I got tears in my eyes.
Seriously.
A song has just been brought to my attention through the means of some buddies of mine who have an underground radio station. Along with it, came the rest of the soon-to-be released CD, (that before I hear any criticisms on how I obtained it, I plan on buying several of these CD's just to spread em around) Encore.
The song is called "Little Toy Soldiers". Produced and performed by Marshall Mathers.
Guys, something big happened to this guy. I have never heard a rap song who's chorus filled me with just an overall feeling of joy. The song has to do with the battle of Ja Rule and Murder, Inc. vs Eminem and Aftermath. Before you roll your eyes and say, "Another one!?" hear me out. This is the finale.
He describes how it came to be, how he doesn't wanna do it anymore, whether he won or lose, he tells Ja "I'll be the bigger man and step aside if you'll stop your poppin'.", and he does it all in a tone of voice that just sounds like he's genuinely pouring his heart out.
But that's not all. There's a song for Haley, (of course) tellin her a life story of how him and Kim went through some rough times in life, not with each other. He has a song for Kim that has a Kanye West sounding beat also produced by Em, where he goes over every great thing about Kim and wonders how much longer this is gonna go on before they just realize how perfect they are for each other. He's got a song where he raps an entire 4-5 minutes parodying Triumph The Insult Comic Dog's "I keed, I keed."
It's hilarious and shows him makin fun of himself as well as Triumph.
I could go on, but I wanna wait till next Friday and hear what y'all think. It almost sounds as if he's systematically squashing all the altercations with people. He even has a line along the lines like "Believe it or not, I even thank my mother for raising me the way she did, cause it helped shape who I am." in a non-sarcastic tone.
If you're a fan of Eminem, or just rap in general, or if you think it's a joke that all Eminem does is talk about the same stuff....well, you're right. But this CD just has a completely different overall feel to it. As if he's done with all that after this.
So before anyone judges this next CD, please, "Little Toy Soldiers". If you're not hooked, that's cool. But give it a chance, this just passed "Temptations - Just My Imagination" as my favorite song of all time, and I just heard it 2 days ago.
What would y'all think about Eminem finally settling down and lettin' all the bad blood drain out as he did with Christina Aguilera? I know a lot of his best songs were "diss tracks", but this CD.....just wow.
Marshall has severely impressed me to the point where I can no longer use anything other than the name on his birth certifricate with his level of producing skills.
This CD would even get every mic in the Source if the Source knew what was good for em in their final days.....
Seriously.
