense is a team need a offens to survile. Just ask the 85 bears why they never won another superbowl.

The Ravens do have offense. It's names are Jamal Lewis and Jon Ogden.
And considering the Ravens haven't had any kind of decent passing offense since 1996 (Yes, even last year when Anthony Wright started)...
Seriously, the Ravens best reciever is Micheal Jackson, who transferred over here from the Browns way back when. If the Ravens actually got a couple of good WRs, Kyle Boller could actually be a good QB.
